Thank you very much Maestro Edgar for the video! Great tone of the instrument! I wanted to ask you. When you recreate an instrument, do you copy the thickness distribution of old instruments or are you guided by the setting of free plates? Thank you very much! Best regards!

LOL Beijing, Taiwan, Taipei.....🤣🤣🤣. I just bought a violin from Shanghai cuz I'm poor. Believe me, it's not easy to produce good sound from this one - maybe a change of strings, or better hair on the bow. We'll see if it helps. The 1st violin was excellent; a nice orchestra violin. The 2nd was a masterpiece; it sang like an angel. Easily a virtuoso instrument. However, I prefer, when they make a copy of a great violin, that they make it not aged, but how it would have looked just after it left the luthier's hand. let it age on its own and become its own legend, and if a copy, the label should read Edgar Russ *after* the Guarneri Sainton.

The first one is louder and good for concert.
The second one is sweeter and rich.
What does the performer think? What's her opinion? Thanks

I prefer the sound of the Sainton copy. Now why would the original Sainton Guarneri del Gesu be more difficult to play? I’ve also heard that the original Heifetz Guarneri del Gesu is not easy or cooperative to play. Regardless, you do very nice work!!🎻

Video sound through speakers is probably not the best, setup to taste, and room reverb may effect things, the upper strings the same while Heifetz base sounds hasher and the Sainton rounder with fewer subtle hash resonances. Both compared to most instrument tests I hear from someone demoing their their better store violins they are trying to sell, sound very good and have character and I have a bad ear and would fail most blind tests. From what I know the neck attachment is not Guarneri since they attached the neck differently, so copying that feature exactly would be copying some unknown persons work.

Perhaps I will never understand why "aging" of violins with bad purfling, flattened scrolls, scratches in a wonderful wood and so on makes any sense. And after all it should be a personally identifiable work? Wouldn't it be better to be inspired by a great old master and take only his measures, similar wood and varnish without damaging the violin? Is a copied Rembrand of any worth?
