    Hi Sam - the two foot pedals are the accelerator and clutch. Braking is applied via the brake lever between the driver seat and engine cover. The gearbox is a 3 speed and reverse gearbox with an additional reversing lever to allow full speed in either direction. The exhaust you mention on the back is actually a holder for a jig that allows the Wickham to be turned. The one we use on the Isle of WIght steam railway doesn’t have this. We have a rear view mounted external mirror which we use for travelling backwards, alongside facing backward to see where we’re going. Forward facing is on the up line towards Ryde. The rear axle is a chain driven affair. Maximum speed is 25 mph although we don’t get anywhere near that - what with the noise, sway, and limited suspension, 15 mph is more than enough. If propelling a trailer this speed is reduced accordingly.
    When in BR use it was known to top out at 45 mph and it was donated to the steam railway requiring repairs - the chassis finally gave out last year and the running gear was used in a spare we procured.
    The model is very accurate. If sound fitted it needs to have the passengers shouting as there’s no soundproofing.
    Keep up the good work.

    @Simon-Davis Год назад +42

    A couple of cast whitemetal crew members will help the running by leaps and bounds, you should be able to nearly double the weight of the model which should help it become a bit less sensitive to dirty track as well as make it look a lot more realistic.

  • @idiot-cd6pl
    @idiot-cd6pl Год назад +9

    Being such an open model for me the most glaring omission is no driver or crew, if some die-cast crew and maybe a tool-box and tools were added that would not only add some weight to the trolley, but then it would be prefect, but it's still very cute as-is.. Thanks for showing such an unusual model.

    The trolly reminds me of the motor cars/track speeders we have here in the states. Another fantastic review. Good to see another model that you now have in both O and double O scales.

    • @williamsquires3070
      @williamsquires3070 Год назад +2

      Yes, and there’s a good variety in the prototype, so this would look just as home on an O-gauge layout set in North America, as it would over across the pond. Keep in mind that the prototype carried (usually) - at most - 2 of the flat wagons, often one in front and one behind. The track MOW personnel would load one wagon with empty buckets to throw the old track spikes and tie plates in, and buckets full of new, replacement spikes and tie plates on the other flat wagon. The buckets were almost always rusty, beat-up, and tarnished, so finding some O-scale buckets and painting them oxide red would make these more realistic! 🙂 I’ve also seen them with two wagons, both behind, as well as with only one wagon for carrying coolers full of water for the crews.

    Ellis Clark is quite generous with the catalogs and brochures when you order a model from them!
    I am surprised this model does not come with a driver figure, especially since the vehicle is so open. Vechicels like these were common in America from 1920-1980 and were called Speeders.

    Decent review here Sam, a really. Nice looking model from the looks of it, I know it’s o gauge but to be honest to motorise something like this is quite amazing, even the Bachman OO one being motorised is quite amazing.

    I live in Skipton, and Ellis Clark are no more than fifteen minutes' walk from my home. If you are in Skipton, I would recommend a visit; you will get a warm welcome. The O gauge stock they carry is excellent. I wish I had the room to do O gauge. However they do have a stock of smaller guages and I have bought a loco and two wagons for my OO9/HOe layout. Well worth a diversion into Skipton. 😀

    I think the unidentified piece on the rear face of the trolley is the pivoting point for turning the vehicle around rather than an exhaust. This unslotted, was placed underneath and the trolley turntable rail sections which were also carried on board were then fitted allowing reversing direction with the driver still able to .control progress without having to look behind. There are images on Google of the process and of the parts that fit onto the pivot.

Ooops! 😳You said they were made with Ford Engines, Whats wrong with Austin Martin Engine's they did make the Original Austin Mini and it was a small engine that could have fit into that engine compartment? Wickham wouldn't have had to pay Import tax on it either just saying. Sam, I think you'll have to make a Piano to fit in it's Trailer.🚞😁🧀Cheers!
