It's awesome I would've done it to I'm mean it's just a toy right now she's not a tool yet so might as well treat it like one and have your fun if it hasn't broke yet with a smile on your face that sounds like a future you problem 😅
I’m dying to hear the update on this. I know Matt prefers gas for the off-road rigs but an LBZ / Allison combo with the military axles would be killer. Imagine if all three axles had steering ? At least two winches on the deck with two more on the sides, one in front and one wedged between the frame in back. I imagine a wheel lift would get wrecked off-road. Can’t wait to see this project from start to finish ! Be safe.
I’m pretty sure that was already the plan for those axles. You may have noticed that the derby car was sitting in the tow yard and it wasn’t already destroyed so I think it’s safe to ASSume that the potato truck was already in the yard when the axles were delivered. Just a hunch. 🤷🏻♂️

He seems to be great guy, with a great sense of humor, I hope that dig on Jaymie's dad was just good natured ribbing...if not maybe an apology?, need to treat family with respect. If it was a joke he would get, which could be very likely, no worries.
When you started the mileage question it reminded me of a trip I had to make in a similar truck with a box on it back in 93. I was thinking 6. Drove from Yuba City Ca to Austin Tx. 2 full days of driving. Top speed of 50-55 depending on the grade. Averaged about 5 mpg. Thanks for sharing your trip. Brought back some memories.
Killer truck , my thoughts would be to shorten the wheelbase about two feet. Put a roll back on it and a front axle and transfer case . Plus it will ride much better with some weight on it . Thanks for the great content .
Great video. The title says 10x10 but it is really a 6x4 (6 wheel positions and 4 of them drive). Will be interesting to see what you do with it. I'll be watching.

The “2speed” shifter on the axle is actually the power divider lock…. A 2 speed is on the bottom right side of the diff and it will be on both axles…. It’s going to be a fun build!!

I'm a big fan of old school trucks. You have proven that you can build truly amaising rigs by compleatly changing most things around. I would love to see just what you can do keeping the origional engine and transmision! I bet you some people ask, how many off-road recovery can you watch. I say all of them. It’s not a recovery it’s an adventure. Thanks Matts off-road recovery and crew.
The best part of the video was Matt's face when they first took off down the dirt trail and the truck was bouncing like crazy. It's that moment right before the radio fell on the dog that Matt knew he had made a mistake. Peanut also decided that it would be better to sit next to Tom as talkyboxes to the dome are not in the interests of a goodest girl.

That was problem solving at its best. Analyze how and why it went out, find a problem and repair it with tools and equipments what are available. Excellent job sir!😎

Gosh it’s so good and never the need for cussing, I love that part I truly do.
Like the military truck you once drove this truck would be a 6x6 you would need another 2 axels to be a 10x10 just for informational purposes. Just heard it has no drive to the front axle so it would be a 4x4 based on the number of axles not tires.
"They shorten easier than they stretch, thats for sure" 😂 Just what you expect to hear in a rural hardware shop the world over. Off Road rollback sounds about the best use if combined with those mrap axels and a suspension upgrade.. (probably too stiff for this vs the weight they were designed for but maybe not) You can tell peanut isn't used to something that doesnt ride the bumps so well 😂
I don't think I've ever cringed, or thought OMG, these 2 should not be left alone, and on the next episode, putting a shift kit or rebuilding the Bronco transmission. Thanks for the journey and well done!
A while back the guys bought some big independent military axles I think they would be good on this truck and a mats las swap and trans swap! Along with a flat bead/recovery bead
Yes! The Bombee’s in the shop! I love the episodes working on it. Looking forward to it. Also, this episode was so fun. I love Tom and all he brings to this channel/ your team.
I think a lot of engines sound nice, but this one is on another level! ... When idling, anyway ... and the high-speed noise cleared up with the new points.
I love this new Chevy spud truck! Can't wait to see it with the military axles jefe bought for this project! Jaymie to the rescue and Alan from Yankem rope's bringing out the points and condenser. This is going to be awesome! Matt and Tom are working well together. Jefe got a good workout on the new Bronco!
I’m building a 1968 C50. I have a 5 speed transmission w/single speed rear end. Top end around 45 MPH. Planning on putting a NV4500 Transmission with overdrive, if that doesn’t give me enough top end a different rear end. Matt I’m now adding you to the list of RUclipsrs that I’m am giving full credit for influencing me to build this truck.
