- Planning to move their family to Florida, David and Sherie are desperate to sell their 1,200-square-foot, 1930s bungalow. But after six weeks, 37 viewings, and two agents, they still haven’t received a single offer. Nestled in an attractive, upscale neighborhood, the three-bedroom home features plenty of charm and period details...But with its bright orange bathroom, pink and black living room, cramped master bedroom, and dirty carpet, the dated property is completely unsellable.
In order to reveal the home’s potential, Sofie comes up with a complete design overhaul. And while Anthony and the team rip out carpets, neutralize the paint colors, and build custom cabinets and radiator covers, Sofie shows the couple how to prepare for a sale.

anthony is easily my favorite contractor on these types of shows
Faith Nelson I agree.
He is just the best. What a splendid guy.
No, I've seen him do some things that makes me question his expertise.
The only bright spot in this episode is Anthony.
@@cocokai9661 curious, what did he do?
This man moved to Florida for his wife. What a keeper.
This man moved from Canada to a warmer climate - he didn't have to love her that much.

Smh about the new colors. My mom was a real estate agent. When selling you go white, off white, light cream through the whole house. A blank slate to build on sells
Generally speaking, if a show is about fixing a house to sell it, the viewers would like to know if they sold it or we need to call this the Unanswerables.
The sample house sold at 92% of asking price. That means that seller had to take $40K less. Which means all the houses in that market are likely significantly overpriced.
Years ago, and I mean years and years ago, we rented a house for a short time with a bathroom that color. Every time I walked by it I had to do a double take because I thought the room was on fire.
😂
🤣😅😂
They should have cleaned up the basement fireplace.
I was thinking the same thing. A scrub brush, and some cleaner would’ve done wonders!
I am quite surprised with all the chatter about the importance of a light/ bright room that the master bedroom ended up with a chocolate colored wall! The cheap looking headboard is now part of the wall. Now buyers have to think about the effort needed to make the wall suit them.
I just get the feeling that this was just a redo for them all along.
The master bedroom looks like something from the original version of Trading Spaces.
@@tbjw1 I hate it when the designers paint a wall and then hang stuff on the wall, making marks on a pristine paint job. Unless the designer uses peel off hooks, the new homeowner will end up spackling the nail hole and trying to precisely match the paint. I was appalled that on "Trading Spaces" that the neighbors never prepped the walls before painting them. The neighbors would attack the walls with paint rollers without first spackling, priming or even washing the walls.
@@Orphen42O I agree; nice new paint job and you have to do work and repaint when the stuff put on the wall doesn't even accomplish much. It bothers me a lot.
I think the house is still too dark. But I do think it is a huge improvement.
Agreed the grey is too dark, a very light grey would have been better.
Wow! Those real estate agents were horrible! They told the home owners to just put up a sign about the hardwood floors?? Horrible.
Like the bathroom color and update. Other paint choices not like as well. I hope they got it sold and on to FL. Hope the mom's depression improves. God bless. Sofie did a good job.
Why did you not clean up the smoke on the basement fireplace? I also think the paint is still too dark.
HUGE EYE SORE
Why can't buyers just use their imagination? Because they don't have one. So you must stage the home for them.
Nor do they want to do all that work!
@@claires8735 Exactly. I've done a lot of house-hunting and when going into a place that was painted or wallpapered in bizarre colours all I could think was how much work needed to be done. These people could have been at least not too damned lazy to rip up those ugly dirty carpets instead of leaving the job for the new owners. Get off your fat butts and rip it up yourselves.
Houses are a big expense.Only buy what you really like because you will be stuck with it for some time.
Right? I only look at the bones and layout and condition of expensive things like roof/windows/furnace/plumbing/electrical etc. I don't even think about their furniture or paint colors. LOL Why would I? Their furniture leaves with them. You can easily paint. If the layout works and bathrooms are in decent shape, the rest can be fixed. Personally, I wouldn't want a beige, boring house that looks sterile and uninviting and that's how things are staged today. I wouldn't buy a flip either because if they've only owned it to flip it, they have a high mortgage and want the highest price. You want the one that needs just a little work that's been owned for 20 years but has the new roof and furnace because they have more room to bargain as it's essentially all profit for them if it's paid off or nearly so. People need to be wiser. LOL You WANT the worst house in the best neighborhood if it's structurally sound and the layout is good. Gimme the bright pink little girl's room, I can paint that and if no one else wants to buy it, you'll get a better deal!
If not updated, clean and clutter free it looks like major upkeep probably also not done/cared for. It's just the subtle message that most people will get.
Personally I don't like the new paint colors any more than the old colors. Too depressing and dark.
Yes, too dark, especially in the bathroom where there is only one tiny window. It's a gorgeous color, but not for that room.
