For "No Game, No Life" I already hated how the sibling's relationship was sexualized especially because one of them was obviously underage, but then they set the background as 'lovers in a past life' and I was done.

I gained a lot more of respect for The Big Bang Theory because I toured the set of it. It’s actually filmed in front of alive audience, so it’s not a laugh track. They’ll even stop and see what went wrong and try multiple different ways to fix a joke if it didn’t work.
I love how Lavender talks about this with fans of those shows watching and the fans are just chilling and relaxed. Some fans in other channels be like: "If you don't like it don't do this" "How come you don't ike it? You're weird" Yeah, toxic fans.

I'm a fan of No Game No Life because I think that their world is very interesting. The way it works, the aesthetic, I really like it personally. But I completely agree with what you said about the fanservice. I hate it. It's just so unnecessary, and this is true for every anime. You can still do fanservice, just don't overdo it. It just ruins the show a lot of the time.

Fanservice that I’m fine with: fanservice every now and again for comedic value (or even cause you’re into it, idc) Fanservice that I do not like: fanservice that is so stifling that I can’t escape it, so prominent that you can’t make a female character without massive bazoongas and having the *out all the time despite how counterproductive that is in fighting* etc. Let’s just agree to chill it out. Follow Jujutsu Kaisen; there are characters who are half-nakey, but it’s tasteful and I can enjoy the manga without having to claw my eyes out to do so.
A good example of fan service kinda ruining a character is shion from tensei slime. Mf has bust the size of my house even though she didn’t in the manga. Still one of my fav characters, but the bust annoys me to no end.

As far as I can tell (I may be totally off, but eh) NGNL is almost meant to be a satirical take on the Isekai (in another world) genre, sorta like a less funny version of Mel Brooks, but anime. before settling on a decision, its good to do your research, otherwise you might pass up a lot of a stuff you actually may end up liking but assumed you wouldnt like due to the small first impression you had of it. I remember going into an anime and manga store with my boyfriend and there was a giant No Game No Life poster with Shiro’s ass towards the camera with nothing but panties that reveal eeeeeverything. I just can’t see this as anything other than gross, it’s embarrassing to take someone into a store and the first anime art they see is drawn borderline child porn. What a great first impression. I understand that on some level it’s easy to turn your brain off and not think about it since she’s such an unrealistic anime character but goddamn I don’t know why they think it’s ok to make this stuff.

When I heard the tv show was coming out, I thought they were taking stories from the River dale comics. Other than that if it was a regular teen crime tv show it would be aright. :/

I really didn’t like the idea of the New Sabrina. Also how much they encouraged the part about bLack cats being associated with evilness and witches and bad things and stuff. I try to stray away from those stupid myths and stereotypes, especially since I have a cat myself and it makes me feel so sad when I hear about people harming black cats because of stupid myths.
I feel the same about No Game No Life. It's really sad, it had the potential to be one of my favourite animes if not my favourite. I loved the ideas, style and designs but when they just started sexualising all the female characters, including Shiro, it made me really uncomfortable. The fact that they were doing this to an 11-year-old was disgusting. It got to a point where I just stopped watching it a few episodes before the final episode because it was just too much. These characters had the potential to be good characters with a lot of depth that were important to the plot, but they had just been over-sexualised to death. I tried really hard to like it, but that just kinda ruined the whole show for me :( Edit: Came back to this 5 months later. Wow, this blew up.

i still love the show (haven't watched some of the newest seasons yet). I understand some jokes are repetitive and ""sexist"" or stereotyping. But to me the whole concept of Leonardo and Sheldon as roommates is so funny and Parsons is such a good actor goddamn and it's almost enough for me to keep watching the show. Also most the characters have very good character developement especially Sheldon.

I watched a few episodes at a friend's house, and I couldn't really get into it, but I didn't think it was awful or anything. I did like the spooky aesthetic, but I kinda felt like it was just a basic show. I never thought about the stuff she pointed out with the witch trials and everything though. As an atheist, I was slightly annoyed at the fact that it seemed to portray Christianity as the only good option.

