    What other pros or cons of the IONIQ 5 did we miss? Feel free to add yours below!
    I didn't mention the lack of native AA/Carplay wireless, but we bought a dongle that fixed it in the first month and never thought much about it again. At worst, it means we lose the USB port but this is an inexpensive way to fix that one.

    Wow Steve...very timely review - Thank you!
    I had my Kona EV in for service yesterday and lo and behold the dealer had their Ioniq5 demo for sale! 2022 Ultimate (Limited in USA) AWD for sale - 9000km on the clock...we are picking it up this morning at 10AM 😅😅😅
    Our trusty Kona is going to a new home with 49,000km+ on the clock...
    You are right we are going to miss the efficiency a lot but the added space and better charge speed is going to help with all the trips we do!
    Just have to cancel our EV6 order now!
    Cheers and thanks again for the video!

      Excellent news, congrats Mike! I know several former Bolters who recently moved to the Ioniq 5, so I imagine the jump from the Kona Electric will be a similar experience. Miss a few things from the previous model but appreciate a lot of the big strides made with the EGMP platform. Can't wait to hear how you feel about that first long trip and the difference in charging!

      @@plugandplayEVwell 3 weeks and 3200km into the Ioniq5 and it gets better by the day!
      We are loving this car...our big trip this fall will take us to Las Vegas, then California, up the coastal highway then to Vancouver Island and back across Canada to home. Looks like about 10,000 - 12,000km all in. Wife retires in early October and we plan on leaving Oct 20, should be home by end of November. Really looking forward to the trip!
      The day after we picked up the Ioniq5 up we did a 650km lunch trip, hit an Electrify Canada charger, went from 22% to 80% in about 16 minutes. Big difference from the Kona EV.
      Anyway...thankyou for doing the videos and providing all the excellent content!

      My wife retires Oct 6 and we are gone on the 21st of October! We are going to cover a big section of Route 66 from Tulsa through to California!
      The I5 is an absolute fantastic car and we are super excited about the trip!

    Thanks for the thorough review. I’ve had an EV6 AWD GT-Line for just over a month and also came from a Bolt so there are definitely a lot of similarities with your experience. We’ve done two day trips so far of about 240 miles each on a mix of freeway and local roads with some congestion and have been getting ~3.5m/kWh for a range of ~260 miles. I love the adaptive cruise control and HDA for increased safety though it made my wife nervous at first because it wouldn’t start slowing down as soon as the brake lights came on in front of us. I agree the automatic lane change is a bit ponderous and it’s slow to switch the turn signal off after completing the move, but I feel like the car sees things I might miss so it’s probably safer. Occasionally, in tight traffic I’ll make the lane change myself when the car refuses to do it. The smoother ride, quieter cabin and extra space have also been nice. My biggest negative compared to the Bolt is the car doesn’t lock itself when I walk away. At least it notifies me 10-15 minutes later than I’ve left the doors unlocked so I can lock it remotely. Hope they add that option soon.

    • @plugandplayEV
      @plugandplayEV  Год назад +1

      Good point, I know that lack of auto-lock is a common complaint from IONIQ 5 owners as well. I've always been in the habit of double-tap fob locking so that I can hear the car beep and have a mental confirmation that I locked the door, so it's less of a recurring theme for me. But when we do leave it, the endless reminders that it's unlocked do seem a bit odd... just give me a setting to auto lock on walk away, or not, rather than telling me all I need to do is tap to confirm locking every time.

    WOW it's been already 1 year! Congrats. In Connecticut, I keep seeing ioniq5s and EV 6s here lately ...and a slight up tick in bolts too ... but the amount of the Teslas ... they have exploded over here... all those factories are pumping with production finally!

    • @plugandplayEV
      @plugandplayEV  Год назад

      It really is, the Model Y especially is around every corner here. Used to be the Model X and S more than the Y, but it's always been Teslas and Bolts in our area. Great to see more diversity though, with Mach E, ID.4, and IONIQ 5 all showing up in greater numbers. Not so many EV6 as yet, so we're always excited when we see one!

      @plugandplayEV  Год назад +1

      @jbwaterman Thanks! The Kia was also on our list. As you mentioned, the space was a clincher as the Hyundai is designed to be that bit more open and airy, which was better for our kids. But I do look at the EV6 design and sometimes think the sleek look would be attractive too! Glad you're digging the car.

