Cats are sensetive to that and react negatively to it. Cats can also be overstimulated. For example some people tend to pet a cat like the would a dog. This will most likely not be well received by the cat and could result in a scratching. Cats also have different limits to what they like or dislike in terms of touching. They might have a certain spot where they don't like to be touched. Some cats only want headpats, or even not want to be touched at all. Some cats don't like a certain gender. I've known cats who either hated men or women. Can be a sign of abuse in the past. There's also play aggression. When playing cats senses are sharpened and a sudden motion near them can set them off. They usually are harmless, but accidents can happen. Cats are also very territorial and can react aggressively when a stranger invades their space, which is the entire house, backyard and the rest of the street :P Or you could just have horrible luck with cats xD I don't think it's your laid back attitude, because in my experience that's what cats like, relaxed during anything but playtime, which is just an explosion of energy. You could try to grab a toy next time a cat scratches you (or preferably before it happens) and see if they want to play. If they do and you play with them until they get too tired, the chances of you getting scratched will reduce significantly. If you really want to try and figure it out, there are some great videos by Jackson Galaxy on youtube that go through all these topics and more

i like when sanctuaries and conservatories replicate the wild with alot of space with alot of nature. only thing is the gates to help keep them safe from being hunted down. people think these sanctuaries and zoos are bad but they are our hope to keeping the animals safe and alive for decades to come, only improvement we can do is give them more space and nature to replicate the wild

Yeah. Any other big cat would need to be heavily conditioned from cubhood and thoroughly trained to tolerate humans, but a wild-caught adult cheetah that has been kept in a zoo for years can be naturally affectionate towards every strange adult human that it meets without any training whatsoever.
I went to the zoo a couple years ago and they had a cheetah lion tiger and dog put together it was so sweet. The lion was named Harley he would always sleep by the tiger named forest and then the cheetah would sleep a cross them like a = with a light threw it. and the dog would always sleep hiding in all the cats it was so cute and they all loved each other so much.
That's the beautiful thing about animals, they will accept each others differences in captivity. We can learn a lot from these animals to look past our human differences.