I agree, I was surprised by the dark grey and that awful brown as well
@@slantos2668 and super dark brown-red curtains, blocking half of the light
They did a little segment about painting the quarter round to match the baseboard color but then apparently didn’t bother. In the dining room and living room the quarter round is stark white while the baseboards are cream.
Lmao. Ur right. Why the heck didn't they match the old baseboards or repaint the baseboards to match the new quarter round?! That's pretty sloppy work.
Why did they make "art" on the wall 16:00 out of the same material they used to make the radiator covers 14:00? Tacky!
I caught that too, I was thinking yeah that's classy it matches my radiator cover 🤣🤣
Sophie does that in Every house. I was told it saves them from having to buy copyright for real art, but to me, it looks cheap. The radiator covers were absolutely horrible, and nothing I'd borrow from.
The grey doesn’t add up
A lot of these episodes are missing the snarky voiceovers. Those are the best type.
I’ll never understand why people cover hardwood with carpet!!!
Maybe if they have young children who are still learning to walk/run or are still clumsy and falling a lot? I have a little guy and my home only has hardwood floors and I’d for sure trade that for carpets.. only temporarily though haha
@@alexvonp2872 You should get rugs!
@@alexvonp2872 rugs. When the kid dumps a gallon of milk on it because you're sick and she was going to "help with breakfast" - you can throw it out and start again.
@@alexvonp2872 Hardwood floors are actually very kind on your feet/falling kids. We've always had them, no drama at all. I wouldn't want my babies crawling around on filthy carpet, and it's ALWAYS filthy, however much you think you've vacuumed.
it's warmer. I grew up in hardwood rooms and was constantly cold, when my mum carpeted my bedroom it was instantly warmer.
The house was nice and neat. Just needed some updates which Anthony and Sophie and the team did a really good job.
Never in a million years would I pay that much for this house. Very low ceilings combined with large stones for a fire place just do not look good.
Colors are kind of strange. Definitely looks better w/o that carpet + pink wall unit. 👍
I thought they were too. But all those men and nobody helped the crew!!!
Ya but did she really have to say it should be on the side of the road?
Half a million for that tiny house? Ridiculous
Prices in some areas are ridiculously overpriced, a 1200sq. ft home for $500+K is insane.
@Unsellables, Sophie's voiceover track is missing in this video!
They should of cleaned the stone fireplace being dirty is a big turn off
This show seems to find a lot of entitled sellers who can’t see their house as a product in a market place
Most folks think their possessions are worth more money than they actually are. It's human nature.
@@dhoward5757 The very old joke is "That we didn't spend very much buying the house because we are so wise, and it sold at the top dollar even when all broken down because everyone else is stupid." Only it never happens that way. Instead a little comeuppance occurs: your house is not special or appealing unless you make it so. The great joke is that after doing what needs to be done most people could be fine just staying and not selling.
My neighbor years ago had such a dirty home that when my little boys played there with her son my children offered to vacuum the space where they were playing with hot wheels cars.
I wonder if it's real or actors/staged.
@@carylhalfwassen8555 long ago anytime I visited my sister, I had to dust then vacuum and mop the floors just so I would not end up in the ER. It was that dirty and dusty! I literally stuck a ruler in the dust in the shelf (the first time” ....a bit over 1/4 in.
I refused to use the toilet. Her husband was a gross filthy slob.
Canadian houses are high and small, and this loving of grey was a trend from years ago. So, this must be 10 to 12 years old.
I must admit I loved the orange bathroom, just as they do, but I totally get that it's a bold choice that's not for everyone.
Oranges of Autumn are my colors, so, yes, I, too, liked the bathroom. Just as accent not full bloom.
I really like the women seller, she’s positive and just wants to be in Florida!
I like her, too!
Until she finds out she has to take the husband and sons with her.
I couldn't help noticing that her decolletage was the focal point in several outfits. But that will fit right in, in Florida.
The woman has Seasonal Affective Disorder.
So it went from 80’s...to 70’s. 😆🤔 Sophie always talks about light and bright...and made the bedroom brown. The Mum will never get out of bed now.
Nah, Mum is just waiting on her share of the sale. She already has her implants and fake booth tan. The hubby and sons can get along fine by themselves. She wants a condo in the Keys just like 99 percent of the Yank runaways.
Blaming the people coming for not wanting to spend over 1/2 million for something they then need to work on!? They did not really want to sell it, then
honestly i liked the funky orange bathroom lmao
Such depressing colours that Sophie chose that I'm shocked, especially given she was bitching about browns/beige etc in previous episodes. The shower curtain looked cheap and nasty and she took out all of the storage so where could they put their clothes?
Typical sophie strips all character, storage and turns into cold, sterile. Brings her realtors to float her ugly color choices. They need to get a new designer for this show. Someone who understands"lived in", "character" aend not paint historical Wood. They're not buying the furniture.
