Newtons Axe - The Conserved Momentum Experiment V2

- When i built my original newtons axe the viewers were split into 3, some loved it, some hated it and some felt that i should have put the balls in the shaft, which was a strange thought however i thought it was worth trying.

Now that was better than expected, but how could i improve it?
Don’t forget to follow me on social media.
Add flames. Flames make everything 325% cooler.
Propane bottle right at the knob of the handle, nozzle exiting above the eye and facing forward.
(I am clearly joking: that would mess up the current mechanism. Or am I?!)
just a suggestion do avoid the warping: to weld thin pipes without is nearly impossible. I work in a Lab, and when i have to bend hoses, i put quartz sand into it before using a torch. The heat will be spread to all parts equally. Maybe you put an steel rod into the handle or even try to fill it with quarz sand. I´m a great fan of your work, have a nice day.
@@kegelschneckenmett2026 regular salt works basically the same as Quartz sand, but it's infinitely cheaper... you just need to make it anhydrous first by baking at 350-400-ish for a couple of hours. MUCH better option outside of a lab with a lab budget.
@@stevealford230 Melting point of salt is round about 780 (if I remember it correctly) and the q.sand has the double of it. Idk how hot a Welding seam with the included counter part could be. But your answer is a good one and you´re right salt is cheaper than quarz.
@@kegelschneckenmett2026 idk about C, but it melts around 1475F... I used to put it in my forge to know when to quench certain steels. I didn't even consider it melting when you lay the bead, lol... I was only remembering using it to bend pipe and tube at low red to black and ambient temps.
I love the design you can try instead of ball bearing use a piece of steel shaft maybe it gives more kick to it and maybe lower the sound when hitting something
Yes! Bevel the ends slightly for less resistance and put a small hole though the piston for the air to pass through when it moves back and forth through the handle.
+ one to this
Plus he can make comments about putting a shaft in a shaft etc
Ever heard of punctuation? Something kids learn to use, yet you somehow can't.
Or just ya know... Sand
@@ToxicMrSmith not heavy enough. lead shot would be preferable. lead or steel shot is used in dead blow hammers
What you make is awesome but you are what makes these videos great.
He takes a nearly uncomfortable amount of joy in his work and it's a treat to watch
Your videos are amazing! Special thanks to you for not putting useless music in the background and allowing us to enjoy technical ASMR😁
Awesome thing to see first thing this morning. Thanks for the great content.
I have to say, even if it didnt work, the design is different & unique. It has this weird quality of almost looking like it was almost a single piece of metal.
As usual, an excellent design, instead of all bearings either a titanium or leaded bar so it’s just one solid sliding weight
Tungsten.
Titanium and lead are on two different spectrums of “solid weight”
Titanium is too light
Onur,
Besides the noise it makes i think it turned out good. Thank you for taking time to build, film, edit and post this video.
Great build. Happy to see a new video every time.
This man oozes sensuality
though this did work as an ax
unfortunetly the last one did better
the purpose of a deadblow/newtons law tool. isn't to put extra force behind the tool
its to stop the tool from bouncing back at the user.
this one you could literally see the tool still bouncing at the end of some of these strikes
very pretty build but mechanically its basically just a rattling ax that wants to fly out of your hand at the end of every swing
I agree. Tthis seemed like a fail to me.
I completely agree. It's just a beautiful but noisy axe that wants to jump out of your hands, nothing more. The old designs worked much better. I don't know why everyone else in the comments thinks it worked.
I'm unsure if he realizes that Newton's Cradle and Dead Blow are the same thing here. Four months ago, he created a version with pipes and balls in the head of the axe called Newton's Axe, the V1 of this video. Seven months ago, he made another version where he put two cavities in the axe head filled with BBs and named it the Dead Blow Recoiless axe. It's the same effect presented in two different ways, and the BBs are much quieter than the balls. If you add a rubber lining in the cavities, the BB design will be almost silent. As you said, Newton's cradle doesn't create any force amplification.
The intial part of the swing (from vertical) will be of a lighter headed axe but the impact will be of a heavier headed axe.
A different purpose altogether. I still prefer the last one.
Awesome axe build. Great video bro
The outside of your head sounds remarkably similar to the inside of my head. I’m subbing to keep up to date on this goofiness.
Cheers dude, new video every 2 weeks, ive just uploaded a new one Saturday
Excellent as always my friend
I love watching your videos. You are a trip and you make bad ass things.
