    Alright you beautiful humans. Is this information a little confusing? Maybe. But it’s what I’ve found. The take home message is that if you’re using this for heavy workloads, budget for just a few hours if we’re really being realistic.

    Iam on a MB 16 M1 MAX and i did recognize about 30% battery life improvement when in Low Power Mode, but u will get about 30% less performance. But have in mind the M1 Max have so much power, that u will not recognize these on normal usage.

    • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  2 года назад +1

      Yeah it’s almost as if the efficiency cores alone are as powerful as some laptops running at a full clip. 🤷‍♂️
      I’m still experimenting with it, but for the day-to-day I can always adjust when I need to, but I have to say that I do like the option to toggle it on and off.

    I am on a 14" M1 Max w/ 24c gpu, 32gb ram, 1tb ssd using low power mode. I am sitting here after using my laptop for web browsing, installing Affinity Photo, software development (VSCode: Go, Angular) and it's been 4 hours and at 73% battery.
    I am testing it in low power mode to see how long it will go. I tweaked other settings and wrote a script to alert me when the Mac gets in

      Yeah, your configuration (I think) is a sweet spot for the M1 Max. Awesome you’re getting those results so far.
      I have been testing a power bank that I really like. It’s from Omnicharge. I mentioned it in my accessories video from last week. I’m continuing to test it, but so far, it’s been great to have on the road.

    Exactly what I’m looking for! It’s understandable that 14 inch M1 Max last shorter when you really have to push it, but it definitely matters more when it’s handling light load as a laptop, as that’s the key of paying for a MacBook Pro instead of a combo of MacBook Air+Mac Studio

    Very helpful video, in my documentary production class they talked about running on externals, but all there methods of file organization and reasoning behind running externals were way over our heads. Left star dazed I found your video and kind of regretted going to my tech for video pro work. Your tutorials help immensely and are a lot more clear to understand and concise in my mind.

    I have a base model 16 inch mbp. I took this to work. Powered it on. Opened one safari tab and left it loaded on screen. This tab had our fleet of trucks. So it was our gps landing page that refreshed a couple times a minute. Additionally, I had a bt mouse connected. Absolutely nothing else was going on. Nothing else running in the background. I just wanted one screen for this gps page. Battery lasted me 7 hours. Almost exactly 7 hours. Did this 3 days in a row with same performance. I’m not happy with these results. 7 hours is no where near what apple touted.

    • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  2 года назад +1

      Now this is an interesting test here. Were you able to dig into Activity Monitor or any third party apps to see if the site is resource intensive?
      Also, I do think that there are certain tasks that can be a bit nuanced where the cores on the higher end machines (CPU and GPU) are managing the load a bit better…but I’d need a base model to compare.
      Have you, or are you trying any other tests? I’d say you should get well beyond that 7 hours.

    • @BreinGames

      @@KevinRossRN I didn’t check anything out to test performance. And I’m not doing any tests. honestly, I’m a windows guy. My Lenovo yoga laptop’s batter was bulging so I decided to try out a Mac. So I bought a m1 mbp 13 in June. Used it maybe twice. Then these new mbp’s came out and I wanted the big screen. So I got the 16. It’s a glorified media player for me.

    • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  2 года назад +1

      Yikes! Yeah that’s a lot of coin to drop for a media player. Even running Windows through Parallels is smooth, but again, not necessarily a good excuse for the MBP alone. IMO.

    I just received my MBP, M1 Max, 32GB and 1TB ssd. I cannot tell if something is wrong with my device, but i'm getting very disappointing battery life! Even when browsing the internet my battery is dropping like crazy. I'm getting around 3-4 hours doing very light work (and not many apps opened). Honestly what could I do to fix this, because for the amount of money, even my 2015 Macbook Air will beat this battery life....?

    • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  2 года назад

      How long have you had it? And, are you primarily using Chrome?
      Also, you may need a few battery cycles to work through. And in activity monitor are you seeing primarily the efficiency cores being used?

    •  2 года назад

      @@KevinRossRN I've had this Macbook since this Wednesday and went through one full battery cycle so far. Just now I've been setting up all my software to start my graphic design work, but considering i've only been browsing on safari/chrome i find this battery performance very worrying for this expensive of a device. Especially since I was planning on using this MBP for creative work and also take it to college to follow classes. I am not looking forward to constantly having to charge during lectures. A different more efficient Macbook would be not powerful enough for my work, so that's couldn't be an option either. Apple definitely advertised the battery to be better, or I have a faulty unit?

    • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  2 года назад

      I’m not sure if you have a faulty unit, but I’d try to work through a few cycles and let it learn how you’re using it.
      Chrome will definitely use more resources, but I also have Chrome as well, and tested it with that browser. Did you look to see if you have anything else running in the background that could be a battery hog?
      I found in my initial tests just a couple of days in I had a monitoring app that seemed to crush the battery at first, but then I was able to get that resolved.

    Thank you! Thank you. Thank you. Using not too much a load, with brightness I don't need a candle to see the screen, I get roughly 8 hours life. Reboots and software loads on our 16 inch M1 Max's are at best 10% faster than our 9 year old MacBook Pros (with SSD). Apple have way overhyped the capability of these machines. And as you noted, they weren't cheap. I suspect now the real reason Apple left Intel, wasn't breakthrough speed or battery life, because for sure it isn't, but that Apple wanted the processor margin $ they were paying to Intel.

    • @KevinRossRN
      @KevinRossRN  2 года назад +1

      Yeah, will the way logistics are now, and Apple already dealing with their own manufacturing delays, this is also about cutting that dependence on other manufacturers (Intel) as much as possible.
      Glad you found us over here.