You won't be able to steer with locks on the steer axle, that's why the Mfgs don't offer steer axle locks on modern 4x4's. I've driven 6x4 (no power steer axle) cement mixers with both rear axle locked in and it took 3 football fields to get it to turn, with 4 sets of dual tires pushing it straight ahead. So with the mixers, you don't lock in the rear axles until you get stuck and can't move. Then you lock them in to get unstuck (hopefully), get moving again, and unlock them on the move so you can steer until you hit the next bog. Even with the locking rears you usually end up hooked to a heavy chain to a front end loader or excavator... Have fun!
Over time we have seen many of Matt's accomplices come and go, but Matt and Tom are two peas in a pot. Such good relationships are a rare treasure. Hope it lasts forever.
We pretty much know what's sort of going to happen with this truck, and I'm pretty sure that little rock ledge won't even slow you down. What a fun episode !Thanks for bringing us along.Happy Father's Day Guys !
But that LONNNNNG frame is going to need some serious stiffening and strengthening to do what they want to do with it. Spud trucks weren't built for rock bashing. It'll be very interesting to see what Matt comes up with, we know it'll be epic! 😂👍
@@awkwarddudeI heard Matt mention they weren't going to use the frame when they were listing all parts that they weren't going to use, so I'm guessing they bought this truck to use the cab like they did for the Heavy Wrecker
I went to HighSchool in Layton. I really appreciate yall making these videos around my old stomping ground. Have not seen Utah since 2018. It brings back memories for sure.
Miss seeing Trevor on the channel, but Matt / Tom have really hit the right duo sync for this type of content. You can tell Matt really enjoys working with Tom
Oh-My-Gosh, this was one of the funniest videos ever. Matt and Tom are total comedians and their banter is comedy gold. I loved the "Why didn't we bring tools", "Because we never bring tools", "Oh, yeah". I was laughing out loud so often. This video was very entertaining. Thanks for the great entertainment.
I love watching all your vids. Matt and Tom are a great combo. I love the doubts and not doubts about being able to do a certain thing. This was a wonderful video.
Name the new truck the Big Blue Spud. Matt was in the same predicament as the folks he rescues-"we shouldn't have done that" 😅 Just big kids and a good dog out having fun! You guys are too much fun! Stay safe and GOD bless
This thing is badass, and it's rad that it already runs decently off the bat so y'all can just improve it rather than working from scratch essentially. It definitely has huge potential.
We stopped in Pocatello, Idaho. The people there were so nice! We ate at a Sizzler Restaurant and it was great. We went to a Tire store and got some repairs on the car. The guy there was really honest and helpful. I agree Idaho was a very friendly state.
Would be cool to see yall put the 6x6 axles on that truck and maybe make it an off road roll back like someone suggested! Also interesting site seeing the bronco pulling the spud truck, surprised yall dont grab the off road tow truck. Lol😊
With the amount of multiple piece toolkits Matt buys on trips like this he should've had enough for a basic vehicle toolkit per vehicle. Hell, even a quality multitool could work wonders like I've found using my Gerber MP800. I wouldn't be suprised if Matt donates the kits he's bought to various people...
So cool that you have friends like Alan that will help you, as you help so many. More people like you all would sure make a difference in this big BAD world..... Keep up the good work
What a killer episode! Can’t wait to see the build. I’ve gotta say, the team’s ability to thrive in sub conditions is super awesome. Keep it up and keep sending it!
As I posted over on Robby's channel, I feel you, Robby, Paul, Rory, and all of your crews are totally insane in a good way. You guys know how to have fun, but you get very serious when you need to get a job done, whether it is recovery, bodywork, or other demanding work. My hat is off to you guys. Of course, I live in relatively flat South(ern New) Jersey so you doing rock crawling and transversing almost non-existent trails seems like craziness to me. There isn't much recovery work in my area, but people do get stuck out on the beaches on the Atlantic Ocean at times, or the various sandy dirt roads that crisscross this part of the state. Stay safe and keep producing these great videos.
That's funny about baling wire ! When in outback Australia (lots of Red sand ) You see old fences 4x4 people have used to tie up this and that ! Its always handy
I am definitely looking forward to the build series on the spud truck. Hopefully next time you go test the truck you can drive it out of the yard and drive it back in and not be towed back in
This spud truck would make a cool halftrack. We also know that you got 3 MRAP axels so you should build a six-by-six rollback recovery rig. Oh and it should have all wheels steering.
