I knew weapon swap was a thing but I thought you had to manually swap weapons when you want to do it, but those little check boxes in the skill window automatically do all the "swapping" for you, making the gameplay stay smooth while still getting the benefits
Yes, finally somebody bringing that up to light! I've been playing a lightning monk using that tech from the start, it's a lot of fun. I've got a core tree of crit, lightning stuff and defense, and my weapon passives makes me either a quarterstaff user or a spellcaster. Main set is quarterstaff and second is a wand, I cast orb of storms so that any attack I make in the area procs 2 lighning bolts, which in turn can proc the bell. The latter is gone within a second with high attack speed, melting anything in its AoE. Cost a lot of gold to figure out, but yeah, there's so much depth in there, I'm sure we'll see more meta builds emerge around that idea.
Even for a Spark Archmage Stormweaver also use the weapon swap feature too. One tree for pure lightning damage, and another for maximizing the curse from Conductivity so you can get longer curse duration and higher effectiveness.

Then you make it such that Explosive shot is assigned to one crossbow and the Shock skill is assigned to the second. Then, you assign basic shot from your first weapon on your left click and basic shot from the second crossbow on your right mouse button. As a result, when playing you can instantly "swap" skills by pushing left and right click
I equipped my second crossbow but still only have one basic crossbow option, not sure what I’m doing wrong because I can’t get my shock burst rounds to work when I have the skill assigned to my second crossbow
Saw from someone using a bow to apply shock on a gas grenade build and I realize the weapon swaps passive tree on the spot and came up with the idea for faster armor break build up when the enemy is shocked. Pretty neat idea to use to stack extra debuff with your build 👌
I started with mercenary and I instantly felt the need to have my grenades and my ammo on different crossbows. It is so good. It's like having 20+ more skill ponts.

Yeah when Jonathan said, "Players don't have to use weapon swap" that was a lie. It's absolutely mandatory if you want to min/max. You're leaving a tremendous amount of power on the table if you don't use it. 100% of builds will use dual spec as soon as the playerbase is used to it. Personally I've been using a very degenerate strategy that should work on every character: 1) Unspec 100% of the defense and utility nodes on your tree. 2) Put all the defense and utility back on your tree for weapon swap 1. This is 'Normal stance'. 3) Take all the extra points and put them into damage for weapon swap 2. This is 'Glass cannon stance'. 4) Use the same weapon type on both swaps. 5) Get several of the 'adds a cooldown' support gems and add them to a few heavy hitting skill, or if you have a good heavy hitting skill with a long cooldown use that. 6) Put the long cooldown stuff on glass cannon stance, put everything else on normal stance. 7) Only use glass cannon stance abilities when you're confident it's safe to do so. 8) Always use a normal stance ability immediately after using a glass cannon stance ability to ensure you swap back to your defensive setup. And that's it. Literally every build in the game can use this strategy and it massively spikes your power.
I wasn't thinking about weapon swaps for my invoker but I might do that, ice strike for close range and storm wave for long range clear, both with a bit different passive trees could function very well. Thanks for great explanation and engraving an idea in my head!
I can see this being very strong for mercenary. 20 passive points on Witchhunter seem kinda good now. The possibilities with Gemling are pretty crazy too. Thanks dude, I had no idea about this. I’m gonna need a lot more skill gems lol. I just looked on the maxroll build planner and selected the Weapon Master node under Witchhunter. You get 123 main and 48/48 per weapon set and an additional 24 for a gold set but I’m not sure what that is.
A couple of things that I believe you missed. First is that you need to have 2 weapons equipped first before you are able to start allocating the points, otherwise it'll just use your normal points. Secondly, is that if you press Shift it will highlight the weapon-skill points that are currently in your offhand. The latter has been super useful for me since I am red-green colorblind
this explains why when I tried it, I couldnt get the weapon swap to work I was so confused by it awlways wapping back, its because you get two separate crossbow shot skill
So i wanna apply the weapon swap since i have 2 equal and good weapons but not enough currency to swap in to the enegy shield end game build. In the maxroll guide there are only 2 options. The early with a combined passive tree for aoe and boss/and single target and a second one with the passive tree moving in to energy shield nodes. So i would like to see a "middle" passive tree where you use the early version but switching nodes for weapon 1 and weapon 2. Thank you!
I am doing a shockburst build using lightning warp for shocked ground. Weapon swap to mace/shield while throwing ball lightning and warping makes me so much tankier. Plus magnitude of shock on just that weapon swap lets me keep pumping damage on my main attack. I am still so surprised when I see big name creators not have anything in their second weapon swap, like just throwing a mace on for leap slam costs nothing and is an instant cast, it has saved me so many times. One downside to this with 2 crossbows though. It does not count for the "More damage per crossbow ammo types used" node.
What if I tell you you can have one MAIN hand weapon on weapon slot nr. 1, AND two offhands, one on weapon slot nr. 1 Nd second on the weapon slot nr. 2. If you swap slots only the offhand is swapping. Thanks me later.

