  • Here's another machine that I got from the wonderful Sam Watson aka Beko1987 when I went to visit him recently.
Thought it was worth doing a separate video on this machine as I've a story or two to tell about it.
So let's take a look at it, see how bad it is and decide what we're going to do with it!
Hope you enjoy the video. Don't forget to comment like and subscribe as it really helps me out :)

You mentioned local electricity board showrooms. I used to live in Yeovil and it was SEB (southern electricity board) there.
Goblin were always a budget brand and the mother a friend had a Goblin cylinder back in the late 70s. It was a basic model in bright orange colour.
Everyone secretly loves an underdog and you’re now getting quite a collection of Goblin vacuum cleaners.
Always enjoy watching your videos, so please keep them coming.

Heard that you were able to pickup the blue 105c from Dorian today similar to your Auntie Mae’s vac. So excited to see a video on it!! I was able to pick up the orange one. Should definitely be the only one here in the states.

A shout out to all fellow born and bred NORWEB lads & lasses.
Kinda feeling sorry for this forlorn Goblin, a bit tatty and run down but a survivor nonetheless.
We hope that Steve can wave his magic wand, sprinkle a bit of fairy dust and turn this trash to treasure.
Here's hoping this machine gets all the bits she needs to bumble on being, at best, mediocre for many years to come.
Thank you for keeping us entertained.
    😁

Surely the Light & Easy uprights and there various brands (Hotpoint, Spinney, Grattan own brand etc) would be worthy of a “worst vacuum ever” video 🤔

Just watched dear Sam with a guest and his machine, one very similar to this one, and looked like it worked quite well...Also issues with the zipper on the bag on the other machine...Looking forward to you working your particular brand of magic, as it were, on this newest acquisition, Steve!!!

As one of your other commenters says, the 105 is the Electra brand - the front cover was huge and as you said in the video it looked like it should have a headlight in it. This wasn't used on any of their mainstream models.
The Swebline cover is from what was otherwise known as the model 102, which was the first model, in white and blueish-green, and had two fixed cord hooks and handle grip in the blueish-green colour. The most popular cleaner of this style was the 104 which came after, also in white and a sort of blusish-green, but with cream coloured parts on the handle.
They did seem to sell well, there were plenty around when I was a kid, but like a lot of Goblin cleaners, it seemed people didn't bother to get them mended. I think they just binned them. Like so many budget brands, they turned up very broken but original, without any signs of new parts having been put on them.
Regarding the baseplate, as you say, these cleaners didn't have one (like the 1334 and 1354 type Hoover junior), but I am wondering if what is stuck to the bottom of that cleaner is part of the pan-convertor for the tools. The original Goblin cleaners required the user to remove the front cover and then take the belt off by hand (yes, really), which was a job & a half, what with it being a very tight, twisted flat belt. The hose then went over the belt pully, just like on a Hoover Junior 119. But later models had hoses fitted with a pan converter.

    • @TheVintageApplianceEmporium
      @TheVintageApplianceEmporium  Год назад +1

Turns out, it WAS the baseplate for this machine! It was just a little bent n broken (know the feeling!). We'll see it again in an upcoming video

Well I'm glad you got to the bottom of that. I never gave it a thought until now but back in 1982 we went to visit some relatives in Wales and they had a Goblin upright that was branded Singer. I have never seen anything like it since and I don't remember if it was a 102 or 104 version. Must be rare.

Very nice. 🙂 I have that machine labeled Electra for the Eastmidlands Electricity Board. The bag is just orange. The cover says Electra and has a reflective strip on it that pretends to be a lens lol.
The sole plate might be correct. Mine doesn't go all the way to the edge. I can't quite see in the video.🤔
I also have a new in box Goblin 104 I think....
it's white and blue. It's packed away and not seen it in quite a while. So I can't confirm the model number lol

Goblin I’ve never been a fan of, I had a Goblin mains powered handy vac, in the 90s it was pretty terrible, it blew out more dust than it picked up 😆 I know the Goblin name is Asda own brand for a while in more recent years. Be interested see how this one goes.

Talking about brushes damaging carpets, supposedly the Hoover uprights did eat the carpets a bit, we have an ex. Electrolux employee at work and when they were testing vacuums the hoover ones would get up more than they put down.
