This is hands down the best tutorial series on any subject on the entire platform. Huge respect for the effort and for helping other people learn to make their own projects!
I'm glad you're still continuing this series! I just started learning and got bummed when it looked like you might have stopped! Your old series seems good as well but the way you are wording your instruction in these is easier to retain somehow.
@@Sinvallis Yeah, I didn't finish the old series because I saw this new one, but you differences are obvious, he has obviously become much better at explaining the processes.
@@joshuabridge5945do you know why hes taking só long to upload more episodes of this séries? I want to start creating my game but the dude just stoped uploading
Bro on god I was about to look in my search bar for " Thundaga tileset" thinking I was going to fall on the old series tutorial. And I see that you uploaded a new video. Exactly what I need. Crazy
Making a fan game has always been something I wanted to do but had no idea how. I stumbled onto your videos and after watching them have started a project and get such a rush of excitement when I successfully make something work the way i’ve intended! Thank you for taking the time to make these videos as they have made pokemon fan game design approachable for an extreme beginner
The way you break everything down like I'm literally 5 years old is so so helpful. What seemed daunting 30 minutes ago feels so doable now that everything is broken down!
While they were on sale, i bought the wrong version of rpg maker for pokemon essentials to work with. Cant wait to get XP so i can actually follow this series
I watched the old series you made and now im so tempted to get back into it, you have no idea how coll it is that you remade these just around this time where i got back into it, such a coincidence:D
Glad I could be here early, just wanted to say your tutorial videos are super helpful and I'm glad I was able to find them. Without them I wouldn't have been able to make nearly as much progress on my fan game, thanks again for making such a good resource 👍
I saw your last set of tutorials and, while it was good, this new and updated version is so much easier to follow. Thank you for taking the time to do this!
I just want to say thank you for these guides - for a while I've been wanting to make my own Pokemon game using Essentials, and around a week ago I finally took the first steps. These guides are really useful.
I just starting making my first miniproject yesterday and I can't figure out how to place Pokéballs with items inside, but thanks to your tutorial series I can do the basics right, thx for continuing.
Are you still having issues figuring out how to do this? To make Pokeballs in the overworld that give items, create an action button triggered event on your map and change the graphic to the Pokeball icon ("Object ball" in v21). In the event commands, create a conditional branch with the script condition "pbItemBall(:ITEMNAMEHERE)" and then add a control self-switch: A =ON command. Create a second event page for the Pokeball that's completely blank with the condition self switch A is ON. This will make it so that the Pokeball disappears from the map forever after the player interacts with it.
I never looked up the Terrain Tags in scripts. Now I know how to make snow tiles slow down the player - just add ":must_walk" and boom! Now your new tile can annoy everyone how slow it makes the game!
Damn, this series of videos are just fabulous. I've always wanted to make my own game, but I quickly gave up due to the difficulty. Seeing your series gives me the courage to start again ! So big thanks for sharing your experience with us !
I was starting a new pokemon project but my goal was to play .nds files. Since that was not possible following this tutorial (which I don't care because it's the best tutorial I've ever seen on this topic) I decided to keep on with my game. Making a nintendo ds lite styled game with pokemon essential is really hard for me because everything seems to be made for gameboy. I just cant get my gen4 sprites and trees and other tiles right with the tile size offered in pokemon essentials. I'm dropping my project because of frustration trying to get the tileset to match the grid, but I wanted to thank you because I know now that I am able to do a pokemon game (I can write the plot, design the characters, create maps, create events, write scripts, etc.) even tho I got frustrated with that one part. Your explanation both in the screen and with your voice are very clear and I love that you go through all of the choices even if we're not using them in that moment so we don't feel lost in it and get comfortable with the whole program. Anyways, thank you again.
So cool to see some behind the scenes stuff like those moving tiles. Always wanted an entire game based on the Safari Zone style combat. Maybe I'll try and tackle this some day.
19:00 This thing I learnt recently by complete accident. It's very useful for making "shadows" for rocks that can be found on water, as if you just use the autotile like normal, the deep water circles will fuse together and it will look weird.
I would REALLY like you to go deeper into the mechanics this time. For the basic stuff, your previous playlist works fine enough. What we miss is the tutorials on the detailed stuff like scripting. This is By FAR the best essentials tutorial on Yt and it would be really cool if you teach us how to make new abilities moves and probably even how to make harder / better AI etc.
31:27 God this is so cool. Thanks for the tutorial on tilesets, I got stuck with my project because I hate working on them but watching this made me feel like picking it back.
I know a new version is out so maybe you're hesitant to continue the series. But I just want to say that I'm a new creator and your videos mean the world to me! Hope to learn more from you soon.
Have loved the series and have helped incredibly as I've jumped into tinkering around with RPGMaker XP and Essentials. Has been super fun and hopefully can work on a project to keep myself busy for a bit. Looking forward to any future parts if you continue to work on this series.
thank you thank you THANK YOU for making a new series for the new version! i just got back into Pokemon Essentials and dug up an old project idea, i’ll watch every episode you put out 🥹
I'm so happy that you're updating this series, the first version was the whole reason I was able to get into Pokemon Essentials and, now that I've updated, this new series has been just as necessary for me! Do you have plans to make episodes on adding new items, moves or abilities?