Liking it, looks factory made, I mean that as a compliment
great video and fantastic safety glasses 🤣
Gotta say I love the commentary throughout
It has to do with 2 properties: Newtons 1st law: 'an object in motion remains in motion at constant speed and in a straight line' and the principle of centralized force. Basically, the beads start at your grip as you swing the axe down, giving you the velocity of swinging just the axe head without the weight of the beads slowing you down. now that its in motion the beads move toward the head but the force applied is still downward (centralized force) and the further they travel the faster they go, adding to the force and velocity at the axe head. By the time you reach impact, the beads are adding their entire applied force and their velocity downward, while not requiring extra effort to swing it. It like swinging a 5 lb hammer, and having someone swing another 5lb hammer onto the back of your hammer. The literal opposite of a deadblow.
Even managed to get a Chuckle Brothers reference in. Well played 😂
7:35 😂😂 I have a hand axe with a pipe handle I welded about 7 years ago. I didn't put balls in the shaft though, and I smashed the shaft to index the cut.
Nice - thank you for this
Thanks for the video.
Jolly good mate!
Ayyy it's good to see DP back as a Regular Guest!
I love the V2! But I'll admit the first version looked way harder! Good work though! Keep it up!
Poor wood! Nice clean work Deadpool.
Looks great 👍
You’ll have to do some Wolverine claws to celebrate the new Deadpool & Wolverine movie coming out. It’s going to be epic.
That is a badass axe!
I got nothing productive to add, Onur. That turned out great!
There's nothing I like more for my axe handle than a leather sticker 😂
Early Bobby Duke Arts energy. Would enjoy a collab between you two.
Put a honking big spiked D guard on the next one! :D I love your channel man!
Dude you are crazy .... i like it
Looks wicked mate, only thing I'd improve is to put spacers/gaskets between the balls to take out some of the extra noise, you could probably use foam exercise mats to cut them out of, just a thought. Alternatively, if you used steel or brass stock to make cylindrical weights that'd probably work just as well and be less noisy overall with the gaskets.
Try combining the two. That way you have the additional force going forward and also the kinetic augmentation in the head. The results might surprise you.
improve it you have your own shop friend spectacular
Good job mister well done
I'd like to see you combine both versions to make V3.
Sweet !!🇺🇸🇺🇸🪓🔪👍👍
You're a wacky fellow, quite enjoyable.
Nice Work 👍👍👍
a cylinder inside the tube would work better than simply balls no? since it will better use of the volume than a sphere, and the center of mass will be more towards the top of the tube when you swing
If you switch the big bearings with hundreds of little bearings, it would sound super cool.
Different concept
It's gorgeous, but then, we know if you made it, it will be. LOL. My brain is still a bit fuzzy from being out at the bar last night, so the physics of it is still rattling around. It does sort of make sense to an extent though and is very intriguing.
My like sent it from 999 to 1k. Making my like, the best like.
Could you coat the ball bearings with a coating like flex seal to make it quieter? I know it would make the circumference a bit larger so it might not work with that handle.
Make the handle 2 feet longer, and use BBs/lead shot. It'd be a wrecker for sure.
Brilliant
Love your sarcasm 😂😂😂
What if you did some sort if spring powered variant? The pole axe the you thrust downward you could use maybe a gas powered one instead spring?
Another great video. I thought this idea for an axe worked really well. I thought the weights in the handle would force the axe forward. But we all saw that it worked fantastic. Nothing like watching your video with coffee on a Saturday morning. Makes for an epic start. Cheers mate 🍻, for another brilliant video. 💪
As someone who chops wood recently frequently, I think an adaption of this idea, geared instead of towards a deadblow type design, but rather towards shifting the center of mass, because as I'm sure anyone who uses an axe properly knows, you have to slide one hand up the shaft to lift after reach strike, and slide it down as you swing to give it power, the reason of course being to be the most energy efficient with weight, but what if you made a chopping axe with a shifting center of mass so when you pick it up normally, it's near the bottom, so it's easier to lift it with your hands already mostly prepped to swing, and then as you swing it down, the momentum + angle shifts all of the weight to the head, thus increasing the power of the blow massively
Thats what I expected this video to be, and it's kind of done that, but I'd like to see a purpose built axe for this job
That’s exactly the purpose of this, conserved momentum, it’s not deadblow it’s just an idea i had and Ive built different versions
@@DiesInEveryFilm gotcha, well it's cool, I look forwards to seeing future versions
Try graphite lubing the inside and running a tungsten rod wrapped in lead. The real trick is making it all lever just right for your height, arm, swing style. When it’s right? Wood will explode kinda effortlessly.
Also, a two part shaft handle… one part is the piston for the swing and the other is just the handle….
Interesting!
