It’s heartwarming to know the whole audio community came together to throw gas on the dumpster fire that is waves. Don’t stop now more gas and pitchforks we need at the very least a free update!
Waves actually brought the community together.......... please shoot me. Power to the people said the Jew we cancel shocking fake news and our name is 'brand' new....... Get it dummies
Hopefully they go after Universal Audio next.
True. I am also happy my voice also counted🎉
I lost fate in Waves so the only way I would buy anything from them in the future would be free update for perpetual licence
I'm a pro. I've had a lot of trouble with waves plugins. this was just the last straw.
Waves is only sorry their customers didn’t agree to getting screwed over.
The damage is done, no matter they backtrack...
Yep….. I will not spend another dime on their products….. at least Steinberg sent an email survey asking what we the customers thought of going to a subscription service…. A majority of us responded that we did not like it at all….. they didn’t pull what Waves did….
They have used this to their advantage.
Now they have reinstated a second revenue stream. Making it look like they listened, makes us accept the WUP. They should have stock with the original sub model, and given all perpetual license owners free updates as compensation.
I was new to Waves and I won't be going back. Easy to see how greedy they are and so many better options out there.
Same... Only bought one last week... Was considering others but no longer
One thing most people are missing is that if for some reason you use one of the sub plans, you give up your update and perpetual license. Its in the TCs
Still having to pay so much money for updates is absolutely ridiculous. Still not going back with them.
There are so many other rival companies out there that I’m happy to give them business
Just a shame people didn't stand up to Avid in the same way when we got shafted over Pro Tools. 😠
They didn't because big cinema studios and millionaire level studios wouldn't let it happen. They've been using Pro Tools for 30 years and changing every single project and having to learn a new DAW wouldn't be feasible for them. The amount of money they can make overly compensates over what they're spending on subscriptions and that's better for them.
Waves on the other hand thought that it would be the same, because people forked over so much money and got used to it, but probably forgot there are tons of companies which are huge competitors who are now laughing their asses off of the new customers they got from waves, me included
Avid…. Another crook… your so right and there is no question I agree ☝️
I would never subscribe to such a dishonest company
The Waves Update Plan was huge turnoff for me. I still use their stuff, but I won't even pay for the WUP now. Now they go and try to pull this stunt. That company is way too greedy and hopefully people go in a different direction. Many other companies make comparable stuff and don't do this stuff to their customers. Would it be shocking if they raise the cost for the WUP after this?
Agreed. The WUP sucks already and now this. Waves thinks they can get away with this strange email? Not in my case. I am done with Waves and will not spend anymore money with them.
Free updates or good bye no question
They want to hold our waves plugin settings for ransome. THIS is a THUG MOVE.
I would understand that part concerning the website that they will use it as a means to keep the customers informed on the status of the rollback to the former state. I guess they already had implemented the change into their software and now need some time to roll it all back. And so they will use this website to keep everybody updated of the status. It seems Waves is really shook by the fierce reaction of their customers and are now scared to lose customers who may temporarily not be able to update their products and so they offer this website as a means of constant information of the status .I would understand this website as a service meant to apease the angry customers and not as a announcement of constant change in the future.
Either way I guess some people inside waves got seperated from their heads . . .
I was already tired of wup for 3-5 plugins I use. This was final nail in the coffin. Not using waves
We are sick of it. Let's start a movement. Let's fight back. Media influencers should make it a point to stop reviewing subscriptions or urge their followers to not use subscriptions. The manufacturers will get the message. Most of us are struggling musicians. We all want to own our software
This is where the problem is these so called content creaters are so far up these affiliates arse crack they were only angry at the fact that it messed up their affiliates in my opinion , it effecting us i dont think they really care theyre all out for bread they all see us as currency weather you are waves or a so called content creator/INFLUENCER in my humble opinion.
