Honestly the part of this update that makes me the most bummed is the Breach enchantment. I had previously told my friends that something similar would be a cool modification to bane of arthropods, because arthropods all have exoskeletons and armor is very similar. This would both provide counterplay to problems with armor being too powerful in exchange for giving up sharpness, while also making bane of arthropods actually worth using.
Still probably gonna be a fun update tho

dude, this is literally what minecraft needs to make combat actually good again. that idea is really good, combat becomes more open and not dominated if you have prot 4, arthropods gets a (much needed) buff, and its actually a choice you have to make as opposed to "just put these broken enchants on and you're good forever" kinda like whether you put mending or Infinity on your bow, on one hand you have infinite durability (with exp farm) but limited arrows, the other, unlimited arrows but limited durability, forcing you to repair at anvils. enchantments should be more like that decision than just spam broken enchants
they just made breach incompatible with sharpness, density, bane of arthopods, and smite, so i guess you got part of your wish.

I fell like protection five armor is going to be added at this rate
Ignoring the bot infestation you got in the replies,
Protection adds about 5% damage absorption which can stack.
Full Protection 1 armor gives 20% absorption and Full Protection 4 armor - 80%.
Full Protection 5 armor just absorbs all damage that doesn't skip the armor. Kinda the same thing with Resistance status effect.

I actually really like the new mace update because maxed netherite pvp is either melee for 30 minutes straight - or crystals/minecarts which not many people enjoy, so it’s good to see something to combat the busted armor

Honestly, i prefer the "make everything overpowered" route. It means you feel stronger by the end. What they should do is make make really difficult endgame challenges that require overpowered stuff.

You're right, but the with way mojang intends you to play the game items being overpowered doesn't even matter that much.
Yeah, the biggest proponent of nerfing items is the PVP community (and those RUclipsrs that want to make money off of them). It’s always odd when they complain about a very specific aspect of multiplayer and then want to nerf it for the entire community rather than just make a movement to remove them from their own servers.

The only best way to nerf without complaints is by making a few counters. For example they could add a rapier that ignores x amount of defense but ok damage and an enchantment like thrust to ignore x amount more. And shields could counter this with the enchantment thickness to ignore the armor reduction. And to counter the thickness shield you could make a double sided war axe or hammer to temporarily prevent blocking with a long switch time. What I’m saying is that weapons should be counter able by as many weapons or gimmicks as possible

I feel like the best way to do this would be to add some kind of advanced enchantment system, where you need special “rituals” or something to advance an enchantment further.
The elytra is a good example...
