  • Here’s a compilation of raw footage I shot while fly-fishing for Coho salmon at Point No Point, WA. over six different days in August and September 2024. For the most part, there’s no commentary - just sea, sky and some fish! (I cheated a little with the Orca near the end: I filmed that while fishing in the same spot in August 2022).

      Dan, I've built some good memories there too; not only fishing, but 30+ years of taking our dogs and children there, plus fantastic birding and wildlife-watching. Nearby Foulweather Bluff is also a favorite spot, I'm sure you know it well!

    The Killer Whale at the end was a nice treat! Great stuff Timothy! That Coho that broke you off was huge. My biggest is 15 lbs but with gear and in a boat at Tasu Sound, Haida Gwaai BC. 2004.

      @@rodneysmith9447 I doubt this was anywhere near the size of yours! Regardless, it had me completely beat: I still have a blood blister at the base of my thumbnail where it got clobbered by my reel handle when the fish woke up and took off.

    Wow Tim, nice compilation and great success this year. What flies were you using? Kind of looked like pink clousers or some kind of variation?

      @@dowmer3093 For nearly all of those fish, I was using Richard Stoll’s Clouser Special. It is yet another Clouser variant, but with some nice change-ups in the materials. I put a tying tutorial in my previous video. The fly has worked like magic for me this year.

    Thanks Tim. About how casts per fish landed?

    • @timothybird7008
      @timothybird7008  16 дней назад +1

      Hey, I can answer that! I keep a fishing log, so I know how exactly long I fish, and how many fish I catch. I can calculate my casting rate from watching a ton of video footage. Over the period of the video (which doesn't show all the fish I caught), I fished a total of 21.75hrs. In that time I caught 21 fish (including shakers). Ten casts takes me, on average 6.42 minutes, i.e. 93 casts per hour. So, in total I made 2,022 casts. That's approximately 96 casts per fish!

    Tim forgot to ask what flies worked the best for you and are you using an intermediate sink tip?

    • @timothybird7008
      @timothybird7008  17 дней назад

      Kevin, I am mostly using a full intermediate line, just occasionally switching to a floating line. Almost all these fish were hooked/caught on a Clouser variant called the 'Coho Special". I put a detailed description and recipe for that fly in my previous video. Fluorescent pink/light purple is the most productive color.

    ever try buzzbombs and spinners? how they work.

    • @timothybird7008
      @timothybird7008  13 часов назад

      @@rattusrodney For years, before I took up fly-fishing, I threw buzz bombs, blue fox spinners, and rotators. They all work great but I prefer the challenge of catching with a fly. Sometimes still, when I really want to fish but it’s too windy to use the fly rod, I’ll hit the beach with a buzz bomb or rotator.

    Hey Tim, I’m a local angler that reached out to you awhile back. You sent me your Gmail and I misplaced it. Would you be down to kind to send again. I’d love to offer you a local fishing opportunity. Thanks and keep up the great posts.