I couldn’t like No Game No Life. The whole show revolves around how badass the main duo is and nothing else. The whole world essentially exists to prop those two up. There was even a scene that the enemy girl fell on her knees after she was able to look into their memories SHOCKED because “how can you two living despite all this hardship?!” and there was a whole melodramatic scene. What was the mind bogglingly difficult past? Their parents didn’t love them but they still paid for their every expense and paid them enough that they never had to leave their room away from their computer screens. They are hailed as gods online and in this game world. Of all the things that could’ve happened, dark pasts, painful secrets, loss, etc. this one is the one that blew her mind?
littleblueclovers Shows that only portray the main character or characters as badasses and don't show any flaw to them or even any storytelling device to get the audience interested just gets on my nerves so much. That's basically making a cliche story with your mcs being Mary Sues, which is THE WORST thing possible you can do in making and telling a story.
Or... or... for their entire lives, they have been ostracized because they were too good at what they did. That's their issue, you can't be 'too good' within the rules, and especially not the opposite. There was an asian guy on Jeopardy who got a similar thing, no one liked him because he was too good, and wasn't playing by the 'socially accepted' rules. Not to mention, they show from the very first episode, that everyone thinks they are easily winning, when they only ever win by the skin of their teeth most of the time. Being a social outcast, while being a legend would definitely mess with heads.
I like the idea that Sora and Shiro have their own flaws, but seeing how they are unable to function without each other, we never really see that get developed (in the anime. I haven’t seen the movie, sorry) They’re always together and their flaws aren’t really addressed or helped. The two are almost like one single OP character because we see them kick ass, but not really see how they work on their flaws. I also think the concept of loneliness is a little watered down when the two have always had each other. We never see them argue and be truly “alone”, or anything along those lines. It’s totally fine if you like the show! Shiro looks so cute and the art is beautiful. I love the angel’s character design as well. I’d love to discuss the show (without starting a fight)

I couldn't watch it after episode 2 it was so disgusting shiro is a fucking child yet we can see her chest and underwear multiple times in the first episode and I watch a lot of anime and I'm used to fanservice but this "fanservice" was downright disgusting and I wanted to give it a chance but it was so gross
The movie was the first one I watched. I only watched the first episode of the anime and then stopped for no reason, I probably got disinterested. I don't know why.
On the Big Bang Theory, one of the jokes that comes up later on (but still early in the number of seasons) is that Penny makes a reference to a popular science-fiction show (I can't remember which) to someone very much like herself from the first season and it surprises even her. I'm also pretty sure that the writers put more focus on Sheldon's and Amy's relationship, which was a HUGE milestone for both, and less on Penny and Leonard's. Also, nothing fuels the hate side of my love/hate relationship with anime than tasteless forced fanservice (ESPECIALLY with underage characters) and underhanded themes of abuse. That's why I don't touch shows like No Game. When it's good, though, I absolutely love it.

I think the reason they did it was because the original light novel had Shiro and her brother in a relationship and that was a big no no for the show. I think they just replaced it with the abundent fanservice so it still had the same feeling, idk im just a bagel man who doesnt know anything lol.

I really like the concept of NGNL, and I watched the first episode again the other day with one of my friends (I first watched the show maybe 5 years ago?) And I remembered the weird sexualization of the sister, but I was like, maybe it was just weird in the way it was in SAO, but naaaah I was uncomfortable bc the fan service just kept coming and coming and coming. So much potential for a cool story and awesome animation style but alas, they had to go and give the audience panty shots of an 11 y/o
I think the movie is waay better , i don't know if the anime is a good adaptation but the movie is incredible, is a serious story when the world wasn't ruled by games, there was war everywhere and the humans were almost extint It has some issues with fanservice but that's something that happens in 1 scene of 1 minute and the guy rejects the situation so It's well done Besides that the story and animation is everything the original anime lacked

