Great to see old transport companies of St Helens, the wagon and drag in the Fibreglass livery is of particular interest to me as l was Distribution Manager in the 1980’s at Fibreglass the wagon shown preceded me but we had several in my time along with a variety of custom designed vehicles to carry our mainly light weight products. Ken Gaskell and l joined Fibreglass together in 1960 and we became best mates, Ken Being my ‘Best Man’ in 1965. Ken went on to work for Dennis Heaton’s transport before branching out on his own.His first vehicle was an old furniture van which we employed running products to local warehouslng companies like Fred Davies, Beeches and Sutton’s. Ken of course went on to bigger things.
To be around St Helens in the 60’s with its vibrant industry and very active social scene( we saw the Beatles 3 times at the Plaza, the last occasion Please Please Me was No1 in the charts!) was terrific for us teenagers, the best time of our lives.
