When it comes to Anime, and some Godzilla movies, i prefer dub. Because I don’t want to miss any of the great visuals. For Minus one, everyone needs to watch it in Sub.
One thing I will say after watching the dub is I was able to pick up a very small detail that I missed when I was watching it in the theaters with the subtitles. After Godzilla goes on that rampage where he destroys Ginza, and you can hear a news reporter on the radio narrating what had happened, he mentions that some of Godzilla’s skin had peeled off and had been recovered. Wonder how that might tie into things in the future.
You’re right. I have a strong sense it’s going to lead to something in the future. After the movie was out, Godzilla-fest in Japan took place. A fan had asked the director if Noriko had radiation sickness and he said no. She is infected by Godzilla’s cells. Which could also explain how she survived the blast. His cells probably helped her regenerate. The fact they recovered some of his skin is interesting. I hope they tie everything together and i’m sure they will. They seemed to have planted many seeds.
The dub wasnt too bad, the only major issue was the main characters scream. I felt that it lacked the raw emotion of the Japanese actor. 8/10 for a dub
It definitely didn’t have the emotional range in the spoken words. I agree
Why would you even need to dub a scream? It needs no translation.
Whay not dub Godzilla's roar as well?
@@ungmd21 my only guess is voice consistency
You should listen to that scene in Spanish. It's very funny.
Hope the physical release isn’t too far behind.
Yeah, I have a problem reading subtitles, because I always have to pause and read
Your Godzilla minus one videos are awesome 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks, Danny! I was very excited to watch it when it came to Netflix dubbed. I will re-watch it with subtitles.
I knew another Minus One video was coming. I think this is probably Geekdom's tenth video haha
It is an excellent dub.
Wasn’t a fan. Also there were many unnecessary changes and the subtitles are for the English dub. I’ve seen the movie 6 times in theaters so I know almost all the sub lines. Very disappointed
I agree, felt underwhelming.
Honestly I don't care if dubs exist but I hate when they make the subtitles the dialogue from the dubs. It's so damn lazy
@@Ash_Wen-li YES. I hope the home release will have a better sub
This is one of the best English dubs Godzilla has ever gotten. Maybe even the best.
Fun fact, the old Jackie Chan movies used to use the same dub companies as Godzilla. If you watch police story and the heisei Godzilla movies you can hear it
I was hoping to hear “we need a bigger boat” in the English dub
You can’t compare live action dubs to anime dubs
Im a sub watcher but i can understand the reasons why people would prefer the dub especially with what you spoke about in the video.
All and all to me, the dubbing was fine and couldve been better.
I can finally watch Oppenheimer and Godzilla Minus One back to back
Maybe best monster movies in decades
I won't watch a movie reading subtitles.
I was actually very impressed with the syncing. Growing up only having dubbed Goji VHS tapes, it was always funny seeing the lines continue after the mouth would stop. But they really did a great job with this.
A lot of emotion was lost in the English dub. They even dubbed Shikishima's scream which was comical, not emotional. Why couldn't the original actors do the English dub (phonetically if needed) Most of the voices don't seem to match well with the actors.
I'm actually really glad that they didn't use the people they normally use. In live action especially it's kind of jarring listening to a dub with the same dude you've heard in 80 different anime
How is it hard to read subtitles???? Personally I never even realize I’m actually reading. I can understand if you’re blind other than that then you need to start reading more or something it’s not that hard.
Geekdom, were you able to see the movie with the dub in Spanish? I saw it today and i thought it was great. The only thing I didn't like was, like you mentioned in the English dub, the scream of shikishima is a bit bad. Also when he goes to the hospital to see Noriko, the emotion parts in Spanish were kind of bad too.
My 8 year old granddaughter had no trouble reading the subs. It is a comment on the educational system that people can't read quickly. With all the staring at phones and tablets, how come people can't read a short subtitle?
Nice I can rewatch the movie and enjoy the dub. More stuff needs to be dubed so we can enjoy how we want to.
How much are u getting paid to praise this movie? because you’ve done it so many times already.
Not interested in the dub so much. Just want to see the film again.
Japanese version will always be superior
this is good as it means I'll be able to convince my dad to watch it
Geekdom are you going review on dvd as well?
10-12 million apparently
This film was brilliant. Loved the ending..
Dub was surprisingly ok!
I can read subtitles, when it comes to watching anime subbed. I have the problem of trying to stay awake. I started watching Shin Godzilla, and dozed off while watching it in Japanese.
When you mentioned the scream you made me think of the Japanese j i r e n scream before Goku lost Ultra instinct versus the American one and how much different it sounded
Why not review about that french shark film under Paris that released on Netflix. It seems to be quite good as well
I can't wait to watch the Spanish dub. That's going to be a mess. Lol
I always prefer to watch things in what native language they’re speaking, but since I have 2 kids and a wife they rather hear things dubbed
I'm so glad you brought up the visually impaired. The people who complain about the dub don't even think about us. I'm also glad you brought up the fact that we have to look at the screens. Whether it be a computer screen or TV screen extremely close, I'm not going to lie that there's been times where I've even had to pause it just to get a full sentence or paragraph that somebody is stating. This can make watching anime or movies take even longer. Sometimes two to three times longer depending on how heavy the dialogue is.
This movie was phenomenal and worth the wait. It definitely lived up to the hype. Wasn't able to make it to the theater. My kids enjoyed watching it a bit too
Your previous reviews intrigued me enough to go watch the movie and I must say, your reviews were spot on
It’s a great movie with a great story imo
Omg I didn’t know that oh I can’t wait to watch it
I’m not even a fan of the English subtitles on the Netflix version. It’s so different than the theatrical version.
I don't understand why dubs exist these days, the internet has in a way made the world unified. I get dubbed animation, but dubbing over another physical human being in a foreign language is weird.
Some people have reading or disability issues so I understand why they exist.
It's good for kids too that can't read very fast
Now see I rewatched this 7 times on Netflix before even realizing there was an English dub for it
That's OK. I watched Kung Fu Hustle several times on DVD until I finally realized there was a dub option in the DVD
8.5/10
Thought the dub was really good
First
They cut out so much from the original movie on netflix. Pissed
I swear the people who first came up with this new mandate that Asians must only be voiced by Asians or blacks must only be voiced by blacks etc, as opposed to using actors with the right range and talent is legitimately stupid to say the least and clearly the rule was made by people who are just political and know literally nothing about film or creativity. Being represented is good but thinking this tactic is the solution has always been rubbish.
Whats your opinion on the current ultraman English dubs
Second 🎉