I understand why you would split it but I’m confused. I thought yellow bar meant it applies to every weapon you have. So why do you split it? For example, why split it at all into red and green of yellow applies it to both weapons anyways?
Cuz when u split u got 1 point for all = 2 points for weapon one, weapon two sets, technically doubling your remaining passives, but they work only on weapon set one or two

I'm to old to change my mind of moving my char after 9 years of PoE1. I really tryed it but my brain stop working when i try to play with WASD to move my char. But that means the whole weaponswap automatic i cant use right because a skill on left mouse button when i move with the mouse is shit right? for crossbow it seems viable, since you dont have to swap the bolt. Personally i used it for different types of spells and the small delay between weapon changes felt absolutly aweful. So i guess its a crossbow thing only...
is the life reserve not taking up part of the bar a bug? I tried it and it didn't reduce my max life like I thought it would. Maybe I just dont understand how the stack draining works, as it just says "life" and doesn't specify max life or unreserved life. Edit: just tested and it's max life, so ye the dog is infinitely better as an ascendancy due to the 20% damage reduction aswell as being able to tank projectiles
I was using them for a while, but to me it felt kind of bad to use? Even though the weapon swap animation is fairly fast, it felt slightly clunky every time I would use an ability that uses a different weapon. But maybe it's all in my head :D
Not sure about Explosive Shot as a Witchhunter. Its just 2 instead of 4 Bolts with that class and no Additional Bolt on Xbow which is very expensive on a good DPS Xbow. I only have half of area damage nodes but it feels kinda clunky.

tbh that 2 crossbow attacks is absolutely horrible for mouse movement. as i want to attack on right mouse button. and now i can't do that anymore. i use left as move only. just did the conversion and i don't know what to do, feel like the character is bricked atm.
can you do this with just 1 weapon somehow? or do you need 2 good weapons. I'd want to use the same good weapon, but with a different set of passives depending on which skill im using.
In the poe2 announcement video they said you could use weapon swap point as extra points for the the same weapon if you didn't want to swap between 2 weapons. How do you do that.
@@norf-kr6odno it’s not stun. It’s super annoying. It happens a lot with crossbows where you’ll go through the reload animation and then just stand there aiming. Sometimes it’ll just make the clicking sound. This has been my experience on ps5 anyway so, input method may vary.
So does it autoswap? like if i press explosive shot it uses wep 1 automatically, and if i use another skill it will swap to that tree automatically upon that skills use?
Yeah, definetly builds that use multiple elements like Pal said. I /only/ use lightning damage with my current build so having two weapons would be a bit janky as they'd both need to spec into lightning anyway. I guess if you used a build that was grenades AND bolts it could be nice to have a bombard crossbow for one and a different implicit for the other. I don't see how it would help the Bleed Xbow build I'm working on atm though, unless I wanted to put in a one-handed back up weapon with a shield to have occasional blocking?
Imo weapon swap is ok now. But is gonna scale a lot as we start getting more and more skills and weapons. Now if you are on mercenary you basically have support for crossbows and bows. But imagine when you can get support for spears, and swords, with the new gems that brings. That's when it is going to shine imo.
I'm pretty upset about this tbh; I like to optimise my builds. The weapon swap system makes it strictly optimal to make a separate single-target and clear spec. In order to do this with a sword + sword and sword + shield, you'd need three different swords. Not being able to reuse weapons or shields between the swaps is a huge deal breaker for me. I want to gear one character, not two.
I actually liked the feel better without the additional bolt mod, getting the timing between the two bolts and then reload didn’t feel good. Higher pdps crossbow without additional bolt felt better to me.
Stop saying off-hand, that's your Shield, Sceptre, or Dual Weapon within one Set. There are stats on the weapon set in use for both main and off hand. Set 1 and Set 2 have different pages that each have their own Main Hand/Off Hand.
Weapon swap is cute an all ... the big problem for swapping to another DMG ability and not some utility tech is that you need a SECOND awesome weapon. I know that's no problem if you can no life the game but for the 99% of the rest of players that's a huge no go sadly.
Actually makes gearing easier here because your clear doesn't need that high dmg to blow up packs. Your offhand (singletarget) can skip the "loads an additional bolt", making the crossbow a lot cheaper.

