Part Two will be available at 12pm (GMT) ☺
EEEEK cant wait!!!!!!!!!
Working from home today. I'll take a nap and set up my alarm for 12pm 😜😜😜
Thanks for this. It's 540a, now, for Part 1. Part 2 at 7a. I appreciate knowing things. 👍
Oh gosh! I know I should've waited to watch until you uploaded part 2! LOL
A Shadow vessel buried on Mars was one of the things that *really* blew my mind the most when I first watched this series. As revelations go, it's one of the biggest, in my mind. B5 is a master class in writing the slow reveal of a scary monster to maximize the dread before the protagonists have a proper "first contact". Writers: take note! JMS is one of the greats.
I find it really interesting that the Shadows were fighting against the Minbari and Vorlons around 1250 AD. It's about 600 years later that humans got their first real look at Mars with telescopes, enough to make out any features on the surface. That's certainly long enough for all signs of excavation to be erased. And of course it was another couple centuries before we got truly detailed imagery of the red planet. It's nuts to think about aliens visiting our solar system even as recently as the 13th century. The Crusades on Earth were ongoing. Marco Polo was born. Kublai Khan was founding the Yuan Dynasty. St. Thomas Aquinas was beginning to write the Summa Theologiae.
The previous emergance of the Shadows occurred at a time when human civilization was only just beginning in the Fertile Crescent.
"I was piloting a shuttle on Mars around the same time. We went down. Two of us had to get back to civilization on our own." Two of us... Garibaldi and Sinclair. IIRC that was their first meeting.
There was a comic story that expanded on Sinclair and Garibaldi meeting. It includes Garibaldi being completely drunk and Sinclair straightening him out but good. XD
Think so too - the story is told in one of the comic books, though I don't know which one or how hard it is to get a hold of those nowadays.
@@mayra3277 That's in issues 5-8 of the shortlived ongoing comic series by DC. "Shadows Past and Present". These were collected in a paperback with the same name. Might be worth looking around for.
One of the best stories in the comic series
glad someone mentioned this bit of dialogue from S1E4 and it's a nice Easter egg for those who missed it the first time around.
So the link between the Shadows, IPX, Psi-Corps, and Earthdome is becoming less muddled. Now let's draw a picture. IPX uncovers a Shadow vessel in Syria Planum, Psi-Corps creates a secret facility there unknown to anyone not in the Corps. In Season 2 we see a Ranger on the run from Psi-cops while on Mars. This Ranger tells Lyta about the sleeper program. The premise of the sleepers is that they have two personalities, Control, and the normal person. We also have heard of a type of 'humane' capital punishment called Death of Personality where the criminal has a new identity implanted over the old, whereby the original can never come back. This is exampled by both Talia Winters and Brother Edward. And remember, Talia had been to the Corps facility on Syria Planum, where IPX uncovered a Shadow vessel.... further discussion of this would cause major spoilers however, so draw what conclusions you will.
I don't know why but the story the archaeologist tells always stayed with me. The way it's told is like a classic horror story and really helped drive home a primal fear of the shadows, they aren't just powerful but terrifying. Love your reactions :)
SHE is the "package from Mars" Marcus was expecting. (referenced in a previous episode)
JMS does GREAT world-building / continuity!
Also, I understand that Sinclair was the OTHER person on the shuttle from Garabaldi's story. I don't know if it is Canon or not, but some comments here say that it is shown in a B5 Comic.
If so, it irks me that they passed on yet OTHER opportunity to refer to Sinclair after he left! (there are about a dozen places in the Series where they COULD have, but didn't.)
Also, I LOVE the "prison cell scene" with G'kar & Garabaldi! SO entertaining.
I highly doubt JMS had Sinclair in mind as the second person on Garibaldi's shuttle, or Garibaldi absolutely would have said so in the scene. It's just a case of a later work inserting a popular character where he _seems_ to fit, but actually doesn't...
@@mcwolf1096 the Babylon 5 comic book does identify Sinclair as the one with Garibaldi. It was their first meeting, Sinclair hired him as a shuttle pilot.
@@fredfiles2155 I understood that already. My point still stands - if JMS had it _was_ Sinclair, Garibaldi absolutely would have said so during that meeting. So it's the comic book author who made that up, and - in a sense - made Garibaldi act very much out of character during this episode, which is why I will never consider that to be canon.
@@mcwolf1096 I dont necessarily agree given that Marcus never overtly stated that it was Sinclair who gave him his fighting staff.
