    RE: WAS OL - I'm surprised to hear Mina thinks this issue hasn't been talked about because in two weeks since the draft, it's been all I hear about. And not just locally, there's a TON of national figures talking about it. It's the main criticism leveraged against Peters' draft. And I'm not saying they're entirely wrong...heck Peters himself told you he thinks the line needs an upgrade by his attempts to trade up to get one in the first round. But I will tell you, this is being overblown.
    First, the WAS OL wasn't as bad as people think last year. What Eric Bienemy did to this offense last year was coaching malpractice. The Commies lead the league in pass attempts, were dead last in rush attempts despite being 28th in net y/a passing and 7th in rushing y/a. Running plays were basically trick plays for this team. EB did this despite a de facto rookie QB and an an o-line that was seen as a weakness before the season. By the second half of the year, the team flat out quit on Bienemy.
    The two biggest problem areas weren't actually OT. Wylie and Leno were certainly mediocre, but their PFF grades show that's really what they were - mediocre not bad. And Lucas was actually a very good pass protector, he just offers nothing in the run game and is now the incumbent LT. Center and left guard were bigger issues all year. Gates wasn't setting protections and slides correctly, and neither Charles nor Paul particularly deserved to be in the NFL. They added Biadasz at center to set protections like a competent pro, and Allegretti is a career backup, but he's better than Charles or Paul. My point is not that this is the 1991 Hogs, but that it's a unit with a higher floor than last year while ALSO being unlikely to be set up to fail like Bienemy set them up to fail last year.
    Then there's Brandon Coleman. Have you seriously looked at this pick? Why does EVERYONE think he's a guard? He's got long enough arms, he's plenty athletic. Those are the two most common reasons people assume Ts have to go inside. The reason seems to be that public evaluators are looking at 2023 tape where Coleman was gutting out a high ankle sprain and kicked inside to cover for other injuries. His best year was 2022 when he was LT exclusively. I'm not saying he's Joe Jacoby, but we all need to stop saying they didn't pick a tackle. They did. He could fail just like any pick can fail, but they DID add a tackle. One that has high football character and is a plus-athlete (which seems to be their type).

    • @HTTR.Redskins
      @HTTR.Redskins 4 месяца назад +2

      Are you serious? The center is your QB on the offensive line. Nick Gates was terrible. He's so bad he was cut after his first year on a three year contract. Nobody picked him up. The left guard play was not good either. Wylie was terrible in the beginning and was getting destroyed. Charles Leno had a bad year and that may have been injury related. Cornelius was awful filling in. One of the worst NFL offensive lines.

      Stupid response. You need to take the time to compare it to 31 teams. You are aware that there is a reason you drafted #2 overall. The Washington Commanders is a terrible team. You can blame EB and Sam all you want but Nick Gates was beaten like a drum by Dexter Lawrence and was terrible. Btw, you need a journal to vent your b.s. PFF notoriously hated Sam Howell because he was ball’n despite terrible circumstances. Their offensive line grades are unrealistic.

    One day you guys are going to realize that the Falcons did not like McCarthy and that’s why he wasn’t an option. You see these QBs are interchangeable according to their age and draft grade but NFL coaches do not. Maybe Howie Roseman looks at media consensus and just picks according to that but most teams have their own board and clear preference for certain players.

    I understand the sentiment, but I think it's incorrect to say Washington did nothing on the offensive line. More like you aren't a big fan of the moves they made. Which is fair. To say they did nothing is flat out wrong. They will have three different starters Week 1 this year compared to last year.
    At RG, Cosmi was actually one of the better guards in the NFL last year. He was just a good player amongst a group of bad ones. I'm kinda hoping they resign him. At center, they signed Biadasz who was substantially better than the disaster of Nick Gates or his painfully average backup. At LG, Allegretti was good as a reserve for the chiefs and deserves a shot at starting. He also has some of the last regime's draft picks to compete against on the off chance they figured it out. Part of me thinks that might be why they ignored interior OL in the draft. At some point, you have to see if dudes already on a rookie contract can figure it out (more Stromberg than Paul).
    Where the pain really belongs is tackle. Wylie is kinda stuck at RT because of his contract. And the tackle market pretty much sucked in FA so there wasn't really a viable fix. I would also guess they were looking more for LT in the draft.
    Speaking of which, Cornelius Lucas isn't bad, he's just not really built to start long term. They did draft Brandon Coleman this year. He's listed as a LT and that's what they are trying to do. That's their plan for the year. His best season was at LT even if he played G last year due to injuries. If it turns out he can't do it, then they shift him to guard (and he might bump Allegretti or they may let Cosmi go next year) or I guess they could move him to RT. We will might can figure out how that's going if they sign a Donovan Smith or Bahktiari during TC. There's also Braedon Daniels, but that one may not pan out so well.
    You can't force a draft pick. I knew LT would get dicey the second the Chargers took Alt. If they had taken Nabers, a tackle or two might have slid down to the second round. You also can't make a team trade down. Kinda like how everyone and their mother wanted the Patriots to.
    It's not the most ideal plan. But to say there's nothing is unfair IMO.