This would be an awesome off-road roll back. Roar in over the tunes. Pull the side by side up. Fly back out. You could also make it an 8x8 and put another axle behind the cab!
I’m thinking instead of (or in addition to) a roll back just put a crane arm on it so you don’t have to worry if they roll, steer, are upside down, etc.
Could this Spud truck be an off-road rotator or an off-road rollback or some strange contraption that only Matt and Tom know what is? Either way, it will become a monster! I wonder if it will stay baby blue, go all yellow or a mix of the two? Can't wait to see this truck done! Matt, just remember, this series of videos has to be as awesome as the Heavy Wrecker or more awesome.
The word technology derives from the Greek word techne meaning art, skill, or know-how. The MORR team are technicians in this ancient sense of the word. I marvel with envy how Matt and Tom maintain such equanimity in a breakdown and even seem to relish it as an intellectually stimulating puzzle whereas my world comes to an end if I have to pull over because I barely know how to pop my hood and use my roadside assistance app. Thank you for letting me vicariously partake in your mechanical achievements!
Geee!! I could imagine the Spud Truck as a 6 x 6 roll back tow truck with 60 inch off road tyres, a 25 Litre engine and an 18 speed auto-manual road ranger gearbox with suitable transfer case and multi- speed differentials to suit fast highway and off road speeds with torque to suit.
Even though Paul is building one I vote building and Off-Road roll back as well. I’d like to see one with a hopped up diesel and I also think it be super awesome if you stretched the cab and made it into a crew cab of some sort. Now I realize that might not be feasible since it’s some pretty involved metal work but you’d have room for the crew and dogs and something really unique. There’s a company in Idaho the specializes in stretching that era truck called Rtech Fabrication if you wanted an idea of what it look like.
I'm suddenly remembering 3 very large sets of axles Tom bought while Matt was away. Now Tom has Matt going to Idaho to get this truck...I see who the real master mind is on this one lol

I like the idea of it having a lot of passenger space that seems to always be an issue on recoveries
Definitely looking forward to seeing this on those Oshkosh independent axles.
35:40 I laughed out aloud to the sweet sounds of mechanical disaster :) I love how Matt just keeps going, having fun limping that truck home. Great video and looking forwards to this build.
Love it! Training our whole lives to read the gas gauge! Have seen the last of this build, but just now discovered the start of the project. 😁
Can’t wait to see how this rig turns out! At least it started off as the right color 😉
Get well soon Holly
So this truck is the main reason why tomtom bought that massive military axle...awesome 🤘🏻
3 massive axles XD
@@gremlin282 yeah..i wonder where they want to put that massive axle, now i got the answer
Climbing rock walls with spud trucks is why we love Matt's Off Road Recovery. They create their own recoveries when there isn't any other ones!
That was problem solving at its best. Analyze how and why it went out, find a problem and repair it with tools and equipments what are available. Excellent job sir!😎
Well, here we go again! Anybody getting tired of watching Matt and team build the most incredible off road stuff? I THOUGHT NOT! GO Matt GO!
I've been saying it since you brought him on onboard! TomTom is one of the best tools in the shed🤘 it's meant respectfully... He's an asset in any situation.
I loved that episode, I was actually looking forward to Matt’s Summer series! 🎉 it’s cold down here in Australia and I absolutely love MORR , we actually love our half hr each week it’s seriously great , Matt I hope you guys make a squillion and keep just having fun , just do it your way, well you do anyhow .
"They shorten easier than they stretch, thats for sure"
😂 Just what you expect to hear in a rural hardware shop the world over.
Off Road rollback sounds about the best use if combined with those mrap axels and a suspension upgrade.. (probably too stiff for this vs the weight they were designed for but maybe not)
You can tell peanut isn't used to something that doesnt ride the bumps so well 😂
I don't think I've ever cringed, or thought OMG, these 2 should not be left alone, and on the next episode, putting a shift kit or rebuilding the Bronco transmission. Thanks for the journey and well done!
A while back the guys bought some big independent military axles I think they would be good on this truck and a mats las swap and trans swap! Along with a flat bead/recovery bead
what happened to this build?
Check the channel again!
