Probably the coolest part of this soundtrack is how the ambience still sounds like music. In other places, you think you're hearing music only to find out "Ohhhh *this* is what was making that sound!" Example: Power cords or those Vort containers.
That's Mike Morasky for you. One of the things about his work that I'm a huge fan of, is what I'd like to call "musical atmospheres". In Portal 2, music is stimulated through your interactions with the world. Example: when you jump with the blue Gel, the music shifts/ When you jump during the CLASSICAL MUSIC level, it turns industrial mid-air/ Robotic sounds are actual musical strings. And many more I would guess. By the way, if you played Limbo, there's that part where the gravity changes, the chord changes each time it happens.
@@PalaceDude god i loved the interactive music in portal 2 so much, getting launched by a portal into another portal and just hearing the music get more intense as its happening, its those details that truly make me respect and appreciate Mike Morasky and i knew the HLA music was gonna be good when i saw that he was the soundtrack producer for it

I figured it was the g-man as soon as Eli mentioned that it wasn't a weapon, but a prison with something or someone in it that didn't like the combine. Who else would need all that to be contained. The g-man even says it himself. "Gordon Freeman. heh. Ms. Vance, you wouldn't need all that to imprison Gordon Freeman.
@@waharadome but it's easy to figure out before the reveal. Honestly I'm surprised anyone actually thought it was Freeman. It seems very obvious from the beginning that they're holding gman because why else would you need an alien prison? Freeman can be held in a locked closet. The prison being so advanced means you should have assumed it was something more powerful than freeman. And the only other thing that fits the bill and would be interesting enough for a game would be gman.
To me this music perfectly encapsulates a border between anxiety and triumph. It's like everything is falling apart, but you think there might be something better beyond the gaps.

Gives a feeling that something is horribly wrong with what's trapped in the vault... EDIT: We have a name for this track from Mike himself - 'Icosahedron'. Note that an Icosahedron is a 20 sided shape, and it's also the shape of a bacteriophage's Capsid - which is what the prison inside the vault looks like
When I entered the vault, it really was an epic moment. Watching buildings float in mid-air, the thundering and thumping were heard inside the vault. I felt like I just entered a completely different dimension.
I think he was truly trapped in there (remember that the vortigaunt can prevent gman from doing something), but the question is, is he let himself get caught or what......
I think The Combine did capture him. Breen probably interrogated G-man himself. That's why he knows about Gordon's contract as well as his time in stasis. Still, he was probably told only half truths and vague cryptic stuff.
This makes me think of stars in the last of their life, growing into massive Red Giants, the planets they once gave life to now dead and blasted, eventually such a star exploding in a supernova, then collapsing into a neutron star, or even a black hole. Yet there is beauty in all this destruction.
It's funny how all these comments are like "I knew the Gman was there all along". I mean.. I didn't. I wasn't thinking about it. And when they mentioned Gordon, I thought it was Gordon. Yes, I was following what the devs wanted me to follow. And? I felt the most awesome impression when they revealed the Gman. I'm glad I didn't know it was him all along..

There's probably lots of Portal leitmotifs in this game's OST. You could think of it as a nod for fun. And I suppose it makes sense because the stories of Aperture and City 17 are happening in the same world. Makes me wonder what the Borealis will do, in regards to making a nod to Portal.

@@unfortunatewormpile6872 I think it'd be cool to have a HLA styled Doug Rattman game, showing his POV of Bring Your Cat To Work Day when GLaDOS killed everybody and took over Aperture, and the first days of the Black Mesa Incident, trying to evade GLaDOS' death traps but also running away from Xen flora and fauna that's teleported into the Enrichment Center, and in the end of the game maybe GLaDOS sterilizes the facility and burns all presence of Xen, explaining why Portal 1 and Portal 2 has no signs of Xen. It could also have potential for horror elements in regards to Rattman's schizophrenia so maybe his POV would make Aperture look terrifying, imagine crawling through air vents and looking for important documents while you keep hallucinating and visual distortions, creepy effects try to confuse you, the Player. the vault is a metaphor, its a 20 sided dice, it works by lowering the probability of the interior existing to almost nothing. just my theory since gman is some kind of god
