      Same in my Civics class. It's honestly really annoying because we're all enriched so we're obviously not the problems. Earlier this week a teacher didn't tell anyone in our class (another enriched class) that we would have a huge test and he overheard of complaining about how she told the other classes and not ours and he had the nerve to say that she did tell us but we were on our phones and didn't listen. Like??? What??? So EVERYBODY in the whole enriched (enriched is the highest level you can be in btw) went completely brain dead including the kids who don't even have phones??

    I like how similar this process is to writing stories (which does make sense because they are both creative processes). I have a folder of beautiful photos and art work, a playlist with videos about far away places, history, food, languages, random trinkets and crafts that are cool, and a word document where I mind dump random ideas and lines of dialogue a character might say.
    I'm not planning on like publishing a book, so it's really fun to procrastinate by pulling up a video about mapmaking, looking at some beautiful locations, grabbing some cookbooks, and mapping out what people eat in what regions of the fantasy continent and why. Like, what's the geography like to grow that food, is there multiple influences of cuisine, if so were they invaded? How does that affect the interactions between the mermaids and the humans? Do they trade for seafood? Etc.
    Now I'm hungry

I understand art can't be "right" but you know what I mean. You inspired me to use art to help get my deppresion out because my brother passed away in a car accident, and I used the wrong means to let it all out. Loved this video. It is so right on. I am a structured artist and I like the simple steps you outlined here. I actually use my sketchbook for thinking and planning, not for final pieces like I see a lot of artists do. I would be completely embarrassed to show my sketches - they wouldn't make sense to anyone but me.
    Bless you, dear one. I am looking forward to more Emily Artful Words of Wisdom! Keeping y'all in my prayers, stay safe, and WASH YOUR HANDS!

    Thank you so much for doing what you do. I went to college for art and it used to be my whole life, but I developed autoimmune disease that effects my eyes. I'm a mom too and it takes up so much of your life sometimes. There was a long stretch where I couldn't afford supplies at all. I've been trying to get back after a long break and your videos and stories make me feel so much better.

    Watching this just made me reflect on what i have been doing as an artist! As miss emily said that always take things aback and relax your brain and eyes to see a better view on the piece that you are working on. And when you feel like it's time get back in and start with a fresh pair of eyes. And also as always miss Emily thank you for creating videos like this u may not know it helped me immensly on my problems in artblock. And hope you continue what you are doing. Peace out

      I was really hating a piece I had worked on and hyperfocusing on all the things I felt were 'wrong' with it, and all the mistakes I thought were SUPER obvious... then I took a break, had a snack and came back to it a couple hours later, and all those things had nearly gone away completely. Definitely can still see my errors, but I can also see that no one ELSE is going to spot them unless I point them out in very close detail, lol. I'm calling it a learning experience for a certain technique/effect, and called the painting done!

    So many great ideas! I am prone to thinking I am an Artist! I should be able to create anything in any medium, I have been at this "Art thing" for 30+ years I should know what to do! I am trying to work with soft pastels and it is completely new to me, I must learn how this works and push past frustrations and just know everyone needs to keep learning or you stagnate. Lovely flowers and video, thanks.

    Im not even done with the video yet and this is already super helpful.
    Im currently stuck on a piece that I can see the flickering of in my head, but anytime I sit down to do it I wind up dissatisfied with where it's going and scrap the thing. I'm working in digital so I dont have to worry about paper, but I was pretty close to just dropping the idea in frustration.

    • @emilyartful
      @emilyartful  4 года назад +1

      Fehnryr Novak Sorry!! I’ve come to realize it is SO HARD for me to do lineart while on camera without totally messing it up. I just want to be all up on the page for that precision and even though I now wear glasses most of the time, I still need to be close to get it right. In fact I actually take my glasses OFF to get in close since I’m nearsighted. I will try to include it when I can in the future, but for now and for the sake of the finished piece, I’m trying to avoid filming the whole lineart process.

    An advert for alien perfume came up in between and I thought seems such a strange thing to call a perfume, so it got me thinking what would Emily call a perfume if she made one?

    • @emilyartful
      @emilyartful  4 года назад +1

      Adelia Hammond
      Hmm. Well for a serious name I’d really have to think about it, but it’d definitely have something to do with the macabre and it’d definitely smell of old books, driftwood, and dried flowers.
      Buuuttt, the funny side of me would want to capture a totally unique, specific, and weird smell so I’d make it smell like baby neck and straight up just call it “Funky Baby Neck”.
      My son was a little sweaty meat bag when he was tiny and his neck would gather lint and grime and would smell terrible. I’d be cleaning it and, of course, bathing him on a regular basis but it would still smell. Then I found out a lot of babies are like that and get that funky neck so yeah...
      I put a lot of thought into this.

    I really like this technique! Even with ideas that I already have, I recently had an idea for catching shooting stars that was inspired by a meteor shower on my animal crossing island.
    However, I felt that it lacked my own input and in my head looked super similar to something I’ve seems other artists do. So I followed your methods and now I have an idea that’s much more “me” and although a similar idea to other artists, I now have my own twist on it :)

  • @ilikejazz3004

    Wow even though I'm not currently struggling in art block this is very beneficial for making finished works.
    I never though of myself as creative so I never made my own "finished artwork". The reason being is because I feel as if I'm not skilled enough to create original ideas to make a "finished art piece", if that make sense.
    Any how, I appreciate This video didn't think I'll need it til now.

    My favorite thing to do when I'm stuck but still want to draw is put on a movie, my favorites to do being Marvel movies, and pause periodically to photograph some of the characters (this way I can draw with the movie still on) with interesting expressions or when it's just a good shot of the character and sketch them. I like doing portraits/busts because I play with lighting on the face and a tiny bit of clothing, since it's an area I struggle with and like practicing with