No, you are sick of it. I’m personally fine with subscription models. The problem was not that they introduced a subscription model. It’s that you had to subscribe to it in order to retain perpetual licenses that you have already paid for. Just like Avid a greedy company. But plug-in alliance’s sub model is super fair. And I chose the UAD subscription model as well now because I felt it was more value for money. With a plug-in budget for 150$ a year, it would take me like 6 years to buy the plugins I want. Now I can just enjoy all their plugins right away while paying a yearly fee of the same budget. 6 years from now I might not even use the plugins anymore. But I’ll likely still subscribe for all the new stuff they’ve added over time.
@@afroham I totally agree with you. I'm a EW Subrscriber, but for a few bucks each month I have a library of more than 40.000 sounds, good quality and constantly updating! Maybe not the best in the market, but with an incredible quality/price rate.
The problem is corporate greed, mostly in companies that where among the first in the market and now sleep on the past glory. Over that, a manager only looking at the balance sheet and not giving a dime to what the customers want can do so many damage that it could be unrecoverable. I hope this is not the case anyway, but they deserved a lesson and I hope it's going to be a really big one.
I used to work at a College and managed the music lab computers. This change is going to mess up educational space huge!
FREE UPDATE FOR EVERYONE AS AN APOLOGY
I appreciate you talking about this. Ethics should rule above everything.
If you think your work can only sound good with Waves plugins then you are the problem.
For myself, I think this should be the call for marriage counselling. Yes, an apology was made, but this could have been avoided. And yes, going forward, things need to be done differently if it’s going to be mutually beneficial.
They were shamed into reinstating the system that needed fixing to begin with. Now that they’ve tried a worse sales model, it’s supposed to look better in comparison?
Wow! It was the smallest protest with the biggest impact! The reaction from Waves came within 24 hours after all the protest videos were uploaded! Waves really listened, it seems! So. let's see what the future will bring us.
Total TRUST is gone, why can't a business that is probably doing well, turn around and shove a pole up north? No one is ever happy, if you all don't want your business anymore me and a few business partners, and several customers on here will be more than happy to take over the company as it is. If you all are done please let us know, we will make an offer I'm sure you will accept. Thanks Stuart
I'm not a music producer or anything but I do own a single Waves plugin (Clarity VX). I am just wondering if this whole fiasco will spur a change in what is considered best practices when mixing is done. I have read a whole lot of comments about how people were screwed because their software was updated and took away their ability to work on any tracks that Waves plugins were used in. Should producers be changing the way they mix and teach mixing going forward?
Producers shouldn't change the way they mix just because of an incompatible version of their plugin. Should it happen, then they can use it as a lesson, and start by learning their DAW's stock plugins and/or get free plugins that can do the same, if not, better than what Waves can do. That way, if they do run into that issue, they can revert to a plugin they have access to and achieve an equal or better sound than what the Waves plugin produced. It's usually best practice to be familiar with your already accessible tools before diving into third party tools. Cheers!
@@ShadyGabe I agree with that explanation. It just seemed in some of the comments I was reading that so many people felt stuck without Waves plugins and I was wondering if producers are too dependant on 3rd party software for production.
@@theamateurwithaccess I haven't read comments like that. If I had a choice, I would be loyal to my DAW's plugins before anything else. At least I know I own them when I buy the DAW. It's a ballsy move to fully depend on third party plugins, I would say.
You are reading it wrong: the reason why they have a dedicated page is not because they intend to continue making changes to their policies. The fact is that reversing policy has huge technical implications, they can't simply go back with the switch of a button, they will need to have developers undoing a lot of back-end changes to their copy protection, without breaking the new code for subscription. For this reason, they know that it will take weeks to actually re-enable the old system, and for this reason they want to give constant updates of how they are proceeding, to show that "YES it is happening, we are working on it". With this, I am not saying that they will not pull the same moves again in six months, I am not excusing their poor decisions, I am just making a point that this dedicated page is a temporary thing and it's part of their fire-fighting the bushfire they created.