    Steve: Have 10000 miles om my Limited AWD. Do not have a garage so car stays outside at all times. I do mostly local driving with some highway driving at 50 to 60 mph. On the most recent charge cycle I am getting 4.4 miles/kwhr. In fact, as long as the outside temp does not go below 60 degrees, I see at least 4 miles/kwhr. I agree with your review, excellent car, amazing that a new design can get every aspect so right along with excellent build quality.

      Glad it's a common feeling, thanks for the feedback! After we returned our Bolt, the Ioniq 5 took up all of the local driving and we started to see similar numbers to you once spring arrived. 4.3 mi/kWh is about the best we've got over any extended stretch below 50mph, but it was a big improvement over our sub 2.5 mi/kWh winter numbers on the highway!

    Thanks for the review. I find the I5 to be one of the most striking and attractive EV's on the road these days. I thought about the I6 since it was rated for better efficiency. It should be putting up better numbers than the M3 RWD, but I still don't see anyone actually getting that better efficiency in their testing so I decided to pass on the I6.
    That fast charging speed would be fantastic with eGMP cars. I see that the I5 is getting software updates so it seems like the car is getting better.
    My focus is more to the efficiency side of things so I decided to get the Bolt and so far I am loving it. Only downside so far has been the slow charging when on road trips. I don't do that often enough to matter too much and if I am in a hurry I can take the ICEV if I need to. So I am pretty happy with the Bolt so far.

    • @plugandplayEV
      @plugandplayEV  Год назад +1

      The Bolt covers so many drive scenarios effectively that it's hard to justify spending more, unless you need the extra space or road trip a lot. Even then, it packs a lot in with the rear seats down and leisurely trips work well with the good range. I still always smile when we see one out and about.

    • @Longsnowsm
      @Longsnowsm 8 месяцев назад

      @@plugandplayEV Well I am experiencing my first winter with the Bolt and it is a challenge. The Bolt range drop is significant, and with no real preconditioning ability the charging speed is really rough in the winter if I need to DCFC. Winter road trips are not a treat in the Bolt. Charge times are really bad. I didn't think that I would be road tripping enough for it to matter. I am now thinking I was wrong in the context of winter and having to road trip.
      A 20 minute stop sounds like a dream now! I now think it is important to make sure my next EV to have the heat pump, preconditioning, and good charging times. It is more important than I thought it would be. Watching these I5 and I6 videos and the fast charging makes me envious.

      Thank you! They started out slow here in Greater Boston last year but really have taken off this year. Seeing a lot more on roads near us (also EV6, to a lesser extent), probably due to Hyundai slashing lease prices and baking the $7500 federal credit into those deals.

    Hoping for a refresh over little things like rear wiper, usb-c and minor usability system improvements as seen in the ioniq 6. But seen some used ioniq5 at 29k so still a good value. maybe this US charging inlet transition will further decrease the price.

    • @plugandplayEV

      I expect that will be the case, as production has definitely ramped and competition is increasing as Tesla drops prices. With incentives changing as well, the market is completely flipped on its head from when we bought in early 2022.

    I bought my 2022 SEL in January 2022 near my hometown in Milford Connecticut with no MSRP markup and full federal income tax credit. Budget wise, I really couldn’t justify spending more than $45,200 Net. I just went over 36,000 miles and it reminds me of being a little kid and going to Disneyland…… Every single day is awesome. My trip odometer says 3.9 mi./kWh and I always leave it in eco-mode and I typically drive 65 miles an hour on the highway, I do it for efficiency but I also do it for my wife who doesn’t like going 75 miles an hour on the interstate. Unfortunately I don’t get battery preconditioning or heating or even warming and I guess I never will…….(do you think there ever will be a software update or a hardware fix for me and we rear wheel drive I5 owners who bought prior to production runs of July 2022?)… So I don’t even use the navigation because my wife likes Waze and I like Steve Jobs’ version.
    I am sure that Hyundai will update their navigation and that should keep getting better and better.
    Thank you for the very thorough video !!!!!!!

      Thanks for the perspective. We were on the fence about SEL vs. Limited as well, because SEL would have qualified for Mass. $2500 off, in addition to the lower price point. In the end, we figured we'd be using this car for long trips with kids in the back, so the Limited's Vision roof won out. Haven't regretted it but $5,000+ in savings is never a bad call, either!

    Got my 2022 Ioniq 5 SE about the same time you bought yours. Very happy with the car but have only been on a few trips. Mostly charge at home with level 2 charging. Did have trouble with stopping during charging but have not had any issues since reducing the charging level.
    For some reason the IRS has not released my tax return with my EV refund. I’m 67 years old and have never had an issue with any tax return. When I contact them they just said they are very busy.
    In your video you included charging at a Tesla Supercharger. Has the issue with Ioniq 5 and Tesla charging been resolved? I know several Ioniq 5 owners tried to charge in Brewster, CT without success.
    I’ve only had one software update (first one) and will probably go to the dealer in August to get the software updated again.