  • @EJofKC
    @EJofKC 4 месяца назад +2

    Of all of the round 1 QB draft picks I think the majority of them will be better off not starting:
    - Caleb and the Bears: Caleb will start and I think that's the right call for Caleb & the Bears
    - Jayden and the Commies: Jayden will start and I think that's NOT the right call, but unfortunately the ONLY option they have
    - Drake and the Pats: Drake COULD start and I think if he sat behind Brissett that would be the best scenario for him and the Pats. Jacoby is a solid journeyman QB who can keep a team divisionally relevant. Drake is pretty raw and could really benefit from taking a back seat for the majority of the season.
    - Michael and the Falcons: woof... Penix should be starting and he won't be and that whole thing is so backwards over there... I've heard all the angles about it and I just can't reconcile it... alas it allowed the Bears to get Odunze so not upset about it.
    - J.J. and the Vikings: Could start, but I think would be better for both him and the Vikings to sit behind Darnold for a hand full of games next season. Everyone believes in O'Connell's offensive play calling, which leads me to believe that generally competent QB play should benefit. The NFC north is just looking so stacked this year and having J.J. forced to go up against some pretty tough defenses with the Lions and Bears, I don't know - think he's better sitting.
    - Bo and the Broncos: Bo will start and the Broncos had to reach for Bo because of their draft positioning, and lack of a second round pick, I think they could have gotten a trade back potentially, but it was way too risky without a 2. Anyway, I think Bo's as ready as he's gonna be and with his on-time style and Payton's desire to run those kinds of play it could work out. Also Bo getting to throw back to his old teammate in Troy Franklin from Oregon was a good pickup.

    20:00 I believe the Commanders gets a bad wrap because of Sam Howell. When JB played, the oline looked way different and better. They didn't want to play him in fear of winning a game or 2. It worked out because we got the #2 pick. I believe they will be better this year with Jayden Daniels. They threat of the run/scramble will keep the pass rush at bay.

And you know what I am so tired of people talking about the cowboys situation when you can just be patient and let things take care of them slef and the way I see it Dak Prescott is so trash to the point where they should change the laws of the quarter back contract and make it to were you have to led your team to the playoffs and win playoff game to get a better contract nagetion and if you get hurt and miss a huge amount of games you should not be able to get a new contract fax I am so tired of people getting paid who miss more than four games. One more thing before I go let give it up for the jets who seems to be the only team who got the memo and did a exalent job in Free agentncy and got ervey thing that was needed for the quarter back. This will all be on Daniels and the coaches to figure out.

      I’m sure the Commanders will be drafting in the top 5 again next year. They have new coaches, a new offense, a rookie QB who is downgrading in talent from LSU to Washington and about 60% roster turnover year to year. This is a rebuilding year for the Commanders.

    Reality check: PFF had Baker Mayfield and Justin Fields ranked higher than Caleb Williams coming out. Might want to tap the breaks... or maybe slam them for now

      Neither Baker or Fields had the talent around them as rookies. The talent upgrade from a terrible USC team to the Bears is significant.

      @paulieprinceton- his TB Lloyd averaged 7.1 ypc and like 17 yards per reception. Not to mention the competition he’ll face in the league will be much better

    People bitch about Penix, but developing QBs has worked ok for Green Bay.

      Yeah only the packers don’t draft 24-year-old QBs with top 10 picks right after paying a guy 100 million when they don’t have any defense

      Different circumstances though. GB had a well established premium QB in place, so bringing a rookie along seemed natural as most of the offense was in place and coaching could spend more time with the rookie. With the Falcons they now have two new QBs in the building that will need the coach’s time as they are learning a new offense, new terminology, and both probably feel they can win the starting job. I’m not expecting Cousins to be the most gracious veteran when it comes to helping along Penix’s development.

      Difference is, Love is going into his 4th season, and now a starter but just one year older than Penix is. Penix because of his age needs to start now.

      With QBs playing now until they’re 40, why does he have to play now?

    • @O-D-X
      @O-D-X 4 месяца назад

      @@ttaylor758 Even now most QBs flame out in the mid 30s. Only the true superstars play to 40, and only one played much beyond that age. Also, the biggest reason for drafting a QB in round 1 is to take advantage of them being on their rookie contract, especially if they are ready to play. And now no matter whether Penix is ready or not, he will sit a minimum of 2 years, maybe up to 4 years.

    May Daniel’s and William’s are all busts. William’s might not be. But his ceiling is fields 2.0. Can’t play in a system for anything. Just runs around and chucks it. Great for the playground. Not so much for nfl.

    Commanders are in year 1 of a complete overhaul starting with owner, GM, HC and a 50% turnover of last year's roster. Not filling every hole with all pro players should be expected, but not in this media landscape. 🫠

      Seems like many Commander fans believe the Commanders could be pretty good this upcoming season. I think it’s silly, but there is nothing like preseason optimism. Haha! You seem to be realistic.
