  • St Andrews has over 150 societies and dozens of sports to join! In this video we talk a bit about some and our experiences with them. Together we cover an extensive range of societies from horse riding, to acting, to symphony orchestra, to languages and charities/volunteering.

    I’m attending St. Andrews in the fall and your videos have been so helpful, I love them! I had a quick question about membership fees, do you pay once a semester or are they monthly/per event?

    • @justkiki3091
      @justkiki3091  4 года назад +1

      that's awesome to hear! it really depends on the society - for example for Music you have to pay the full year but for things like Gym Membership and Horse Riding you can choose to pay for only one semester should you so wish. hope that helps! x kiki

    Hey this has nothing to do with the video however do you know of someone who missed their offer to St. Andrews but was still let in ?
    Thanks a lot

      hey sam! yeah actually! that's what happened to me - I needed AAA and I got AAB, missing my A by one mark, so St Andrews decided they still wanted me and here I am! i think it does depend on the person though, hope that helped x kiki

    Out of curiosity, how many societies would you say is the limit to join? I’m starting in September and kind of planning everything well in advance haha

    • @justkiki3091
      @justkiki3091  4 года назад +2

      it really depends - for example, some people join societies like Japanese Soc and Persian Soc for the food events (because you get discounts as a member) so there's no commitment involved. but things like Sports, Music, Drama, and Dance take up a significant portion of time, especially if you want to compete. prioritise studies over societies but try to do as much as you can! hope that helped x kiki

      @@justkiki3091 so how many sport like ones is the limit for most people

    • @justkiki3091
      @justkiki3091  4 года назад +1

      @@josephdowey1302 not sure! Usually people only do one sport, but if you’re really sporty I’m sure you can do loads! They do take up time tho so make sure you can make the commitment (maybe even check with the sports soc)

    Did you horse ride before going St. Andrews? I was wondering what its like for beginners, I know they offer lessons but does the riding club get many beginners? Or would you feel quite judged going there as one? Thanks for the helpful video btw :)

      S B hi! So i used to ride but I hadn’t ridden in 8 years so it was like having to re-learn everything so don’t worry at all! They get a lot of beginners and everyone learns really quickly! I jumped in my first lesson back to riding so it’s really awesome and the instructors are great!

    Hi, i love all these videos they’re so helpful and really useful! I was just wondering if you’d be able to do a video on essay writing at St. Andrews and how best to do it? Thanks x

      Would be nice to know once I’ve got the hang of it hehe, but all jokes aside I think over summer that would be a great idea thank you for suggesting it! I think for English and History they each are quite different in their approach but also it really depends on your tutor as well and their style. Will definitely look more in depth at planning a video x Kiki

      hi! i know that IR is very competitive and there is quite a lot of reading - between 2-5 articles a week and further reading if you have coursework and primary sources, but i know they all really enjoy it and i would definitely recommend it, if IR is something you are passionate about x

    Hi Guys! Absolutely love your videos. Just wanted to ask what the LGBT+ scene is like at St. Andrews? :)

    • @justkiki3091
      @justkiki3091  4 года назад +1

      Owen Peak hi!! There’s a huge community here! And there are numerous events that take place throughout the year that celebrate the lgbtq+ community. We have drag shows and glitterball (which is a truly sensational night). Here’s a link to the different societies and clubs at uni: www.yourunion.net/activities/societies/societiesa-z/ x Kiki

    Hiya, love your videos just wondering how much is riding per session. And like what’s the average it costs to join a society?? 🤗

    • @justkiki3091
      @justkiki3091  4 года назад

      There are two places to do riding: Edenside and Drumcarrow! Edenside is £18 per lesson and Drumcarrow is £35 I believe because of the horses you ride and the training centre itself. For horse riding it costs £34 for full year membership and £19 for a semester (I think don’t quote me on it!) but societies like Persian Soc costs £3 for full year membership

    Just wondering what the Christian Union is like? Thanks! :)

    • @justkiki3091
      @justkiki3091  4 года назад +4

      Hello! St Andrew's Christian Union is a really thriving and engaging part of the Christian community here. All of the main churches are represented in the union's community and so it is a real melting pot of different forms of Christian faith in St Andrews. Weekly talks are put on, events happen throughout the terms and of course biscuits and tea are a large part of all of this haha! If you have any specific questions regarding the Christian union however please don't hesitate to get in touch here or through social media with me and I am more than happy to talk you through it all! Tom :)