@@fredfiles2155 ...which is info you got from... where? Definitely not the series, nor any of the trilogies that JMS pretty much called canon at one point. So it sounds like you're justifying a claim made in one non-canon source by bringing up something from _another_ non-canon source...
Marcus truly has some fabulous hair...keeps it's shape and bounce even in combat!
"Later is too late" should be a motto for all of us (me) who put-off doing things.
I'll write that down... later.
"... and the decision is made." Yes! "End of part 1" Nooooooo!
Thank you for your reactions, they are so honest and pure, and things haven’t even really kicked off yet! I can’t wait for you to see the next run of episodes!
I had one of the same exact pens G'kar used to write in his cell. One of the incidental advantages of having a mall job in Southern California during the 1990's-- they were in all the bookstores.
If you watch back the first season, you'll see a scene of Garibaldi finishing telling that martian story at the end of a elevator ride. I think it was Talia, but I can't remember for sure. neither which episode it was, sorry. But yes, it's there. Two frikking years before this episode.
You have to love a show that gives that kind of easter egg with that much advance.
Also, from the filming side of this episode, the breakfast scene had so many takes that at the end, Claudia Christian was thoroughly sick of that food. She was supposed to not swallow, but to spit the food into a disposal bag (to avoid indigestion, for starters), but at the end, she couldn't wait that much, and started spitting it on the floor.
Last episode, with Duncan and the exogenesis aliens, one of Marcus' contacts said "The package you were asking about", "should be here in about a week." I believe that was a clear indication of this doctor's arrival. Just saying, it was maybe a teaser "Make sure you come back next week to see what we have planned."
Yes! I love that these post for my morning. Our story is about to open up. Here we go!
It has to be asked: How _does_ one get a fresh chicken egg all the way out to Babylon 5?
My best guess: You bring a laying hen along as an 'emotional support animal' followed shortly after the delivery of goods with a nice dinner...
I think appropriate freezing woul do the trick?
@@voiceover2191 If it were that simple then Garibaldi would have been able to do it. Once frozen it wouldn't be fresh anymore, by definition.
The interstellar equivalent of the Pony Express. A very small, very fast cargo ship that transports luxury/perishable goods or anything that someone is willing to pay a premium to have delivered very quickly.
So glad you are feeling better. To borrow a phrase from another franchise: "here's where the fun begins".
No offense but people have been leaving comments like this (phrases like “and now it begins”) since she reacted to season 1 episode 1 lmao.
Although... you are right. This is where it TRULY begins.
@@shamsham1229 lol You're not wrong. When you know the whole work it does seem as though some things are always just about to pop. I'm sure I'm one of those people. And I'll be doing it again! :)
There have been several '...and so it begins...', and I've been guily of a few of 'em. This, I have to say, is one of the more critical of them.
I'm so happy and envious of you right now -- you now get to go beyond the rim!!
No, that's hopefully something which will take many more years.
My first time watching your videos.
You are adorable and your enthusiasm is infectious.
All the threads set up over the last 2 1/2 seasons are weaving together.
My favorite episode! You've made it to the absolute top of the roller coaster, and the ride does not stop from here on out!
Nice to see that you're a Lennier fan.. :)
As the series 3 intro suggests, escalation is afoot.....
I love Garabaldi and G'Kar. Garabaldi is really friendly with all of them.
I also just love the for or against line. G'Kar doesn't care either way as long as they are talking about it.
And now it really gets going
The point of no return
No, that’s next episode.
Garibaldi say's he was in a shuttle that went down & along with someone else had to get back. That someone else was Jeff Sinclair (this bit of backstory was only revealed in a comic)
Andreas Katsulas had the most amazing laugh.
Oh balls is right
BOLLOCKS!
"I guess she's important" you have no idea....
"Oh, balls!" Don't ever change, Ms Cascade... 😂😂😂😂
enjoying your reaction videos on Babylon 5 but wanted to give you a little info. when Garabaldi mentioned that he saw some of what that woman did it was shown in the comic series and the other person he was with was Sinclair. it was how they first met.
There's a comic that addresses just who Garibaldi was with on Mars when his shuttle went down - fills in some blanks. I must dig it out! I was hoping you weren't going to miss visuals amongst your frenzied note taking, I chuckled when I saw it was this one!