Cathy Blackhall, I thought the white storage unit in that extremely small bedroom was a neat & tidy fix.
$549k for that bungalow?! What.
I like the bathroom makeover.
She uses the same brown lamp in every staged home-wish I knew where it came from, it’s gorgeous.
The one is the family room in the basement? This is an older show so it may not be available, but I had really good luck googling contemporary espresso brown cone lamp.
Below is an example. Similar at walmart and lamps plus.

That front door looked like it would benefit from a fresh light colour.
Why do people totally ignore their realtor's advice?
No money, lazy, delusional, etc. However, I'm always cognizant of the fact that the realtors (seller's and buyer's) both want a quick sale for any price, high or low. They don't care about anything else so they will have you doing all kinds of things that may not even be necessary in your market. They will also try to get you to low-ball your asking price as much as possible to get a quick sale. The seller's representative is not really on the side of the seller.
I honestly don't understand why anyone would ever cover up hardwood floors with carpet. I don't have allergies but I still hate carpet
Some ammonia and a brush would have cleaned the rock fireplace surround up a bit.
That orange bathroom was a nightmare.
Not impressed with this episode.
Honestly I’m digging the retro vibe of the living dining room
Horrid wall color - grey, like a cave especially with all the black furniture that was already there. Made the house look darker and colder than it was before. I was hoping they would paint the brown wall in the master bedroom also as she usually apposes dark colors to suit a broader population but it was left in this case and added just as dark curtains to match it? Ew. I would not leave that paint color in my bedroom no matter how nice the other decor is. The basement looked the nicest of anything done to this house.
Not impressed with all the nasty comments about the homeowners. This show is about real estate.
I was really surprised (in a bad way) reading the comments. How very hateful they are, bitter and full of projections. :(
Still looks dated
That grey is super depressing, the dark brown is also too grim in the bedroom, grey bathroom, a kill me color, too cave like. She said it needs to be brightened up, but did the opposite. Trend colors prove that trends are too specific and not neutral
I have no lies to tell about carpet at the moment.... OH HOW I MISS THE SOFTNESS BENEATH MY TIRED FEET LOL ! I'm so SOOO sick of hardwood... chasing my spider monkey 2 year old all over this house on this hardwood really reminds me I'm getting old as my feet ache my 3 pm lol
What a great family. The house looks amazing. Hope they get 💰 💰 💰
What the heck is that bedsheet doing draped over the new radiator cover!?
I think its draped over the old faux marble 80's sideboard they had there. If you look at the before and after it seems they couldn't move it!
Ok but like...I would TOTALLY buy the pink, black and orange abomination XD
Good episode. Thank you for uploading.
The basement could have been better
I'd love to see Anthony's house.
I 💕 Anthony.
I would have painted the stone fireplace white.
I would paint the exterior light gray with white trim.
Wow....that house could be in my neighborhood......not for over a half million though!😂😂😂
I love it. It's so amazing.
I can't believe I'm still watching this show. Professionals painting quarter rounds while neglecting the existing baseboards. They so obviously do NOT match.
Why is the voice over missing?
I have noticed on several Season 2 episodes there is no voice over, just a long, awkward segment of neighborhood shots and interior shots. It's strangely off-putting.
Yikes, the meanest comments thread I've seen on these episodes. No need to attack the family for their looks, the show is about the HOUSE.
It would have been great if the days were added, the make-over timeline.
great family!
Great attitude!
I believe that sticking to white and clean colors always show best. I don't like grey walls as I feel they are too somber. In looking at million dollar houses of my clients...WHITE is King among the colors! They have wood floors, ornate columns where there are columns. My client with the most outstanding gorgeous home I have ever been in, 3.5 million dollar home....white throughout with some pale colors but no GREY. They have all wood floors in the two levels and unfortunately in my mind, white carpet upstairs on their third level but wood floors in the main master bedroom. They have another house on their property and a nice studio above their garage. Their grounds look like something you would pay to see! The landscaping this couple actually does themselves...filled with flowers and specific trees....sweeping grassy areas...of course their home is on over 3 acres of waterfront property. They have persian carpets and the most gorgeous antiques I have ever seen which look epic in their estate.
Let's see how awkward we can make these ppl look.
Not very dynamic agents
All that black furniture would give me depression. And that orange bathroom would trigger my migraines!
Agree with the black furniture giving us depression.
I get migraines too and I loved the orange bathroom. I don't think it would give me a migraine. Maybe because there is no natural light.
It's so strange that migraines affect everyone differently. They are horrible, but interesting.
Mine were helped considerably with drinking more water than a whale, not eating anything healthy like almonds, soybeans, dried fruit, cheeses, olives. Also had the worst in a while migraine from a banana that was a little too ripe. Also from eating too unhealthy, processed food, too much sodium, etc.