True, however, their INTENTIONS are still the same. GREED!!!
as consumers i believe we need to make examples out of these companies. sink waves into the ground and let everyone else know what they shouldnt do
I don’t think causing more people to lose jobs will fix the problem.
@@DenOfTimbsllc It will stop people at other jobs from repeating such mistakes that made these people to lose their jobs.
Otherwise, if there are no repercussions to such big mistakes, others will try to repeat it, hoping that in their cases there wouldn't be such a big backlash and they will get away with it.
What they are going to lose? To say that "they are sorry"? If they know that they may lose their jobs - that might be a good incentive not to repeat this mistake.
Just checked there site and thought you could still buy individual plugins but it doesn't look like that. ???
While home studios can easily replace Waves with equivalent plugins from other manufacturers ie- PA and UA, it is the standard in most commercial studios in the Valley and LA.
No matter how small no matter how big CHANGE will come. Do or Die.
UA is grossly overpriced.
They should give everyone a free plug-in for having to even experience the whole fiasco
definitively. Consider the stress we´ve been put through with this nonsense! 😱 But then again, Waves showed their ugly face....
And free wup for life
Free updates and 2nd licenses for 5 years
@@bernieschmidt A little greedy. But I'm all for the people pushing back.
I went to Waves and they don't mention price. Just try and no mention of cost. Never seen that before from any kind of seller.
Great points. I'll be waiting to see how things play out for a while, but in the meantime, I'll be continuing with the idea that there's a very good chance I'll have to ditch them altogether. One good thing is that I found this channel because of this debauchery. lol
their letter says: sorry that you felt stressed and it was fast, we will go back because its your wish. And it means: We dont see it like you, we saw you suffering but dont understand why. We go back because we saw your feedback, but we dont see a good reason to go back other than your feedback.
Its really poor. They just didnt get it.
...you broke my heart fredo... WAVES is dead to me.
😂😂😂
This is why I don’t use a computer to make music.
Your 2nd license for a product will remain valid only as long as your Waves Update Plan coverage for that product remains current.
Only products with current Waves Update Plan coverage are eligible for this option. If you do not see the product(s) for which you want 2nd licenses, you can renew your Waves Update Plan for those products. So I have to update all my plugins so it can work in the other studio..(Only Waves 14 works on other Computer NOT Waves 13)
If they were getting rid of WUP for the subscription, why not get rid of it all together.
Waves as a company are getting more and more unstable, the wise thing to do is check other options to be on the safe side..
We all know what they will try next.. They will gradually increase the pricing of the WUP in the hopes of getting users to migrate over to subscription… as Avid tried
I agree, I don't think they learned anything. They were so confident that their blackmail would work that they built their entire new site on it and are now having trouble reverting those changes ;)
Those who don't mind the subscription - will subscribe without waiting for it.
Those who dislike the subscription - will migrate over to other companies instead, who value their customers more than just as a $24.99/month cashcow.
I didn't have any trust in Waves even prior to this greedy move.
Too bad Avid hasn't responded the same way with their subscription plans.
Avid has been the lion far too long but today there are many better options I said good bye to them a long time ago “Money Tools”
Update plan wasn't a deal at all! The second license was a spit in the ocean compared to the price, a lot of other companies gave already something like 10 auth. (IK Multimedia), but almost all give a minimum of 2 install. In any case, given the fact that Waves plugins cost was about 29 each (with a false and perpetual "special offer") and the REALLY useful plugins where more or less 20, the update plan was dangerously near to a total new license purchase! Most of all, it was already a subscription plan, masked as update plan.
Think about it: plugins like L1/2 series, IR series, Q series, Renaissance series and all the REALLY useful one, they are ABSOLUTELY THE SAME in the last 10 years. So what' was the update plan for? To make THE SAME OLD PLUGINS work IN THE SAME OLD WAY on a new OS. That's a subscription plan!
