I remember when they opened up in the mid-70's. It was my favorite place to pick up good grindz :) I loved the cold kook-su. Their kim-chee sides were awesome too. Nice to know they are stil thriving 50-years plus ❤
Back in the 50s and early 60s I used to go to a restaurant called Dot’s in wahiawa. They had good food and on a street by the bus station there was a drive in restaraunt I think it was called toppers. After every leilehua home football game a bunch of people would go there in their cars and hang out. They served saimin at that restaurant among other food like hamburgers. Man I miss my hometown.

NICE!!! Ross and JoAnn of Shige's are classmates of mines. Been going here for YEARS!!! They are hands down the BEST!!! Saimin, Cheeseburger, BBQ Stick DA LOCAL Boy Special. DONG Yang, even though diff. owners, where my dad took us for our 1st ever taste of Korean Food. Use to get either the Meat Jhun or Bi Bim Bap!!! So HONE!!! Keep up the GREAT work Amanda and Felix!!!
Hi. Thanks for coming by my parents saimin stand. The broth is our own. My parents created their own broth that’s why it may taste different. Nakai saimin was my dads grandparents place. My dad always had a dream of opening his own saimin stand. My parents still go every morning to make the saimin. The hamburger is homemade also, it’s made every morning also. No, we don’t use oyster sauce on the fried saimin.
Mahalo Kris for the clarification and information! We truly enjoyed our meal at Shige’s and were always happy to support hard working local businesses🤙🏻 much aloha!
great job you two! i am nick from vancouver. lucky me, i am coming to ewa beach for the month of february staying at my buddy’s house 3 blocks from shiros. i have never had saimein! what floor should i get! i love food! lol!
Went to Shige's today for the first time, everything was just like you described, so ono, but I'm kicking myself for only getting a single burger Patty, next time double for sure
Thank you for taking us along on your Wahiawa foodie adventure. All of the food from Dong Yang's looked so amazing as well as the dessert drinks and waffle cone treats. Love it when Davon joins in and gives her detailed descriptions. Mahalo for sharing the food culture of Wahiawa!!
Amanda’s description of the “shockingly good” fried saimin is enough to entice me to try it! Going to have to add Shigei’s on our food list for June! Mahalo for the foodie tips. ♥️
Love y’all’s content. I feel like I’m right there with y’all back in Hawaii exploring and trying all the delicious foods. Keep it up 👍🏼, this is how I’ll survive this nasty Oregon winter.
I love whenever you guys come down this way (I live in Wahiawa) because there are some spots here and in pearlridge/aiea that I never knew existed until you guys mentioned it. I’m definitely going to try the saimin and the boba place very soon.
I've tried practically EVERY known saimin place in Hawaii, all the big guns - Hamura, 49ers, Palace, Jane's Fountain, Old Saimin House, etc. They're all good in their own special way. BUT, when it comes to local style saimin, if I could eat at only ONE saimin place for the remainder of my life, it would be SHIGE'S hands down! Any Italian will tell you that it's ALL ABOUT THE NOODLES. That a pasta sauce should only enhance the noodles, not over-power it. Well, it's the same for saimin. And Shige's got the best noodles. They make their own. They no buy from Sun Noodle like most places. They make their own fresh noodles. And their broth is perfect. It enhances their beautiful and delicious noodles. ON TOP OF THAT, the Shige's staff is da best! They give great service and they're always friendly. They treat you like family. Real old school Hawaii restaurant feeling at Shige's. I only go there maybe four times per year, but they still remember us. Best saimin, best staff!!
What a busy week!! Finally got to watch this weeks video. Beyond Boba!!! Let them know we will be there in May! Always good to see the The Von. How’s Lucy? Keep it up Amanda and Felix! Where’s hungry! Mike and Marnie
Originally starting in Haleiwa as Nakai's, occupying the space that Cafe Haleiwa now occupies, Shige's Saimin has been part of Wahiawa business community since the mid-1980s. Dong Yang Inn has been Wahiawa landmark since 1970s & was/is known for their Large, Healthy portions. Can't really comment on Beyond Boba coz have never been!-lol... Keep Dem Videos Coming!
@@AmandaFelixEats...Next time, gotta check out 3 Mexican, 2 chicken places, Tanya's Pies & Sunnyside. Gimme a buzz next time & let's plan it out! (Aye only live close to Tanya's!)-lol

Aloha Amanda, Felix and Yvonne. I was finally able to watch this video this morning (my Mom was in the ER yesterday) and all of the food looked so yummy (it actually made me want to eat beef again). I really enjoy you showing places in specific areas of Oahu to try out. As always mahalo for your great videos!
So sorry to hear that about your mom! Hope she’s recovering well🙏🏼 sending healing and positive energy💫💞 mahalo for watching and supporting us! We hope you can try it out when you come down🤤

I've been wanting to try authentic meat jeon since watching Korean cooking mukbangs; even tried making it myself but it was too bland. Looking forward to trying Dong Yang's on our next trip. Maybe pick some up from Dong Yang on the way to have the Saimin. Thank you for another entry on our 'must-try' Oahu food list.

🥰Really love going along with you on your food tours all over Hawaii. I have only tried Saimin from Kings here on the island of Guam. That's exactly my lineup from Shige's since the mid 80's! Occasionally I would order the Loco Moco and mac salad. Dong Yang from the early 80 when everything was under $10 for meals. Back then Korean stores was scarce in that area, so I would by my kimchi and banchan's from there and still do. It used to be service, I guess since COVID it stopped. #17 combo and Bibimbop, Korean Style! Keep your awesome food adventures coming!
