      Great videos! Clear and comprehensible without sacrificing comprehensiveness.
      Not an architect, just a fairly new hobbyist for digital art. Having most of my drawing experience with paper, I found using a “paper-like” screen protector has been a game changer in my ability to be more precise with my initial sketches fwiw. Only downside is they eat up Apple Pencil tips much quicker than other screen protectors, but the benefits far outweigh the cost.

    • @DamiLeeArch
      @DamiLeeArch  2 года назад

      @@baer96 Yes I haven't had that happen yet on mine, but I've heard that's a common problem. I don't know what the workaround is 🥲

    • @InspiredScience
      @InspiredScience 2 года назад

      @@DamiLeeArch - There is no workaround for the tip-consumption w/"paper" screen protectors. Fortunately you can buy third-party tips fairly inexpensive in quantity on Amazon.
      In my experience, after using an iPad Pro 12 for several years, I've moved off the paper screen protectors. Not because of the tip issues; rather, primarily due to slightly reduced sensitivity/accuracy. It's not a substantial amount but it's enough, particularly when I'm using conceptual massing tools.

    I'm a network engineer by trade, but I love listening/watching these videos. Every once in a while, I need to submit propose floor plans for equipment like routers, access points, etc. Typically my job will be to physically be on site to map the locations, to then have the architects or whoever implement them into the proposed floor plans. After submitting mine, they usually send a response to the effect of "uhhh, these plans look completed, we don't know who did these. we don't have to touch them, they are good to go".
    I have my iPad to thank for that. Great video!

    Aside from using the iPad stand-alone by sketching or having out at a job-site, I keep it next to my computers (iMac 27" and M1 Max 16" MBPro). I'll be doing ArchiCAD on my iMac, Twinmotion on my laptop (the M1 Max Chip rules at this), and I'll use my iPad for ALL other apps so I don't have to switch out of the programs to do emails, or texting, Notion, or PDF review, etc., etc., (and of course, managing my music playlists as I work). I use the iPad natively, and "not" as an extended display. The thing that brings it all together is "Universal Control" which enables me to use a single keyboard, trackpad and mouse across all three devices. It's amazing how well it works!
    When out at job sites, I actually save CAD plans/elevations out to high-res JPGs and use the Autodesk Sketchbook app for marking up, dimensioning, etc., while on-site. I found doing these tasks in a raster-based mode is much easier than marking up a PDF with vector annotation tools. It's basically like Photoshop or Procreate on the iPad as well.
    Keep up the great channel!

      As a 25 years old as of now in his laster semester before I need to write my master thesis I just can say: Try it out ! If it is possible/affordable for you to try out these types of work do it. If this is what you really like than let nothing stop you from going that way. And if you find out midway, that it is not what you want to do in the long run then this is also an important lesson and you can try something else. Just now that sometimes there are hard days everywhere. I wish you all the best on your way and that you will be happy with whatever route you might take.

    As an old school architect, its superb for work flow and colabs worldwide but old school sketches are still the best and beautiful on tracing paper, using china ink pen. Free hand sketches like Oscar Niemeyer, Siza Vieira, or late Barry Berkus which has good sketches tutorials on youtube are the way to go. When you are drawing, your brain feels more the process and the space awareness than digital and templates.
    Its like using real buildings models than Renders 3ds.

I found that it’s a helpful tool for myself to get ideas down faster than on trace paper. I still find it hard to sketch details and other dwgs of that type on the iPad as opposed to a physical sketchbook and I think it’s due to the constraints of a physical page as opposed to a digital pg you can manipulate. If this would have been available during my college days, life would have been so different... I recognize all the struggles though (and the miles of tracing paper!) 😉 Awesome solution to use your Ipad for this instead! Thanks for this upgraded journey back in time. ✌️

    Very interesting approach. Have you ever tried using Sketchbook? To me, the app is more geared towards the building design field.

      I'm sorry, should have come out saying how much I'm a fan of your presentation and content. I'm going into landscape design, but there's a ton of overlap that I'm gleaning from you. Thank you for taking time and energy to make great content on yt!

    Thank you for your inspiring video! I'm an architect too and want to make a step forward in buying an iPad for all the work steps you mentioned (sketching, markup, internal reviews and site visits). Would you recommend to go with a 11" or a 13" iPad Air? I'm not sure about the best size for all these different use cases... thank you for a short feedback and regards!

    I have been thinking of getting one but can’t really decide which size to get. Would you prefer 11” Ipad or 12.9” one to make drawings?

    You described pretty well my struggles when I'm on site. Other reason I don't like bringing too many papers is that I don't really like printing or like wasting too many papers with all the revisions and stuff :( Wish I can afford to buy one. Great video! New subscriber here :)

    Hi Dami,
    Thanks for the explanation.
    I’m considering whether to buy an iOS or Windows tablet, as I'm currently studying architecture and a bit unsure. I’m confused about which one to choose because I’m not sure if AutoCAD will run on an iPad. Could you let me know if it’s compatible?
    Also, I'd appreciate your suggestion on which device you'd recommend, given that I’m an architecture student.
    Thanks!

    Interesting video! I’m a boat builder who specializes in interiors. I still work exclusively on grid paper and on the board. I know I need to enter the 21st century, most of my drawings are for joinery and hardware. I would love your recommendation on a single program for the tablet. Thx for the vids and keep up the good work!

    Thank you for sharing the links of what your using! I love this idea but everyone just say they use an Ipad as you know there are many options and I didn't want to purchase a Ipad and then regret not getting one with other feature. I am looking a Sketchup. Can you let me know why you went with the software you did? Ill watch this video more to find out if you say why.
    Thank you for sharing!

    Hi thanks for sharing your process and glad to know how you works 😊 I’m thinking to buy ipad mini cause to me portability is the most important, but do you think is it too hard to draw and trace?? And if I use the metric paper on ipad mini, is it printed like same resolution like as ipad pro?

    Love your videos! What are your thoughts on what physical size, memory size and iPad version to get as a minimum, and do you connect it to your PC?
    I use Revit and I'm about to buy a PC because I Bootcamp my MacBook Pro but it cant handle everything and is a pain to go from Mac to PC.
