It's how the world is, my ancestors (the hopi) known it was gonna turn out this way. The world is out of balance and is soon coming to a purification for all
Well, even if they’re not really that funny anymore, the one good thing about the more recent seasons of The Simpsons is that they seem to feel more freedom to make extended references to very niche subjects like Koyaanisqatsi here. I guess that’s a luxury of the show being an uncancel-able institution at this point.
Sometimes it's really clear when a whole bit happens just because someone thought up an excellent gag for a title but then the execution of the rest of it doesn't quite live up to it.
Not really. I'm not really a Glass fan but the music he wrote for Koyaanisqatsi had an ominousness that's really absent here. There's more to minimalism than just repetition.

to be perfectly honest, when someone says this I think "pretentious twat". I bet your favorite band is something no one has heard of either right? I enjoyed the film, probably didnt take what most people take from it but its not a film in the general sense of the word really. Like a music video might as well be a film then...just a shorter one etc. So to class it as one of your favorites...... Its like saying "Whats your favorite band?" "Oh, its the band that did the soundtrack for the gladiator movie" .....................................ok..................................
At the very least, I'm impressed at how the animators were able to emulate the effect of time lapse. The Simpsons is still probably like the last bastion of western 2d animation now. The other adult cartoons and new 2d kids cartoons dont even try.
“The other adult cartoons and new 2d kids cartoons don’t even try.” Yeah you wouldn’t know that since you’ve confined yourself to only “Western animation”. But why?
@@jsuisdetrop Why are you making that assumption not even based on anything I said? Yeah, I watch anime. I've watched and loved more anime than all the western animation I've ever seen combined. But I was specifically talking about Western animation. That's why I referred to it like that instead of just saying "animation" without any caveat. There's been an uptick in western animated series these days, but the ones not made for kids are all full of edgy ultraviolence and other crap... so you either can watch that or fluffy kids stuff with safety corners, two extreme sides and hardly anything in between. But also, anime isn't as good as it used to be either, especially anime made for kids. Digimon, Monster Ranchers, Sailor Moon, Tekkaman Blade (Teknoman) all blew my mind as a kid. These days not only do English speaking kids not get even 10% of the amount of anime I used to get, but what they do get is not as good, and it's not even as good in Japan. Even the new version of some of those old shows aren't as good. All my favorite anime not made for kids are mostly from the 90s and 2000s also.
@@VEE0034 Yeah, western 2D animation has recently seen a sudden boom in a new kind of western animation - incredibly violent adult cartoons instead of just cartoons with either humour or adult humour. There's nothing to spoof about Koyaanisqatsi. It's a depressingly accurate prognosis of our future. This however is funny. Love the high-brow, low-brow switch at the end.

It's like The Simpsons is actually trying to create the worst parodies it can possibly make. Everything from the writing, to the voices, to the animation has gone shit.

Why the fuck does an animated sitcom reference an arthouse film about the nature of humanity? Is it supposed to be comical or deep? Or is it just a reference for the sake of paying homage? Not only it doesn't make any sense, but also 95% of the target audience won't even understand what is being referenced.
And I understand that the Simpsons are all about references to popculture and the modern world, but is Koyaanisqatsi really a part of the former? The latter obviously not, as this episode was created some two to three decades after Koyaanisqatsi was released, so it wasn't hot and new at the time of this reference. Ugh, too much analyzing. I might lose my head like Scratchy.
Why would you even bother watching any Simpsons? Just to look down your nose at an audience you're sure doesn't get the reference ? Could be a good many Simpson lovers "get it", which doesn't matter as it can stand on its own. Enough snobbery. And Bite Me.
Sorry, in Australia "arthouse" was an independent theatre , running out of an old cinema in a gentrified neighbourhood. They specialised in showing alternative movies. They have all now shut down and been converted to apartment blocks.
Yeah 'arthouse" was pretentious film snobs but could be an interesting alternative to Spielberg/Lucas etc. I saw movies like 'Mystery Train" and "Clerks" in arthouse. I kind of miss them. I will have to check out I Am Curious. It might be funny to see a bad movie.
Veo Que Estás Gastando Tu Tiempo Para Leer Mi Completa e Innecesariamente Largo Nombre De Usuario The original is the best film to instigate independent thought . The cartoon was hillaryous aswell as your user name lol

*Yeah, but Itchy!!*
Simpsons writers: *(Sees Koyaanisqastsi Name Pun)* well I mean we just Gotta find a way to put that in the episode.
It is less odd when you consider that the simpsons usually liked to reference semi-obscure media like this one.