I got the light novels for Christmas so I could find out what happens after season 1, and when I opened it the pictures inside gave me anxiety for like two days (I still like the story and concept though)! I ended up covering the pictures with washi tape lol...😅

Salem was my favorite character! I got so mad when he didn't talk. HE WAS ONE OF THE ONLY FUNNY CHARACTERS! I loved him! But the new shower ruined Salem for me.

just a little rant I actually really wanted to watch anime before and when I was watching it, it made me kinda uncomfortable with the fan service and close ups with girls and just sexualizing them, it really just ruined trying to watch an anime, especially when there was a girl
I totally agree with you on No Game No Life- I think it definitely suffers from that horrible "male gaze" problem, where the show has all of these potentially great female characters but their only point is to be sexualized. It's really unfortunate especially when some of the designs (like Shiro) are really cute and she could potentially be a great character but they just sexualize her :/ It's why I can't watch a LOT of anime nowadays. Even if people say it's really good if it's got female characters that are sexualized or only exist to be in love with the main character I am immediately not interested
Is it a "male gaze" problem or are you solely defining these characters because they have a serialized aspect to them and ignoring any actual development they get? Don't get me wrong, I agree with that if pushed far enough it could ruin great characters, anything in extremes is bad. This seems to be entirely from your perspective though, as you yourself admitted that if there's ANY of x or y you click off. You generalize an entire character into "just sexualization" when there's so much more to them than that. Kill La Kill is "sexualized" show, but it's still great and has great characters. If you can't look deeper into a character because of sexualization than that's at the end of the day not the shows problem, it's you.

I gained a lot more of respect for The Big Bang Theory because I toured the set of it. It’s actually filmed in front of alive audience, so it’s not a laugh track. They’ll even stop and see what went wrong and try multiple different ways to fix a joke if it didn’t work.

I'm a fan of No Game No Life because I think that their world is very interesting. The way it works, the aesthetic, I really like it personally. But I completely agree with what you said about the fanservice. I hate it. It's just so unnecessary, and this is true for every anime. You can still do fanservice, just don't overdo it. It just ruins the show a lot of the time.

A good example of fan service kinda ruining a character is shion from tensei slime. Mf has bust the size of my house even though she didn’t in the manga. Still one of my fav characters, but the bust annoys me to no end.

I feel the same about No Game No Life. It's really sad, it had the potential to be one of my favourite animes if not my favourite.
I loved the ideas, style and designs but when they just started sexualising all the female characters, including Shiro, it made me really uncomfortable.
The fact that they were doing this to an 11-year-old was disgusting.
It got to a point where I just stopped watching it a few episodes before the final episode because it was just too much.
These characters had the potential to be good characters with a lot of depth that were important to the plot, but they had just been over-sexualised to death.
I tried really hard to like it, but that just kinda ruined the whole show for me :(

i still love the show (haven't watched some of the newest seasons yet). I understand some jokes are repetitive and ""sexist"" or stereotyping. But to me the whole concept of Leonardo and Sheldon as roommates is so funny and Parsons is such a good actor goddamn and it's almost enough for me to keep watching the show. Also most the characters have very good character developement especially Sheldon.

I watched a few episodes at a friend's house, and I couldn't really get into it, but I didn't think it was awful or anything. I did like the spooky aesthetic, but I kinda felt like it was just a basic show. I never thought about the stuff she pointed out with the witch trials and everything though. As an atheist, I was slightly annoyed at the fact that it seemed to portray Christianity as the only good option.

I couldn’t like No Game No Life. The whole show revolves around how badass the main duo is and nothing else. The whole world essentially exists to prop those two up.
There was even a scene that the enemy girl fell on her knees after she was able to look into their memories SHOCKED because “how can you two living despite all this hardship?!” and there was a whole melodramatic scene.
What was the mind bogglingly difficult past? Their parents didn’t love them but they still paid for their every expense and paid them enough that they never had to leave their room away from their computer screens. They are hailed as gods online and in this game world. Of all the things that could’ve happened, dark pasts, painful secrets, loss, etc. this one is the one that blew her mind?