Mad as a sack of jelly spanners……
You should build a kinetic sword. Think an Oakeshot X or XIa but where the fuller is, you have the tube containing the BBs.
A kinetic warhammer would also be pretty sweet.
He already did a kinetic sword a month ago.
Thanks for the video.
Which one do you think worked better?
What is the blackening spray? Ive used cold blue but that is on another level!
Чувак, твои работы безумны и восхитительны....
great.
maybe some kind of bearing, and tungsten weights
Makes me wonder how it would throw, or maybe something Newton style more suited for throwing? Even if its for shits and giggles would be worth playing around with even if it throws like shit
do you throw casually? or do you throw WATL or IATF? i've been throwing axes for four years and worked at an axe throwing bar for two and a half. idk what sort of chaos would ensue during the throw, and it depends on your throwing style. if you throw handle vertical the weight transfer could have erratic results on the rotation rate. if you throw handle horizontal or anti-vertical then the balls would be at the end and it would be just like throwing a really heavy headed axe.
I'm a casual thrower and I suck at it lol just curious how such an axe would behave when being thrown or if it would throw fairly normal and just bite deep into the target. Do still need to build my wood target so I can get some more practice in, maybe then I'll be able to hit a target
I don't know if you have ever seen it. But a game called killing floor 2 has a shotgun head hammer.:D
Yeahhh!
Same style axe, but add a mechanical lever activated splitter in the head, The levers are activated by the force of the axe moving downward and when striking the wood the levers activate. Explosive wood splitting. Combining both designs, how big of a stump could you split with that!
So... just do a knockoff copy of the Splitmaster/EasyGo/Chopper 1?
Do you feel better now? Such an unnecessary comment. I've not heard of those brands? Channels? I don't know. Don't give a fuck, is the design I'm referring to already in existence? Yes! Most things are, do they involve a dead blow ball bearing in the shaft of the axe? Unlikely. Combine them both as per my comment, sure, I'd like to see that. Now kindly, wind your neck in. @@stevealford230
Hmm Was Newton on to something...
Looks at Fallout's Rocket Sledge... Is that future Newton? LOL ;P
Damn why did I not know you can spray cold bluing?
I’m a bit late to the comment section altho I wanted to pitch this idea.
What if you curved the pipe near the end so the ball would swerve in the direction of the axe head?
Not strictly relevant to this axe but as a general idea to consider: do you remember that battle bot programme, there was one called hynodisc (or something like that), that principle of storing energy on/within a flywheel, do that. No idea how that would work in practice (stabby spear thing?), but i reckon you'd make make a fair fist of it. Fisting.
It needs to squeal like a pig when it operates.
I'll leave it with you.
A Spam opener with balls.
The only advantage i see is that its easier to lift the axe since the weight can be close to ur hand insted of on the head constantly but its also weaker than a normal axe as the center of gravity when the balls are up high is lower than a normal axe
Give qnd take situatione better for people with weak forearms but its a weaker axe
Fill it with smaller bearings 😉👍
I commented on this video on the first Newton's Axe video because this one for some reason hadn't shown up on my phone yet. But I hope you get to check it out. Thanks! Have a great day!
is this method work on spear too?
the balls are stored in the shaft
I fear for this men's mental health ×-×
Next do a newton hammer.
bravoo
I dunno why, but you remind me of an oblate Father I knew when I went to catechism. His beard was black tho
I just don’t think it actually does anything. Like how does a similar weight axe perform compared to this.
Magisters' Terrace
Tungsten bawls.
nice this was exactly what i was thinking when i saw ya do it the first time. great job mate!!!!
Instead of steel balls try some kinda water an oil mix maybe, i dunno?... beautiful axe nonetheless.
10 min of watching him play with balls and shaft got me ax-ited
Why welding a cut tube over another tube?
Newton's throwing knife
Okay. This is a ridiculous suggestion. If the balls flew up the handle, then were forced towards the rear of the head by a curved 90° turn, they would impart a pushing force on the axe head, towards the front of the axe. To go completely insane, give the balls a path straight forward after that, to let their momentum drive it in deeper. Though at that point, it might be better to let them return through the original path, to help pull it out if it would have gotten stuck.
You should have a crack at kratos' axe the leviathan 😊
7:30 gun blue spray??
doing a metal handle is kinda stupid. all the vibration straight to the hands.
What did he use to make the axe look black?
looks like some kind of coldblueing liquid
👏👏👏👏👏💪😎👍
.......Newton's battle axe?....😂
tf is wrong with you good Sir? Love it, hehe
But what if it was curved?
What if?
Will you sell these?
now do the same thing with a shaft full of mercury... pretty please
