Mosquito bits works very well. I add some into my 5 gallon buckets I have outside for collecting rain water. Nice feeding Ann, I like your indoor tomato plant. Maybe the tomato pieces can grow in your ANC bin
My ANC are in worm jail in the vermibag lol. I should try in the other bin.🪱😃👍🏼
Good to see you're getting on top of your pest issues and it's not detrimental to the worms at all.
It's winter here and all my bins are outdoors so everything is just crawling along. We only get the occasional light frost so the worms are fine.
Cheers!
Do you have issues with critters getting in and eating the worms? My area gets very cold so I only chance one outside bin. 😊👍🏼🪱
@@PlantObsessed Nope. Only the possums eating my lettuce! Grrr.
Pretty amazing how well the mosquito bits work against the fruit flies & gnats!! Fun quick update Ann!!!🪱🪱🪱
Yep, lots to do in the summer.😁🪱👍🏼
Yay! Break out the bubbly... so great to hear that your flying insect issues have vanished 👍🏻
Yes thank God. it was bad. I'm going to continue to use the BTI for at least another month just in case. 🪱👍🏼😁
Good idea... to play it safe 👍🏻
Thanks for sharing! Love the gnat traps!
They work great. 👍🏼🪱😁
Hi Ann, I believe the BTI stay active only so long in the water - don't know if it diminishes after days or a couple weeks. I know AV had some BTI water that he thought expired in effectiveness after about a month. I guess that means the worms get newish cardboard shred if fungus gnats are a problem. So glad you got yours under control!
~ Sandra
I made mine fresh the day before. I'm hoping it still works. 😁🪱👍🏼
Interesting how well those mosquito bits work.
It's very hot here so I'm adding ice 🧊 cubes to the bins on the porch.
90's F is 😰
It has been in the upper 90s here this week too. My peppers are loving it. The basement with the worms is about 80.👍🏼🙂🪱
The Vermibag seems to me a long process with minimal results with your ANC ? Try and a mix and match of different worms to see if you get a different result as far as production , casting quality , and compatibility goes? Just a thought.😊
The ANC have to stay in the bag. I try and keep them separate so I can show people how different worms behave. Blue is the only multi species bin. So far.
I use huge flower pots as mini composters all over the garden. Emptying one out today, I was finding HUGE worms. Six inches long and as wide as a pencil. Reddish on top but more beige on the belly and extremely iridescent. Any ideas what they might be?! Western Washington
Wow, with all the iridescent I would think ANC but it might be a local worm type due to the pale belly. 👍🏼🪱🙂
I have red wrigglers. I've noticed a few gnats in my bin and i have thought about using mosquito bits to help, but I plan to use the worm castings for my vegetable garden and my concern is that the bacteria from the mosquito bits would have a harmful effect on my veggies, which we eventually plan to eat. What are your thoughts on this?
According to the package it is not harmful to humans. I might not use the castings on flowers that butterfly visit. I have heard that it can hurt them. I use a different type of BT for my cabbage to prevent the most larvae from eating them. Maybe there is a benefit to using the casting on brassicas? 😃🪱👍🏼
@@PlantObsessed thank you!
Hello! I loved your microscopic camera video. So cool.
Just wanted to share a great “worminar “ on RUclips- NutriSoil featuring soil scientist Nicole Masters. It’s wonderful if you like nerding out on worms and worm compost. There’s a brief but deep dive into the microbiology of worm castings that I need to watch again.
I will check it out. Thank you.😁🪱👍🏼