At 20:46, I felt down because what I wanted to learn the most was how to add more autotiles, since the release of v20 I wanted to know how to do it, but never understood, hope you make a video explaining the more autotile session.
Hi, amazing video as always, besides that I made a pokemon game with the help of your guide and I would love for you to try it (the game is currently in the licensed versions of the game and quite short) he game is called Pokemon watching eye you can download this form the wiki Pokemon watching eye(English)
I am so amazed. You have invested so much time to explain it so well! Thank you so much. I have a question tho.. is there a way to change one of the original games? For example to create additional routes and places? (So basically to extend a game?)
damn, i guess it's really annoying it make your own tile sets then. So, first I have to compile a bunch of 32 by 32 tiles that can be used for one thing, or if I'm lucky find one that's already complied. However, most of the already complied ones are specific so like just trees, so you'd have to manually make your own big outdoor one. Then, for stuff like ekat;s gen 3 tiles you'd have to double them in size as well? Then, you have to manually set all the tags like terrain tags? holy moly lmao. I wanted to do HGSS or BW but it seems like a massive pain. Even for gen 3 with Ekat's tiles. Luckily Ekat has some big ones but even then I have to double them and I have no idea how to do that lmao
Can I ask for you to make a video about updating everything to a new version of Essentials? Because I just got back into making it and the last time I worked on my game, I was working on v18.1 and it might be in my best interests to go on in v21
Nice tutorial series, i'm wondering about a rival with random pokemon. you made a tutorial with random pokemon encounters. is it then possible with a trainer and if you encounter the trainer again it has the pokemon from the first encounter or its evolution if the level is high in of and another random pokemon and so on?
The moment i started trying to do other things than what was explicitly shown in the tutorial it all goes off the rails -How do I encounter regional forms? (just putting Rattata_1 either in encounters via debug or in encounters.txt will only spawn vanilla rattata) -How do I have my character follow an NPC through a door? -How do I make use of game switches to alter default game settings?
There's one thing you didn't go over. I downloaded ekat's gen 3 tileset and manually double the size of one so it can be used and not be tiny, however, it shows up as an option in tilesets vut it's all white. This is probably because i used the direct gimp saved file but i don't know how to ake it a file i can use. Also, I want to import all the tags like you do with shattered might BUT shattere light is v20 and I'm on v21.1... Edit - I just had to export it haha but it still leaves the problem of having to import shattered light yet being unable to for tags Edit 2 - all of the tiles are weird though... the saturation is off and some are just white...
When will this update video be? Thankfully I dont need it currently as I started with version 21, but the wiki isnt very helpful and I'd like to be ready for anything when/if V22 comes out someday PS. if you do could you add a wee bit for those of us who added custom Pokemon already? This isnt related at all to the video's topic, but does anyone have advice for modifying/making GUIs for menus? I'm having trouble understanding drawing text and images works for scripts. If theres a doc for essentials specific methods and functions or something hook me up lmao.
Little question here, I would like to create a pokemon game because thorugh the years i designed a bunch of pokemon, also included the fairy type. Before i start creating my own game can i also add the fairy type or will there be a tutorial with adding a new type of pokemon?

I may also be a little confused on quite a lot of event commands like "text" "script" "comment" "branch" or whatever it was called i forgot, and a few others like what's the difference between doing "/bVery well" for text and just doing it without the "/b" ? I watched the videos and all but i'm still a bit confused on certain things
/b just makes the text blue, I get what your saying since the the tutorial hasn't been continued after this episode there is still alot of questions open

um i need a script command tutorial
there really needs to be some sort of repository that keeps a list of ALL script commands that can be called via "script" in events
there's a few extra things i might not have got throughout this series but one of them is making events where you stand on a certain tile it activates a character to walk over to you and begin talking like I guess a "story start" tile? I watched the videos and all but i'm still a bit confused on certain things
/b just makes the text blue, I get what your saying since the the tutorial hasn't been continued after this episode there is still alot of questions open
Can I ask why you are redoing the How to Make A Pokemon Game series?
Just a quick unrelated question, but is there a way for a partner trainer to not disappear when they leave you. Would it be possible for them to go back to there original location?
when is the next episode coming out?
Is there no way to use multiple tilesets on one map?
I'm making a game based off Australia and id like coral to appear under the water, is there a way to see whats under the water? I was just gonna have all the water except near the shore be deep but can i either set some of the parallax map be translucent and have coral under it? Or would each of those tiles have to be edited specifically?
when next episode....?
More tutorial please ? 🥺👉👈
im waiting for pokemon followers to update to v21
can a map only use a single tileset? for example, if the maps standard tileset im using it for is the Outside, can i not use a tile from the Graveyard tile set?
wheres the next video bro
Does the box system that is the PC already work when you download the game? Or do you have to do something to make it work?