Yes! The Bombee’s in the shop! I love the episodes working on it. Looking forward to it. Also, this episode was so fun. I love Tom and all he brings to this channel/ your team.
watching yall has inspired me so much to try and learn more about working on vehicles, it truly amazes me the knowledge you guys have
6x6 rollback is gonna be sweet. If only there were some MRAP axles laying around
That'll be a great fit for those military axles, add a flatbed and you won't need trailers anymore in the desert
Yes this
You won't be able to steer with locks on the steer axle, that's why the Mfgs don't offer steer axle locks on modern 4x4's.
Great call
Two peas in a pod
@@rogersayer5714LOL, yes peas grow in a pod .....😂 but we kinda get the OP's intent!
@@j.e.honiball1327 that's a possibility I'm sure
I just love Tom’s sense of humor. He and Matt play well off of each other!
that duo is pretty rock solid
You are joking he is a yes man. Spoils the show yep I have unsubscribed
@@noelkerr1615that's too bad won't be the same without you
@@noelkerr1615 wtf are u talking about... they complement each other so well, in the shop and on camera
Yeah toms gotta blow him or something lol😂
Oh-My-Gosh, this was one of the funniest videos ever. Matt and Tom are total comedians and their banter is comedy gold. I loved the "Why didn't we bring tools", "Because we never bring tools", "Oh, yeah". I was laughing out loud so often. This video was very entertaining. Thanks for the great entertainment.
I love watching all your vids. Matt and Tom are a great combo. I love the doubts and not doubts about being able to do a certain thing. This was a wonderful video.
Flashbacks of an old C60 Line truck a company I worked for had. I hated the days I'd have to work on pole lights with that thing. 50 mph IS top speed
HEY! GOOOOOOD MORRning and thumbs UP to Matt and Crew! 👍, Happy Fathers day to all Dads ! 🎉🎊
WOW!!!! NUMBER 1!!!!! YAY!!!!
@@JanelleVocate-Ames 😲 Lucky ! LOL
@@richardthomas1743 no you're not, you try so much so it's a skill!!!! I say so.
@@JanelleVocate-Ames LOL , that and a lot of luck when a channel has 1.5 million subs!
Lol😊
"why didn't we bring tools?". "we never bring tools" Matt nods in understanding.... Sums up MORR standard operating procedures 😂
That beast is SWEET guys ! What an adventure and thanks for bringing us along.
So cool that you have friends like Alan that will help you, as you help so many. More people like you all would sure make a difference in this big BAD world..... Keep up the good work
Love to see Matt consistently building bigger and better wackier and wilder off-road rigs
That's what they are, I forgot! But that's right!
Don't make recoveries too easy on yourselves, we like to watch you all struggle a little bit. 😂😂😂
Agreed. I do like the builds too though.
They just have to make them even more awesome. Get a chinook just airlift them out.
But in the process of having so many different rigs, they will always struggle remembering to put fuel in it! Lol
Remember when Matt hated winches? Oh boy. He has changed for the better.
The work environment you have is amazing, great professionals with amazing attitude. Congratulations from Portugal!
I need more Tom and Matt in my life. You guys are the modern day Bosom Buddies.
I think those huge axles that Tom bought would look good under that, make it the Worlds largest off road roll back.
Tracks on the rear tandems would be pretty awesome 🤩
Oh man a freaking half track! Genius!
Much Bueno my good sir!
😅😅😅 several laugh out loud moments! You guys can fix anything with almost nothing! Can’t wait to see Matt’s spud truck vision.
Great episode
That Bronco sounded way better with the stock exhaust
For real
He just finished the wrecker and has the next project ready? I am so stoked
Gotta love it! Great builds and wicked content 👍🏻
Content must be made.
Well, gotta keep those views up and more youtube money will come in
Well Tom-Tom bought those monster military axles. Gotta put em under something
Business is good?
Even though Paul is building one I vote building and Off-Road roll back as well. I’d like to see one with a hopped up diesel and I also think it be super awesome if you stretched the cab and made it into a crew cab of some sort. Now I realize that might not be feasible since it’s some pretty involved metal work but you’d have room for the crew and dogs and something really unique.
There’s a company in Idaho the specializes in stretching that era truck called Rtech Fabrication if you wanted an idea of what it look like.
Can't have a diesel around Matt, how is he going to run out of gas when it doesn't use gas?
@@monkeywithawrench27 he might learn real fast if he did switch cause if you know anything about diesels running out of it is not fun!
You guys get to do the coolest stuff. That truck did way better than I expected out there. Keep it coming and I wish I could join you.
