We made this for our English class. We interpreted it as a boy that is "frozen, tied up" and "cast in lead". The captain then gives him a copy of "How to Win Friends and Influence People". The kid then wants to "earn a reputation" and is nice to people now because of the influence of the captain.

IMHO, this video basically distorts the message of the song; which to me is a commentary/take down of George W Bush: Don’t overthink things, just march straight ahead with no doubts or questions. This is NOT about some HS kid finding confidence and self discovery. Just my take, tho pretty sure I’m right.
