The jaggy graphics was only possible because this game was one of the very first Sony PS2 hardware developed games along with the conversion of Tekken Tag Tournament. If Namco had made another PS2 Ridge Racer game say by 2005 only for PS2 then the graphics would look dramatically different and massively improved however Microsoft pushed their surprise next gen jump and got Namco to make a Ridge Racer game for xbox which was a bad move. Also the other problem is Fast and Furious films influenced most devs to add nitrous to racing games and unfortunately Namco added it to RR6 which was also a bad move because it could have been added in a different and later in the game progress way.
It was a really cool cabinet in North America. It didn't have motion or anything, but the two-seat sit-down version has a beautiful bezel. I loved playing it at the movie theater. I do not think it was super popular because it got really inexpensive in the early 2010s. Seemed like no one could even sell one for $1500, so I worry many were destroyed.
That's probably because that screencap was taken during game testing. Then, they decided to reduce the opponent count by two. Like the back of the box for Super Mario Bros. 3 contains some photos of levels not in the final game.
i love that low rez jaggyness, anyone else?
Yep, wouldn’t have it any other way 😂

Hopefully this version will be playable on the Play! Namco System 2x6 emulator
I didn't know Ridge Racer 5 was also on arcade.
It actually came out to arcades after ps2 game release

Video footage is great but you should never change the aspect ratio... keep it original to 4:3 next time.
And emulate lan play too

How did the screen end up in 16:9? All the times I played this in an arcade the monitors were 4:3.
I'm using a gbsc upscaler. It lets me to stretch the image
@@felizgatoarcades5313 you shouldn't do that :)
backwards compatible ps3 does this as well, looks aawesome properly upscaled

Do you get to select different tracks per stage?
Yes
ps2 14 opponents , arcade 12 opponent, screenschot on back of the ps2 box show 16 opponents...

This looks like crap for a Namco Arcade game, it looks like it's running on a base PS2 😂