Love your enthusiasm!❤
I really can't tell what I enjoyed most about this one (your reaction, not the episode) - On the one hand, it was brilliant that you got so excited about the title of the episode. You know someone is really getting into a show when they are trying to guess what the title will signify... but then I think that may ave been topped around the "SHIT!" moment... Flippin brilliant. Also, props for remembering Dr Jacobs, you are exactly the kind of keen eyed astute audience member JMS was writing for!
7 years ago there were active Shadow ships. Sp...the Icarus didn´t wake them up?
Dr Kirkish really looks like Sam from Stargate!
8:22 That's gotta hurt...
Love watching your reaction to my favorite show ever. Can't wait till you get through this season and the next one. It's going to be exciting to see your reaction to all of them.
I sincerely envy you, being able to watch these episodes for the first time.
There are quite a few interesting questions raised by that breakfast scene.
1. Given Marcus' ability to find out information, why did he choose to serve "real" bacon and eggs to a Jew?
2. Given the ready made excuse not to eat the meal, why did Susan continue? The lady doth protest too much?
3. How does Susan square away eating the meal with her religious identity? Possible answers include:
A. The rules around kosher foods have changed in a couple of hundred years (possibly due to having to be reviewed in light of so many new alien food sources appearing).
B. Susan doesn't care about following Jewish traditions. While it is rarely addressed directly, there are scenes that show Susan with Jewish symbols in private. But how seriously does she take it?
C. What we call "real" bacon today may not be what they call "real" bacon in the future. Substitute forms of bacon will have been around for long enough by then that they may call any bacon product as "real" even if it is made from a meat other than pork.
Wasn't it just eggs on the plate?
@@Payne2view 1:30, Sheridan, "I smell bacon and eggs."
Beef and turkey bacon exist now, though beef bacon is annoyingly difficult to get.
@@RectPropagation See point C in my original comment. 😉
@@zarabada6125 Ok. Well. We learned previously that Ivanova isn't the most practicing of her religion.
Excited to see episode 10 reaction (my favourite episode of season 3)
Yep, that one won another Hugo award
I am waiting for 3x22 to go up sometime today on Patreon.
No need to flex
Oh nice double feature.
'and so it begins'... lol
Mary was the pkg Marcus was expecting as mentioned in a prior episode.
If the package from Mars had been someone with vital information on the run, I think that Marcus would have gone to get her himself. More likely, it was breakfast for Susan.
@@ethenallen1388 Bacon and eggs.....from Mars. Let's just let that sink in and wallow it around for a minute.
@tvdroid22 A package originating from Earth having to pass through Mars doesn't seem unreachable.
Marcus hearing about someone who was in danger because she might have information about the Shadows and being so casual about it is a little harder to accept.
@@ethenallen1388 First of all, Mars isn't some sort of waypoint to B5. In this fiction, Mars was pushing to be an independent colony, not exactly friendly to Earth, as it were. As was seen later, Dr. Franklin and Marcus had to take cargo ships to avoid being seen going to Mars. Marcus was looking for Dr Kirkish with the help of the Rangers. No need for him to go space-hopping when they are out there coordinating her escape. He did meet her on her arrival and fought several attackers pursuing her. She was then assisted by Delenn (the co-commander of the Rangers) and Lennier into Minbari space. You will recall in a prior episode, Marcus was meeting with a Ranger who carried a message "from Ranger One." His final comment was regarding the package Marcus had been asking about.....the package that was coming from Mars in about a week....The package Garibaldi had asked Marcus to find. Dr. Kirkish was stationed on Mars for several years. Now, in the big picture it really doesn't matter. I'm leaving it at this point.
Great reaction
@5:16, that's my girl!!
Always loved this episode!
Subscription added!
Heck yeah, let's go!
Is there no novel about G'Quwan, or the old war (Valen and friends)?
You left out the SUAEI Clause
Ok, a dumb(?) question: does that spring load staff actually open up? Or just multiple props? Same goes for the Hawkeye/Ronin sword.
Can’t answer for the sword, but the staff was multiple props
@@tohon thank you.
Another glorious B5 reaction two-parter.
Shit is about to get real.
great vid review,i wonder what you would make of the film,a man from earth........its a cheap movie with an interesting story,
Ah, the midpoint of the series. This trilogy is all 🔥
💘😊
Bacon... isn't she Jewish? doubt that is kosher. LOL.
Turkey bacon
Just a thought - if Ivanova is jewish, why is she eating bacon?
When someone joins the military, I think that they understand that they'll have to give up some of their customs.
No matter your gender or sexual preferences I think it's just normal to crush on Marcus...
