    notes for self:
    1. not all of the passages have same level of difficulty.. so at first try to answer a good proportion of the questions with high accuracy taking more time than necessary. skip and save the harder ones for last. For the hard ones take educated guesses for the remaining ones.
    2. for answering questions: 1st look at the passage; is it thick and chunky, or is it hard to digest... SKIP IT. 2nd go through the passages 3rd. if you wanna do questions, look at the questions so you know what to look for in the passage. Especially important for the comprehension questions. After you know what the question is asking then go through the passage properly at this point.
    DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF Skimming for keywords -> you are likely to not absorb anything. INSTEAD: read each paragraph and summarise each paragraph in your head.
    3. its fine to spend more than a minute on the first question of the passage.
    4. try to retain the information the moment you read it. try to recall the passages once you read. and for subsequent questions try to answer the question without looking at the passage to help see if you retained the info

  • @shinekim7517

    Summary :)
    Strategy
    1. Try to answer 32/44 questions with a high degree of accuracy. Skip difficult questions by looking at the passage and seeing if it is chunky and complicated
    2. Look at question (hard -> skip).
    3. Reread question and answer options for better understanding
    4. Read passage with intention
    - Summarise each paragraph in head after reading
    - Watch out for qualifiers (eg. except/false)
    - Try to retain as much of the passage as possible
    - Pick answer and move on (no need to check all answers)
    Tips
    1. Relax before starting
    2. Learn to retain information
    - Start practice by reading at a slower pace with higher accuracy and retention
    - Reduce time while keeping high accuracy
    3. Decrease reading time
    - start reading from second or third word
    - reduce sub vocalisation
    4. Read paragraph, cover with hand, recall paragraph
    5. Do only first question of a set with passage, complete the rest without referring to passage

    I've been told to take everything literal. I have one question about that: if in the passage says, for example, "SOME students do something", and the question says "THE students do something", should I assume it's false, because it's just some of the students that do that, and not all of them, or would it be more appropriate to choose "cannot say", since I don't know anything else about the other students?

      same , when's ur test

    • @EmilEddy
      @EmilEddy  2 года назад +15

      I've said this in a few comments, but the main thing is to set out with the intention to remember the passage that you're reading. If it takes you slightly longer to read the passage, don't worry about that, because the improvement to your accuracy is far more important. Ways to improve doing this is to look, cover and practice summarising a practice passage on a piece of paper. Outside of the UCAT, try reading as much as possible and get comfortable with holding your concentration while reading.

  • @user-qg4td6rg5x

    3:00 great but how can you tell if the passage should be skipped or not.

    • @EmilEddy
      @EmilEddy  Год назад +3

      pretty much exactly what i said. Does the question look easy or hard? If it's something like author's opinion, I skip the passage almost immediately. Is the passage something you're interested in? If it is, don't skip it. If it isn't and it's a particularly long one - skip it. In general, it's a good rule of thumb to always skip the first passage as well - it gets you in the right mindset

    just wondering, if you are reading the question before the passage is that just the first question or all 4 questions?

    • @kipplest172
      @kipplest172 Год назад

      Just for the first question in the set of 4 linked to each passage. The idea is ypu either remember the info or where to go in the passage to get the answer fpr the other 3 questions in the set.
      Once you move to the next question, you repeat the same process. Read the question then read the text for meaning and remembering, answer the first question, then answer the next 3 for the same passage by remembering info or knowing where to look in passage for the answer.

      Yes. There is a 5 minute "break" between each subtest. UK Clinical Aptitude Test - it tests applicants abilities for different types of things, allowig a University to see what you excel at, what you may struggle with, and map these against their own wants within medical students.
      E.G. The programme I applied under is an Indigenous one. They don't use the UCAT at all to decide places, however, if they did, the last sub-test would never be considered, as within our culture such social situations would be handled very differently, so doesn't apply.