No, they already deserved a big slap in the face, they've been lucky til now and that made them arrogant. I hope they will be "slapped" now, hard as it should be.
I can not afford to have Waves mess with my studio's time and money. I have deleted all my Waves plugins and will only deal with companies who have the recording, mixing and mastering engineer best interest in mind. There are so many other companies and creatives who deserve our support. Waves business model is a complete rip off!
I've moved on from Waves. They are not the "be all to end all" plugins. Imho, Waves has more crappy plugins than they do useful ones. I'm also done talking about or listening to people talk about Waves! (I liked your video though!)
going forward new plugins will probably never be outside subscription.
They keep saying perpetual licence, which is a misnomer and gaslighting us a bit. You need the update plan, i have old licenses that i would need to pay to update and haven't done so. So, they're not 'perpetual' at all.
It means you keep paying them in perpetuity.
@@itchyvinyl Haha I never thought about it like that, but you're right.
No reason to trust them at all. Again, according to current Terms if you sub then you lose your perpetual licenses. Also, their subscriptions are lame and not flexible enough. Just a little win with a company that hates it’s customers. This proves very little, other than they are scared.
Yes, the subscription should let users choose the plugins they pay for - I'd rather pay $5 a month for three plugins of my choice than $15 for 110 chosen by Waves
Damage is done. I will not return to Waves
Went 100% Linux audio 3 years ago.
Waves? What were they again?
Oh that's right the ILOK monstrosity.
I am sure Waves will see less plugins purchased from devoted customers.
I will not but anything anymore from them and I made decision long time ago.
For the enormous insult to all of us, who pay their salaries and keep their company alive, free updates from here on out or NO MORE BUSINESS!
I no longer trust plugin companies. They can all pull this garbage on us.
Too late, marriage is over, divorce papers are in the mail. Oh and also honey, you can keep the WUP, I don't want it any more.
twitter and other social busted their balls
Hold up.. they only sent that email to people who gets paid to help promote their products first. I never got an email yet, still waiting..
I WISH that were true, Waves has never paid me a dime, an after my Waves April Fool video, probably never will lol !
ruclips.net/video/Irwze89lKhg/видео.html
@Featherlightstudio I'm not saying you, but I know the old pay,o,la is real and a whole lot of youtubers get free software plus a cut from people clicking their link if they're interested in the product. That's who I'm talking about.
When Adobe started their sub service it was a slow process and made sense because they have extremely expensive products so the subs actually improved consumer access. Waves is not Adobe & never will be. I would just ditch Waves now and spare yourself potential future disappointment. Premium tools don't make better music, they just make it easier to create good music. If you have time and patience you can create tracks as good as any major label artist with 100% free tools.
I think the second license is bull, good for you that it works in your studio, but most companies give you the second license for free when you buy their stuff. Arturia even gives you 5. Other companies 3. Its sucks and every year you have to pay to keep your plugins working on a second computer. smh
the audio blunt of the century
Nothing has stopped. Waves is forcing me to upgrade to version 14 because i updated to Windows 11 what a complete joke. I'm done.
Just found your channel. Subbed ya up... Looking forward to checking in you...
Waves is based in Tel Aviv. That's all you need to know.
But are they really sorry? Mail by chatgpt 😂
When someone reveals who they are, duly note it and adjust your behavior accordingly...just sayin'.
A little too late. I am done With them... IK multimedia is my alternative now.