      Re. Tesla Magic Dock sessions, I've had a 40% success rate across five locations. Brewster, NY was actually one of the successes, along with Batavia further north, but three others failed repeatedly. The rumor was that Tesla intended to release a software update during Q2 '23 to ensure all Ioniq models could charge without issues, but we haven't been back to test since then. Hoping to get an opportunity this month and will post a video if Magic Dock works across previous problem locations, such as Fredonia, NY and Verona, NY. Stay tuned for that one!

    13:30 I thought you didn't get access to the app since you purchased it in Massachusetts. Or is that only an issue with Kia and the Kia Connect app?
    19:00 Driver assistance features are what I find to be the major shortcoming in my EV6. The worst is active steering (Lane Follow Assist) which can and will drop control without any warning. You just have to look at the tiny green steering wheel icon to see if it has control. The radar for smart cruise control can also only see 250 meters in front of you, which is only about 7 seconds when driving 75-80 MPH (120-130 km/h) here in the West. I do have only HDA 1 but I doubt the front radar distance is significantly different in HDA 2 cars. I'm planning on installing a Comma 3 later this summer once I save up 2 grand.
    20:00 Yes, I would like a 90 to 100 kWh battery pack, especially for me here in the rural West. A 200 mile range is really nothing here in the West compared to back East and in a lot of places there are only significant towns every 80-100 miles. Combine that with faster highway speeds here and a more limited charging infrastructure means that road tripping can be somewhat difficult. A larger battery would increase the 75 MPH highway range to around 220-250 miles.
    25:05 Lol, are other E-GMP cars really competitors? I'd say more like sibling choices.

    • @plugandplayEV
      @plugandplayEV  Год назад +1

      Odd, I've never heard of not getting access to Hyundai Bluelink, in Mass or elsewhere. Must be a Kia thing?
      We've had very few drops on HDA2 system but it does occasionally get caught out by shifting lane markings. I usually take back control when we enter those kind of zones anyway, so I perhaps wouldn't notice as much. A Comma system would be really interesting, but can't justify the expense when I'm fine with HDA2 and my wife loves it already!
      Re. E-GMP brethren, I know a couple of folks who moved on from the IONIQ 5 to the GV60 or one of the newer "Electrified" models. I guess they were competing on luxury and features, rather than platform specs, but the Genesis pricing isn't so much higher that they don't compete... at least according to my tiny and entirely unscientific sample!

      @plugandplayEV  11 месяцев назад

      Great to hear, thanks Jeff. I'd say the next 10-20K should be fairly uneventful for you, other than tire rotations and any recalls/updates that need to happen at the dealership. I've been in twice for the latter, but got routine maintenance/rotations at the same time so it was efficient.
      A bigger one to look out for is the low conductivity coolant change at around 40,000 miles. That's important for pack heating/cooling and could run $300-$600, depending on the dealership.

    Sorry didn't watch the full vid but have you had the Eco mode fixed? we get 3.8 miles/kWh on our Ioniq 5 SEL (smaller wheels) on long highway drives. That gives us about 290 miles on a full charge! I don't know if it's the Eco fix that has helped us but the TSB changed Eco from unusable to a great driving mode. We've been really happy with range, do Boston to beyond Bath in Main 170 miles typically using 57% of the battery. (In the summer)

    • @plugandplayEV
      @plugandplayEV  Год назад

      Yes! Got that figured out with a service visit back in spring and it's been usable again since then. We're out in the flatter Midwest now and getting 3.3 mi/kWh at 75mph, so I expect there's an influence of our most regular routes on the efficiency numbers. We do a lot of regional drives through the Berkshires, Pocono, and Allegheny Mountains. That plus the extra weight and wheel size of the Limited probably accounts for the difference compared to SE/SEL.

    Have you had any level 2 charging issues like some Have complained about?

    • @plugandplayEV
      @plugandplayEV  Год назад +1

      Not until last week! But I was testing the overheating issue with a friend, so it was intentional. The maximum L2 charging power we've had access to prior to testing it at 48A is 40A, which has never generated enough heat to trip the safeguards. Seems like limiting the AC charging to 90% is a simple fix, which still gives you ~10kW of power but isn't likely to cut the session off in regular climates.
