This has to be my favorite video so far. Everyone seems to be getting more comfortable or at least more adjusted to being on camera. Joe is hilarious, Nancy very clearly has the most fun seeing your family having fun and Craig really seems to be coming out of his shell. You are all seriously helping people. The Lord is certainly working through your family.

Stephanie would make the best guardian in the world! Had a tear in my eye while watching that part of this video, god willing that won’t be for many many years. There is a spot in heaven for you both as the most loving parents ever! With that aside, ADVENTURELAND took those tears away and brought back the smile I always have watching this beautiful family enjoy time together. Keep an eye out in your PO Box Craig. ❤

I am loving these sit down chats and it's really cool that Joe sat in and shared his experiences as well. It's great to see that you all support one another as a team where Craig's care is concerned. Stephanie is a wonderful sister and it shows how beautiful her heart is that she was determined to be his caretaker from such an early age. It's nice listening to how you're all aware of the way that he thinks and don't feel annoyed or upset that he doesn't hold a door open, for example. I imagine that you try to keep him from watching certain movies. Has there ever been a show or movie that Craig wanted to watch but you were reluctant to allow him to see? Thank you so much Nancy, I do enjoy your wealth of information and your wonderful energy. I think yt is definitely what you were destined to do.❤

I applaud you guys for your honesty and be willing to share a difficult conversation of to who to care for your child when you're gone...... My mother is the guardian of her sister that has down syndrome, And my mother had already set up in her Will that if something was to happen to her sister (my aaunt) that both myself and my sister will would become co-guardians of our aunt.... My mother did not want my aunt to end up in a group home, But this is because my mother still had the image of group homes of the 70's & '80s which was a horrible place for people with special needs. I have the fortunate experience of managing a group home for over 7 years and things have changed in the health care field with people with special needs and they are living productive lives... Me working in the healthcare field and showing my mother that they are good people that take care of people's loved ones have made her become comfortable with one day the possibility of her sister living in one..

And while she and Craig are roughly the same age, there are two little ladies that I'm sure will grow up being very close to their uncle. Actually my Justin (oldest) favors your Craig, in looks, personality, it's uncanny. The first video I saw, Craig was playing with a plushie. I can see his tunnel vision in the way he walks. Craig is determined and set on his path. His mind is set on getting from a to b as soon as he can, probably to avoid interference from other pedestrians etc. I'm sure people and things can deter his passage and he's set on getting through that part as quickly as he can.

You guys are amazing parents! Thank you for sharing your experiences with us! I work in an elementary school autism classroom K-5, & one of my biggest worries is helping these kiddos prepare, not only for middle & high school, but the lives they'll live after schooling is over, especially for the ones who don't have nearly as solid a foundation as the one you're so wonderfully providing for Craig. I never take for granted the parents, such as yourselves, who are as caring & involved in their child's growth in life. The world needs more parents like you.

Some time ago, I think it was one of our therapists who said "When you've met one child with Autism, you've met one child." The number of similarities between Craig and our son is stunning. They share a lot of the same mannerisms, speech patterns, likes and dislikes. But there are some distinct differences. We too think about care after we pass. Our son has two wonderful brothers but I want those two to have their own lives as long as we can make it happen.

And when it comes to the topic of who will care for him when my husband and I are no longer here always is a tough subject to talk about. So glad that Craig has great siblings that will care for him when the untimely happens. I honestly started tearing up when Joe mentioned that Craig might go in a home, because I know as parents we could never imagine our child being in a total stranger's care. I've lived alone 9 years now and im 28 so around Craigs age and i've had the hardest time keeping up with it i can't be self sustaining its just not possible so i need help from my parents from time to time. Its embarrassing and i'm not sure what i'll do when my parents pass. But i know it will all work out, it does get lonely! especially because my aspergers makes me super awkward in social situations, so its hard to meet new friends. Its very reasonable you and Joe worry about him. The worlds a scary place even just as a neurotypical person. You guys are blessed and so is Craig. Hes a beacon of light in this world! I think Craig could learn to drive, however, as you mentioned he wouldn’t be able to adapt to driving on the road with traffic, weather, etc…You probably could teach Craig a multitude of highly technical skills, but if it didn’t fit exactly as he learned, he likely couldn’t adapt rapidly enough…I have a good friend that has a son about Craig’s age that’s also high functioning. He works, but cannot live by himself safely, drive, etc…However, he lives at home in a loving family and is very happy. A couple of questions… Has Craig tried Chinese food yet? Has he learned to swim? I’m glad to see Craig is living his best life with family:-)

    can y'all talk about:
    1. how did you explain to your other kiddos of Craig's situation? what tactics have you found that helped them understand, especially when you all have to do what only Craig wants to do?
    2. do you still get stares from the public (vs in the past) and questions? what have you to be the best way to explain why Craig is the way he is?
    thank you :)

My Aunt is in her 70’s, and she’s always been on almost the exact level as Craig is. She wasn’t ever diagnosed as autistic, because I just don’t think that was a thing back then, but she’s definitely on about an 8 year old level, although, she has an amazing memory, just like Craig! She remembers everyone’s name that she’s ever met, and their birthdays too. Plus, she’s a big country music buff, so her music knowledge is pretty amazing.:)
I can relate to your not wanting to talk about where would Craig go if anything happened, because I was very close to my grandparents and my aunt was my bestie as I grew up. So my mom is my Aunts sister, and she was always going to take my Aunt too. My grandparents were the opposite of you guys, my grandma was the one who thought about a home, but my grandpa wouldn’t hear of it. So my grandparents actually got sick at the same time unexpectedly, and my mom went to live with them for two years, away from home to take care of them at their home, and my Aunt did come to live with her and my Dad at first, but it was just a lot for them. They literally couldn’t go anywhere anymore and it put a LOT of stress on their marriage. That is why my grandma made alternative plans for a private home where she could also live, but would still take her state aid. So they transitioned into that. My mom also had a lot of health issues and chronic pain and migraines, so that was really hard for her to take on another adult. But that was the early 90’s, and my Aunt still lives with the same group, and my mom still goes and gets her for visits and every single holiday, plus she talks to her on the phone almost daily. Since the beginning my Aunt would get bored on visits and want to go back right after supper, so she definitely has always liked it there very much with her few friends who are like family too. I just wanted to leave this, so that you know if it ever did come to that, there are places that you can look into that are in actual neighborhoods and staffed by nice ppl who will still call your daughter for all major decisions.:) And this is SC, Ia, so not that far from you. Take care.;)) 🙏🏼👍🌷

I worked with young kids with Autism and Down Syndrome my senior year of high school for a credit. I learned so much that year and became very good at working with the kids. One kid I had was not meeting their Grad requirements until I started working with them and they surpassed them😊❤ I will always remember Mrs.Burger coming up to me in tears about how I changed a kids life and future for the better ❤ I love watching y’all and seeing Craig he is so sweet smart and amazing. He will be ok and do great things ❤