Shows that only portray the main character or characters as badasses and don't show any flaw to them or even any storytelling device to get the audience interested just gets on my nerves so much. That's basically making a cliche story with your mcs being Mary Sues, which is THE WORST thing possible you can do in making and telling a story.
Or... or... for their entire lives, they have been ostracized because they were too good at what they did.
That's their issue, you can't be 'too good' within the rules, and especially not the opposite. There was an asian guy on Jeopardy who got a similar thing, no one liked him because he was too good, and wasn't playing by the 'socially accepted' rules.
Not to mention, they show from the very first episode, that everyone thinks they are easily winning, when they only ever win by the skin of their teeth most of the time.
Being a social outcast, while being a legend would definitely mess with heads.
I like the idea that Sora and Shiro have their own flaws, but seeing how they are unable to function without each other, we never really see that get developed (in the anime. I haven’t seen the movie, sorry)
They’re always together and their flaws aren’t really addressed or helped. The two are almost like one single OP character because we see them kick ass, but not really see how they work on their flaws.
I also think the concept of loneliness is a little watered down when the two have always had each other. We never see them argue and be truly “alone”, or anything along those lines.
It’s totally fine if you like the show! Shiro looks so cute and the art is beautiful. I love the angel’s character design as well.

On the Big Bang Theory, one of the jokes that comes up later on (but still early in the number of seasons) is that Penny makes a reference to a popular science-fiction show (I can't remember which) to someone very much like herself from the first season and it surprises even her. I'm also pretty sure that the writers put more focus on Sheldon's and Amy's relationship, which was a HUGE milestone for both, and less on Penny and Leonard's.
Also, nothing fuels the hate side of my love/hate relationship with anime than tasteless forced fanservice (ESPECIALLY with underage characters) and underhanded themes of abuse. That's why I don't touch shows like No Game. When it's good, though, I absolutely love it.

I really like the concept of NGNL, and I watched the first episode again the other day with one of my friends (I first watched the show maybe 5 years ago?) And I remembered the weird sexualization of the sister, but I was like, maybe it was just weird in the way it was in SAO, but naaaah I was uncomfortable bc the fan service just kept coming and coming and coming. So much potential for a cool story and awesome animation style but alas, they had to go and give the audience panty shots of an 11 y/o
I think the movie is waay better , i don't know if the anime is a good adaptation but the movie is incredible, is a serious story when the world wasn't ruled by games, there was war everywhere and the humans were almost extint

I got the light novels for Christmas so I could find out what happens after season 1, and when I opened it the pictures inside gave me anxiety for like two days (I still like the story and concept though)! I actually really wanted to watch anime before and when I was watching it, it made me kinda uncomfortable with the fan service and close ups with girls and just sexualizing them, it really just ruined trying to watch an anime, especially when there was a girl
I totally agree with you on No Game No Life- I think it definitely suffers from that horrible "male gaze" problem, where the show has all of these potentially great female characters but their only point is to be sexualized. It's really unfortunate especially when some of the designs (like Shiro) are really cute and she could potentially be a great character but they just sexualize her :/
It's why I can't watch a LOT of anime nowadays. Even if people say it's really good if it's got female characters that are sexualized or only exist to be in love with the main character I am immediately not interested
Is it a "male gaze" problem or are you solely defining these characters because they have a serialized aspect to them and ignoring any actual development they get? Don't get me wrong, I agree with that if pushed far enough it could ruin great characters, anything in extremes is bad. This seems to be entirely from your perspective though, as you yourself admitted that if there's ANY of x or y you click off. You generalize an entire character into "just sexualization" when there's so much more to them than that. Kill La Kill is "sexualized" show, but it's still great and has great characters. If you can't look deeper into a character because of sexualization than that's at the end of the day not the shows problem, it's you.
