I got my first a7S3 in Oct 2021 in the pre-order. By December 2021, I got a second a7S3. In March 2022 I got the A1 as I need the 8K for very special cases of shooting. By October 2022, I got my 3rd a7S3. You cannot beat the 4K60fps in Slog3 with 422 10bit as the colors are so rich and deep. Even the A1 cannot beat the a7S3 even with its 8K30 422 10 bit Slog3. The two reasons I kept the a1 were (1) the ability to crop in 200% and maintain 4K and (2) continuous 6 hours recording in 8K30 fps at high shutter speed of 1/1000 so I can extract 12Mp stills. I looked at the FX3 but didn't care for the $500 extra over the a7S3 yet no EVF. The a7S4 must have 8K60 fps for me to move up but that likely won't be till 2026.
It's impressive to see your dedication and how well you've tailored your gear to meet your specific needs! Your journey with the a7S3s and the A1 highlights a keen understanding of what each camera offers, particularly valuing the a7S3's exceptional 4K60fps performance in Slog3 for its rich color depth. The A1's unique features for your specific cases-like the ability to crop while maintaining 4K quality and the extended recording capability for extracting high-quality stills-are strategic choices that showcase a thoughtful approach to your toolkit. Your perspective on the FX3 and the considerations for future upgrades to an a7S4 with 8K60 fps capabilities show a forward-thinking approach to technology investments, balancing current needs with future aspirations. It's a great reminder for the community that while new gear is continually being released, understanding and leveraging the strengths of what we have can often provide incredible results. Thanks for sharing your experiences and insights. It certainly provides valuable food for thought for anyone considering their next camera purchase or upgrade.
Nice! The A7S III is a beast for video work. It sounds like you have a great two-camera setup between the A7S III and A7IV for both photo and video. What kind of video work are you focusing on? Cheers!
Finally Sony updated the Sony A7siii with new features including focus breathing compensation. I personally like the viewfinder and low light capabilities including for photos and astrophotography.
@Sam-uw7pw How have they treated us? I have owned 8 different Sony bodies and various lenses and have never felt that way. But I would love to know why you take that approach?
Very insightful perspective. For a while now I had been set on upgrading to the Sony A7IV, as I am a hybrid shooter, however, I am more inclined to video, and rolling shutter performance on that camera looks very disappointing in most tests I have watched, then I considered the ZV-E1, but I was concerned with overheating, and no EVF or mechanical shutter. So thinking the A7SIII will be the perfect camera for me. Can still shoot decent professional photos, but dominates in video. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
Thank you so much for the comment! I am glad you were able to take something from my video. All the new cameras on the market and all the great new features are always very tempting. But the realest in me always goes back to my trusty A7SIII. Cheers!
@@NerdRapper Interesting. So much for a 7K sensor to have low quality 1080p. I have found this to be true after watching some reviews testing 1080 footage.
i got the s3 on release and still have it. Still nothing on the market that makes it obsolete. Just picked up the ZV-E1 earlier this month and its pretty much almost the same camera with minor updates in a smaller body.
Appreciate you for this informational video, you might’ve sold me on purchasing this camera to level up from my Panasonic lumix G85. I hope I make the right choice, using this camera primarily for music videos and pictures for the artists I shoot for.
You can not go wrong with the A7SIII. Take some time and really learn how to use S-LOG3 and where the native ISO is at for your shots and you will get some great images! Thanks for the comment, Cheers!
Hey there! The A7SIII is a beast in low light and slow-motion, making it a great companion for your a7IV. Though, it has fewer megapixels for photos and costs more. If low light and video are your jam, the A7SIII rocks! Cheers!
I honestly didn't know that was a feature on the a7IV. But super useful as you can get a good gage on what your image will look like when shooting. Thanks for the comment, Cheers!
i have 2 a7siii and both have paid for themselves and continue to do so. the lack of firmware updates hasn’t kept me from making money with them. and if i want to focus on a “real” photo, i’ll use my wife’s a7iv 😁
You're absolutely right. The A7S III's combination of low-light performance, high frame rate recording, and reliable autofocus makes it a very compelling option for video creators. It's tough to predict what the next three years hold, but the A7S III has the potential to remain a leader in the mirrorless video camera market for quite some time. Thanks for the comment, Cheers!
Sony a7slll its agreat camera! I rent for a wedding also i using a7iv very simar image but now I thinking buy the a7slll or the fx3 but ilove to have viewfinder .
For sure! The A7IV is awesome and you can’t beat the FX3 as far as price to features goes. The viewfinder is imperative for me though. Thanks for the comment, Cheers! 🙏
@@KarlWeinreich Yes the update thing is quite bad to be honest, at least it would give us incentive to buy their GM lenses to take advantage of breathing comp, may as well just get the cheaper sigmas.
Reasons I am considering the A7S III over the other options: FX3: Doesn’t have a physical shutter. FX30: Crop sensor. A7 IV: 1.5x crop at 4K 60P and overhearing issues. A7R V: Too many pixels for my workflow. Bad low light. A1: Out of my budget, too many MP, Low light isn’t great. Lumix cameras: Bad auto focus Canon cameras: Bad video quality and overheating. Fuji film: Bad UI and firmware issues.

@uphdennyalexander the A7IV will be a great camera to upgrade to honestly. You get great photos and video with good low light. 33mp is great. Easy, SIII. You get the EVF, 4K120, 4K60 full frame. They keep trying to go smaller but the little bit bigger camera feels better in the hand. Dual card slots, can use the battery grips. If it is purely a financial thing then the ZV will do just fine. You can create great stuff with either. But my choice would be the SIII. Thanks for the comment, cheers!
The Sony FX3 and the A7S III share the same 5-axis in-body image stabilization (IBIS) system, so their performance in terms of IBIS is quite similar. However, the FX3 might have slight optimizations for video-centric workflows, this was a software thing on the FX3 when it came out. I think this has been adjusted in the latest firmware for the A7SIII. Both cameras should provide excellent stabilization for handheld shooting. Thanks for the comment, cheers!
