    Before i watched this video i was totally hopeless l was even crying. Not because this concept in particular, but i just felt really overwhelmed because of my exams and when i struggled with this concept i just exploded and started crying. I watched many long videos and i didn't understand. But a 10 minutes video helped me and cheered me up. It may seem redecolus but i really needed to feel that at least something is easier than i thought ..

    ∆Y= 1/2 at² become t= √2∆Y/a
    Because we are solving for time, how did we come up t=√2∆Y/a in ∆Y=1/2 at² ???
    Multiply both sides by 2
    Therefore,
    2(∆Y)= 2( 1/2 at²)
    2∆Y= at²
    Divide both sides by "a"
    2∆Y/a = at²/a
    2∆Y/a= t²
    Square root both sides
    √t²= √2∆Y/a
    t= √2∆Y/a

    *Does the moon have any effect onto the free fall of an object between the moon and the earth, or the free fall of an object from the left side of the earth while the moon is on the right side of the earth?* I watched some videos explaining free fall on earth without the gravity of the moon which has effects on the oceans to cause low and high tides on earth.

    • @stepbystepscience
      @stepbystepscience  5 лет назад +1

      Anything that a regular person would drop onto the surface of Earth would not be effected by the moon's gravitational pull. The mass of the object would be too small and the distance would be too great.

    • @willoughbykrenzteinburg
      @willoughbykrenzteinburg 5 лет назад

      The moon would have no noticeable effect on something free falling near Earth. The Earth's gravity would dwarf any effect of the moon's gravity. Things like tides are indeed caused from lunar gravity, but not really directly. Because the Earth is so large, there is a real difference between the parts of Earth closest to the moon and those parts farthest away, and this difference manifests itself through rising and lowering tides. This is very large scale stuff that doesn't have any effect on some regular object falling here on Earth.

    It's one thing to discuss math, and word problems, but it's another to explain how the math works. Almost every discussion I see on this standard free fall equation fails to simply explain the purpose of the exponent (which can be eliminated by a much simpler reinstatement of the equation). By intuition, one thinks that if the gravitational rate of acceleration is 9.8m/s, then in 1 second an object will free fall 9.8m. But this is incorrect- It takes time for that acceleration rate to be achieved, and in fact, it takes literally half the time- which is why the division and the square. So if we restate this equation without the exponent, but doing it in a way that reflects that 'half'concept, we get this: Vf = Vo + (at/2) * t

    The acceleration is not a constant it is a variable. Things dont always freefall at a constant rate of 9.81 m/s2 but everything falls in the state of constant acceleration.

    • @stepbystepscience
      @stepbystepscience  9 месяцев назад

      This video is about free fall and when we talk about free fall we mean that the only force acting on the object is the force of gravity. And therefore it accelerates at a constant rate of 9.81 m/s2. Thank you.

    • @dragonz_eye
      @dragonz_eye 9 месяцев назад +1

      @stepbystepscience The comment is for those that think gravity on earth is always and only 9.81 m/s2. It's not. It is an independent variable.
      Even gravimeters can measure different rates of acceleration in the same spot within different variable.
      So,.. freefall is not always precisely g=9.81 m/s2.
      It's just a chosen rate.
      Thanks for clarification.

    Sir, I want to ask a question that
    Why sky diving (without parachute)is considered as Free fall,
    I get confused as there is air resistance in this...
    I am struggling a lot.... For it..
    Please answer..

      Free fall is when something falls (or is moving upwards) and only experiences the force of gravity. We ignore all other forces, even though they may actually be there. Sky diving may not be the best example of free fall, but if we ignore air friction....

    >< rewriting equations have always been a pain in my butt but thanks for ACTUALLY explaining the concepts. T.T My physics teacher just rambles on and I understand what she is talking about but she doesn't EXPLAIN it. SO she just assumes we are all smart cookies and understand she is saying. Thanks.
