    Oh, and congrats to Matt, kind of cool to start off the new year, newly married. I'm going to see about getting to the Feb. event in Des Plaines. I'm up in Waukegan (grew up in Deerfield), so St. Charles is kind of a hike.

    Good morning, Sam. Because Steele doesn't throw super hard, and his mechanics are pretty smooth, he could be a guy that can pitch for a really long time. Last year was his first as a #1, if that's what you want to call it. He will be better prepared for any pressure he may have experienced in that role, and it will be especially good if they add a front of the rotation starter.

    Agree with your view on Steele. His mechanics and pitches are very sustainable, simple attacking approach. I think he just lost a little steam toward the end because that was the most innings he'd ever pitched. Now that he's gone through that, and is likely building up the stamina, that late fade should be erased.

    I wish I could've told past me a week before Thanksgiving to strap in for a long and quiet off-season. It's January for Pete's sake

    If the Cubs go with what we have now, we will be competitive and be able to buy not sell at the trade deadline.

    Sam, check out my comment from your live holiday show two weeks ago. I called that Michigan game score exactly (although I’ll admit I didn’t expect an overtime game).
    Congrats again to Matt, and happy New Year to you both. Cubs are a bit boring at present but I’m hoping for some good news soon. Keep up the good work in the meantime.

    Everyone seems to say that the Cubs are going to do something but what? Who is out there to sign? It looks like to me it's Belli or NO ONE!

    • @michaelplowman8674

      Bat wise it is pretty much Bellinger or trade. There just wasn't much else available in FA.

      @@michaelplowman8674 Thats what i thought but Sam seems to think they can do something but do what? sign who?

      @@dave-pm9bu Some people, and Sam may be one, might think Chapman is a good idea. I'm not one of those guys. If I'm looking to bring in someone for 3B, I'm at least calling Boston and offering Morel, Triantos, Ferris, and Gray for Devers and Bernardino. It's about a 50% overpay, but the Cubs would lock up 3B for the next decade and get a LHRP in return for a guy who is probably a DH only and expendable parts.
      I think they get a deal done with Bellinger. I just wonder if it will have an opt out after 1 year like the Correa deal did.

      @@michaelplowman8674 I agree some Cubs fans think you can just plug someone in at 3rd base and all would be fine you cant just make someone into a 3rd baseman at this level

    • @michaelplowman8674
      @michaelplowman8674 9 месяцев назад

      @@dave-pm9bu I think Morel can be okay at 3B. I could even live with a full season of Madrigal there because at least his defense makes him about a 2 WAR player if given a full season. But I'd only be comfortable with Morel at 3B is Bellinger is manning 1B to pick up at least of few of the dozen or so errant throws he's bound to have.