Also, I've had a few ocular migraines. Those are kinda cool comparatively.
@@djawnsjhilson218 there is nothing cool about my migraines. Pain like the devil corkscrewing my brain and endless vomiting. Had to go to the emergency room before Christmas because it went on for 12 hours, and not only was I in helpless misery, I was dehydrated. The sweet relief of the anti nausea drug in the iv drip they gave me, followed by the sumatriptan injection were cool beyond belief, though.
they went from pink to purple or mauve...good grief
The pink was painted grey. No purple or mauve at the end.
Why would you have a living room in a basement in a country which is naturally dark for quite a few months a year?
Also she could get a light box
It’s not the North Pole. Detroit is just across the border. Probably most Canadian houses have a basement and use it for a family room, they make great movie rooms too.
Also basements are great for kids, young and old. Somewhere to play or hangout and doesn’t have to always be immaculate.
Those real estate agents are full of it. They aren't motivated! They are phoney baloney. Fake faces. They want fast money and if it doesn't happen they die down! Lousy agents! They are not cut out to be in this career. Make excuses, haughty, self seeking! Beware of agents like this! On the opposite end, this family is absolutely lovely!
Agree with some of these comments. The new colors seem much too dark and I was waiting for the fireplace to be cleaned or whitewashed!
Someone who can paint without getting it on their clothes. Wish I could do that.
Were they able to sell it?
Four guys and a lady all sharing a single bathroom? That could be depressing.
That couple could sell the big white bed to an international student, I think they'd help salvage the furniture.
Her depression is caused by that house! 😂😂 Step out of the 80’s sis. You’ll feel better!!
SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) is a very real thing. Many, many people (including myself) go into a depressive state during fall and winter. But nothing is without reason, it is “hermit” time, after all. You can get yourself out of it. Takes work! But you can. ❤️
They didn’t update the thermostat???
All very valid points - but in which decade does the presenter live?
I realize this was a different time, but I would have gone lighter with the paint. Give me off white walls to market a house every time. If there is not enough color, get pillows
The price is for the LAND. The lot must be pretty small as every Toronto developer who snaps up these East York bungalows have intention to tear it down and build a bigger home that will sell for a million plus. If this home at this price were in Leaside it would have sold on the first day.
Awesome!!!!
Heaps of voice over missing from parts of this episode
I wonder if they had a new video editor for this episode, the transitions seem to be too long and makes the episode kinda akward.
So ,many kids have allergy problems, because they are over protected. No immune system. Let them get dirty, play in the mud etc. Build the immune system...
I played in the mud all of my life, never had allergies or dust until wall to wall carpet. It’s getting ripped out this weekend.
I don’t like gray at all so that would stop me from buying..something lighter would look so much better..I can see why the wife was depressed in that house!
Kinda rude to tell them a piece of furniture they like in their house should be on the side of the road.
I didn't like the huge artichoke painting or the bedroom furniture in the comparable house.
Did anyone examine the outside of the home? Too much clutter IMO and what about that chimney? It looks to me like it needs repointing and due to the smoke on the fireplace downstairs it needs a creosol cleaning desperately. The bedrooms need to be bedrooms, the bathroom a bathroom not an orange and almost all the furniture removed. Also hell yes the home is dark. Another family that saves electric by using the lowest watt bulbs. They need to invest in full spectrum bulbs in every lamp, remove any window film if there is any, expand the curtains to outside of the windows to expose all the window not just some. I cannot understand why the mom hasn't started medical care to help with the sad until they move, a whole lot of vitamin D3 is needed INMO. So hang on to this for future ideas because even a day late 0r a couple of years is better than no real hard evidence and the many other suggestions made by all the others wise folks.
Some of these episodes are a bummer.. the voiceover is gone so we miss the details. I used to watch this on HGTV and there was always the voiceover.
Is it just my browser or are all the voiceovers missing from this episode?
You can tell the home owner likes to colour coordinate...her tan matches the bathroom
She suffers from SAD. I'm sure she's been told to use a tanning bed for relief (though I think that's a bad idea). It's not nice to make fun of someone. Her SAD is fixable (as is her skin color), but your nastiness will probably stay with you forever.
@@cocokai9661 I’m sure the bright bathroom was partially motivated by her SAD... maybe she spent time in the bath there with all the lights on, getting some light.
This is a serious question. How does a Canadian family just decide that they are going to "up and move" to Florida?
John Labus - I thought so too
John Labus - ...unless they're not actually Canadian🤔 We weren't able to hear their description (voiceover not working) so perhaps we missed a detail
I suspect they aren't originally from Canada.

This show was broadcast over a decade ago. Even today, half a million dollars would buy a McMansion in my area. Real estate prices in the Toronto area have always been notoriously high. I do not know how people there can afford to buy a home. Are salaries proportionately higher there?