SCREW WAVES. The People See. What I see here is an apologist for Waves. This is not just about Waves. The reason we went into the box, THE COMPUTER, was to save money. To make recording CHEEP. So a ordinary Joe Soap with a computer a mouse and a sound card could MAKE MUSIC. Now its gone ridiculous. If the ordinary Joe Soap had a hit, Like a real hit number one in lots of country's. Every one would be using the DAW he used, the card he used, the mic he used. They would all be copying him because he has what sells. BUT THAT HAS NOT HAPPENED YET! Music has become sterile. Everyone is thinking, "I got to have that to make this, I got to have this to make that" PLUGINS PLUGINS PLUGINS, Equipment Equipment Equipment, Will never produce a song. The Music, which is melody, has to be first. And if the melody is true, regardless of weather it was recorded on a 2 bit tape recorder or a Waves plugin, it will RING TRUE! as it has in past. NO! all this technology can become detrimental in the blink of a eye. And Waves can disappear, But the melody will remain.
No
FL Studio, Lifetime free updates.
Like there update plan isn’t totally BS as well. Thanks waves for giving us a second option to jam us up. Chiseling sons a bitches.
Waves never again
We quit with Waves and will not return
free updates on the perp license or gtfo waves.
One thing isclear: we now havepower to make morerequests and win
Forget about waves, they are the worst sounding plug ins
boycott waves, no-one know when they change their mind again rather invest into other lovely developers!
I bought 4 plugins of waves because of 29$ they even had 2 plus 2 once. So this is attractive, but all the money you gonna pay after when you need to update. This is a scam in my opinion. Even my DAW update dont ask for money, why I need to pay for plugin update wtf?! Other thing very important is that you cannot run same license on two machines at the same time, you need to pass all that headache with movements of license from machine to machine while othe brands give you option to use 2 machines even 3 at the same time. Waves are worst company with the worst management crew! I don't recommend!
If someone from the waves company is reading this, you have to know, you could be the best ever but your management team ruins it all! I would never purchase from you again!
I wonder if any of the "content" creators who have made a video about this even for a second wondered if this is a strategic market move that gained them a ton of free advertising?? just saying ;) Is waves paying you guys ?
There’s no way it’s a strategic marketing plan. No marketer worth their salt would ever intentionally trash their company’s reputation just for media coverage. They have done a huge amount of damage to their brand and lost many many customers. My guess is that the marketing team did know what the impact would be and would have probably warned against it, but those at the top could only see dollar signs and thought they knew better.
I WISH they were paying me..not even a Waves ambassador...definitely not now lol! For all the money I've spent with this company, they 'should' be.
It only could be a strategic marketing move if Waves hired Plugin Alliance guys to run it.
Tons of free advertising - definitely. For PA and other competitors.
Lol. Everyone here is being played. I think Waves knew this outrage would come from the old heads in this industry to advertise their new business model for younger producers; who would gladly embrace this model to try out and use waves plugins at a budget level entry price that would lead to customized set of plugin purchases down the line.
It also allows them to reposition their plugins back to a premium brand without relying on the use of sales or reduced price to make burst profits.
Their PR and marketing team should win an award. All press is good press especially when a “compromise” is reached. I’ve never seen this level of press for UAD and Slate.
Not only did they get free press, each producers listed every waves plug-in they couldn’t live without giving them further exposure and credibility.
There is some truth to that. Media is a different beast now. Bad press spreads much faster than when people first said all press was good. The number of people who will always think negatively of the brand is larger than it would have been prior to modern social media.
If this was a ploy to get free publicity it backfired spectacularly.
@@LuckyFlesh I think that’s yet to be determined. Waves customer base who already bought their plugins at their peak price have been exhausted. I, honestly, would more readily use a subscription model like this to find what I like over the sales and such they have. Over the last week, a whole new generation of producers got introduced to Waves and their best products by the best in the business.
@Nate Thunder I agree that only time will tell how this plays out, but I see it as loyal customers and new potential customers now know that Waves will pull the rug out from under you with no warning.
They gave no options and did it all at once, out of the blue.
"Burn me once, shame on you. Burn me twice, shame on me."
BUT AFTER ONE YEAR YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE SECOND LICENSE AND HOW MANY AND WHAT TYPE OF PLUG INS YOU HAVE PER WAVES SUPPORT