@phannhat385 it is working with two scepters and one wand. Don't know if it's working with quivers.

Now that it's cheaper to respec after the latest update I might experiment with this on my merc.
In the end game and haven’t needed any other skills but grenades and passive buffs

Why no + to proj skills?
In the poe2 announcement video they said you could use weapon swap point as extra points for the the same weapon if you didn't want to swap between 2 weapons. How do you do that.

What if you get minion nodes for say raging spirits? Do they snapshot or you lose the damage when you swap to your other weapon?
It snapshots for totems, so I'd imagine minions are the same.

AFAIK its just a crossbow bug. Sometimes when weapon swapping/reloading it bugs and you have to dodge roll to clear it (my experience anyway)

@@norf-kr6odno it’s not stun. It’s super annoying. It happens a lot with crossbows where you’ll go through the reload animation and then just stand there aiming. Sometimes it’ll just make the clicking sound. This has been my experience on ps5 anyway so, input method may vary.
I get the same thing with crossbow sometimes, have to click/shoot again to get it to shoot
So does it autoswap? like if i press explosive shot it uses wep 1 automatically, and if i use another skill it will swap to that tree automatically upon that skills use?
Yeah bro it automatically swaps you just need to designate which weapon it uses
Yeah, you just have to go into your skill tab and set your skills to only use one of your two weapons.

almost sounds like the intent was use-case builds. like you said: single target and aoe. and/or damage type swap.
Yeah, definetly builds that use multiple elements like Pal said. I /only/ use lightning damage with my current build so having two weapons would be a bit janky as they'd both need to spec into lightning anyway.
I guess if you used a build that was grenades AND bolts it could be nice to have a bombard crossbow for one and a different implicit for the other. I don't see how it would help the Bleed Xbow build I'm working on atm though, unless I wanted to put in a one-handed back up weapon with a shield to have occasional blocking?
Imo weapon swap is ok now. But is gonna scale a lot as we start getting more and more skills and weapons. Now if you are on mercenary you basically have support for crossbows and bows. But imagine when you can get support for spears, and swords, with the new gems that brings. That's when it is going to shine imo.

I'm pretty upset about this tbh; I like to optimise my builds. The weapon swap system makes it strictly optimal to make a separate single-target and clear spec. In order to do this with a sword + sword and sword + shield, you'd need three different swords. Not being able to reuse weapons or shields between the swaps is a huge deal breaker for me. I want to gear one character, not two.
Is "Loads 2 additional bolts" mod on crossbow is mandatory? I found alot good phys crossbows, but they all w/o that mod
He explained it in the previous video, good to have, but higher physical dmg always has the highest priority.
have the same question, sniped a 491 pdps one with 90% wed and fast attack speed for 35ex but without this mod
It's fine, you just need some jewels with crossbow reload speed and some mana leech / mana on kill on gear for mapping to feel good
I actually liked the feel better without the additional bolt mod, getting the timing between the two bolts and then reload didn’t feel good. Higher pdps crossbow without additional bolt felt better to me.

You are not adressing this in your Guide sadly...
Stop saying off-hand, that's your Shield, Sceptre, or Dual Weapon within one Set. There are stats on the weapon set in use for both main and off hand. Set 1 and Set 2 have different pages that each have their own Main Hand/Off Hand.

Issue: needing two 500 pdps crossbows
Weapon swap is cute an all ... the big problem for swapping to another DMG ability and not some utility tech is that you need a SECOND awesome weapon.
I know that's no problem if you can no life the game but for the 99% of the rest of players that's a huge no go sadly.
Actually makes gearing easier here because your clear doesn't need that high dmg to blow up packs. Your offhand (singletarget) can skip the "loads an additional bolt", making the crossbow a lot cheaper.
