    That Fleetwood Brougham is a stunning example of these cars, holy crap that is beautiful! It is funny how different one of these feel compared to the Chevy Caprice, Buick Roadmaster or the Olds Custom Cruiser.
    The LT1 motor really lived these cars up compared to the TBI motors they had before, it is sad that they quit producing these in 96, they could have gone long into the 2000's.

      The 5 1/2" longer wheelbase, the 10" longer body and the extra sound deadening goes a long way towards a more luxurious ride.

    This is not a car, it's an automobile. I've ridden in this design and it's like riding on a cloud. America had lost something when they stopped making them like this. When the time comes, just make sure you give or sell it to someone with the means and intentions of preserving it. There's not many left.

    One of my all time favorite Cadillacs. When I was growing up in the sixties, Caddy's were all my parents would drive. I currently own a, 2019 Cadillac CT6-V BLACKWING. it's a fantastic car. Back to your Fleetwood. I worked for GM for 38 years. During a tour at GM's Warren Tech Center back in the eighties I would walk the grounds and go over to the complex where GM would do reliability testing. I saw this car about a year before it was introduced. They had a prototype on a platform that was shaking the hell out of the car. I said to myself, now that's an automobile. I agree that this was the last true Full Frame Full Size Cadillac. It looks the way a Cadillac should and drives like a Cadillac should. I'm so glad that GM finally put the LT-1 V8 in their full size cars. What a huge difference that made in the cars performance. I had one for a company car. I just loved it. My wife and I would just take impromptu road trips because it was such an amazing car on the highway. I also won a few stop light drag races. It surprised a lot of so called sport car owners. The color of your car really shows off it's lines. Its a keeper for sure. Thanks for the video. Cheers!!!

    • @TheMW2informer
      @TheMW2informer Год назад

      I bet that CT6 rides a lot better than even a perfect Fleetwood would. It’s also just as “full size” as the fleetwood.

    • @gsczr1
      @gsczr1 Год назад +1

      @@TheMW2informer, I don't think you can really compare the CT6 V with the Fleetwood. The CT6 V has an advantage in 20 + years of technology. The Magnetic Dampeners (developed by GM) give you your cake and eat it too. You can set the suspension from touring to track. The CT6 V also has 550 HP compared to 260 HP for the Fleetwood. Still the Fleetwood has a lot of character. To the old guard that grew up in the fifties and sixties the 96 Fleetwood was what a full size Cadillac should be. There is a You Tube channel called Throttle house. The hosts test drive performance cars. One of them races. They tested a CT6 V and the race car driver said that he couldn't help but compare the CT6 V to a BMW M4 instead of other full size European makes. He said the Caddy was the best handling full size car he had ever driven. People who grew up with full frame full size Cadillacs might find it difficult to relate to the newest Caddies. Besides (except for the CT4 & CT5) all Cadillacs are either Crossovers or SUV's now. How the world has changed. Cheers!!!

      I own a couple Roadmasters. Sedan and wagon. Best cars I ever owned. Reliable, comfortable, and total torquemonsters. I surprise cars at the light all the time. The funniest ones are mid 80's Camaros. I've never had one come close. I put Cooper Cobra Radial GT's on the sedan, as I could no longer get whitewalls in that size. Takes a bit of the old man smell off of it! Seriously the most comfortable hwy cruiser I have ever driven.

    Had a 95 non brougham with factory sunroof, no carriage top. Honest to God the best vehicle I've ever owned (I've personally owned 40 cars in my life, including a v12 Beemer, classics, newer lux imports), it just truly took the cake. Smooth ride, straight line acceleration, easy to work on (mostly), stone reliable (mostly) and in my opinion, great gas mileage for the size and performance (16-17 city, 25 highway). Anyone reading this that has the opportunity to acquire one, don't hesitate, just do it. Wish I never sold mine. Huge regret.

      Edit; the biggest difference between this drive train and the impala ss was the impala had a hotter rear end, which was offered as an option on the fleetwood, dubbed the towing package (back when they offered tow packages on sedans lol). You find one with this option, jump on it.

    • @MostlyBuicks
      @MostlyBuicks  Год назад +2

      Yes, I will tint the windows. I have had 1 1994, 1 1995 and this is my third 1996. My 1995 had the V4P option and even being a Brougham, it had the vinyl top delete option. If I had my way, no car would have a vinyl top. In my opinion they just add nothing to the lines and looks of a car. BTW one of my previous 1996s had the V4P option as well. The real plus on those is the more heavy duty transmission and higher cooling capacity. I can live without the 3:42 rear end ratio though. The 2:93 ratio gives enough "grunt". Heck, even my 1994 Roadmaster Limited with a 2:56 rear has plenty of grunt.

