I think you're really onto something here Dave. A few leading teachers start to recognise that rhythm is more important than harmony but that there is almost no educational material.
Good video! I need more “transcription simplification” in my life tbh; it’s easy to simply avoid transcription because it’s too overwhelming when you feel you gotta “do it all!”
I love it that as an alto player I can connect with your approach. So many educators out there are tenorman. Now, to me that’s a different ‘sounds set’ . . . I play tenor too.
This is a breath of fresh air, I play guitar and get more from the first half of your vid than all the over done pentatonic/2-5-1/modal landslide out there. I have been doing this in my playing but actually didn't realise, til now, what I was doing. Thanks,
It's the way I learn impro. Usually at work I repeat a chosen rhythm the whole day from memory. Later at practice I apply starting by the roots of a progression and so on
What an excellent video, Dave! I’m really digging these major 9 sounds. Gotta love iii chords. I’ve noticed this rhythmic quoting happening in my own playing recently. I’ll certainly be using the rhythm that you demonstrated today, as well remaining attentive to new rhythmic ideas going forward. Cheers.

Notes are ALWAYS secondary to tone/time/rhythm/phrasing/articulation/etc

Thanks! I agree 100%
Great video Dave - rhythm is the backbone of music! It's something I never tend to think about actively while improvising. Definitely trying this out!
Yooo 1000%!
The moment you said efficient you touched me, great video !
That’s what i’m all about when it comes to practicing!
