The album version of this track is so damn good. Played live however…wow. Stunning.

Love this band.
A sense of romanticised male delivered despair and bittersweet nostalgia is such a common theme among bands like Interpol, The National, Future Islands, Arcade Fire. Makes me wonder the level of sublimation the lyricists experience or if its just a sentimental façade.
Just got into these guys, really loving them, they are bloody awesome

I kind of want them to stay less commercially known, makes them more special to us fans who look hard to find great music. Music which isn't stuck in the "popular music" genre like the drivel we hear on Radio 1

these lyrics are very far from correct

I think these guys are singing the same tune over and over with a slight variation of lyrics and a slight variation of U2ish joy divisionsish Curish licks. I thought they were really good but they're just really good pastiche .
It might be because he's singing in baritone that it feels like the same sound. But apart from that, the melody and percussion are different for almost all songs.
BBC needs to learn how to mix The National's music, this is abhorrent.