    Nice Caddy! I love my CTS4 with the luxury package. Yeah, it's a later one so it's downsized....but it's still a Caddy with all leather interior and every bell and whistle you could get. Many years ago a good friend of mine had a 75 Caddy with the 472 V8. Talk about a boat! You could park a modern day car in it's trunk! Back then gas was barely over a buck a gallon so it wasn't bad. Today that car would bankrupt you. It got about 8-10 mpg in town on a good day.

      I do not understand the horror stories about big cars in the 60s and 70s getting 10mpg. I have a video of a 1976 Sedan DeVille that got 12mpg around town and 16mpg on the freeway at 80mph. I have another video of a 1970 Electra that gets`14 town and 17 mpg on the highway. I have owned 83 cars in my life and I calculate every tankful. My late father had even more cars than I and he calculated every tankful. No guessing. We each have had plenty of land yachts. His 1970 Electra Limited got 18-19 mpg on the highway.

    Great 96 Fleetwood. Yes, it was the end of the line for Roadmaster, Caprice and Fleetwood, V8 rear drive full frame. Too bad, heck we even went thru another sad time in auto industry, the demise of V6 sedans! Honda killed off V6 Accord in 2018, Buick axed theirs in 2019 with VW, Chevy and Caddy Feb 2020 and Toyota recently announced Avalon being cancelled, so no more V6 Camrys either. I scooped up a last Gen V6 Impala in 2019 before they started cutting back on options for last 1/2 yr. Neat feature of your 96 is last year for glass headlights (I had a 96 Buick Ultra with glass headlights).

      GM introduced the 2 door hardtop in 1949 and discontinued that body style after 1972. They introduced the 4 door hard top in 1955 and discontinued that body style after 1976. Wouldn't it be fantastic if GM reintroduced these body styles the same time they brought back the convertible in 1982? Man I would LOVE a 1994 Buick Roadmaster Limited two door pillarless coupe without the door frames (two door hardtop). Yes, it is a lowdown dirty shame that sedans and coupes are falling by the wayside along with V8s and even V6s. They are opting for turbo-charged 4 cylinders. Then comes the electric cars that burn fuel oil, coal or natural gas remotely. Even though I have owned otherwise, I prefer V8 RWD American cars. And my first preference for body style is 2 door hardtop, followed by 4 door hardtop, then two door coupe, and lastly 4 door sedan. (Convertibles are simply for pleasure drives).

      I have had cars from the 50's, 60's, 70s. I totally skipped cars after 1976 through 1993. The late 70's and the 80's generally sucked when it comes to cars (great for music though). Even when new you just do not see these Fleetwoods in AZ. They tend to go to Chicago, Boston, New York and Dallas, and when owners retire to Florida. Here in AZ plenty of DeVilles, Sevilles and even Eldorados from the 90's though.

      Oh. I did not notice. Just went out and looked again. Both sides have been replaced. The associated parts (like the wind deflectors that attach to these extensions) do not have stickers. I guess the originals started cracking. Weird thing is Roadmaster's equivalent parts are made from a different kind of plastic that does not deteriorate so readily.

      Yeah all the other GM divisions have a great following. I had a 1963 Wildcat two door hardtop, loaded, buckets, A/C power windows etc. It was the Rose Mist Poly. I called it the Pink Panther. EVERYONE thought it was an Impala, Oldsmobile or even a Pontiac. Sure Chevys are popular because that is all most people could afford back in the day. Cadillacs are famous because of their top dog luxury reputation. Olds had the 442, Pontiac the GTO, but not until recently have people discovered the Buick GranSport. I will take a Buick over any of them, generally speaking.

    • @MostlyBuicks
      @MostlyBuicks  5 месяцев назад

      Mechanically speaking, very little problems I have encountered. The clips that hold on the lower trim break and mostly the rear quarter trim can fly off if they do. I guess some people have trouble with the rear most exhaust manifold bolts breaking. The knee bolster panel under the steering wheel tabs often break if you remove the panel. The fender apron extensions just behind the front bumper is made of very brittle plastic and are often cracked or missing completely. For some reason the Roadmasters have a better type of plastic there. The rub strips are impossible to find replacements for. Fortunately the 4 fender chrome spears that crinkle have aftermarket aluminum and stainless replacements to the tune of $400-$600 a set.

      Absolutely. Corvette has 4-bolt mains, aluminum heads, hotter cam, stronger valve sprints. 300 hp at 5000 RPM, 340 lbs-ft torque at 4000 RPM. Fleetwood, Roadmaster, Caprice has iron heads milder cam. 260 hp at 5000 RPM torque 335 lbs-ft at 2400 RPM and 330 lbs-ft at 3200 RPM--a nice flat torque curve to move that mass.
