As it's quite common to have them fail in the same way over and over again, I took it apart to see what's wrong with them. In reality the problem is with plastic pin that holds gears in place. It's quite weak and breaks off, so the gear is loose. Because of that the force of loaded gears pushes it out a bit and it skips. Quick and permanent fix would be drilling case where the pin was and replacing it with proper diameter nail. It won't break off again. If you have basic handcrafting skills you can do it yourself. It will be cheaper and hopefully permanent fix. As far as I understand, it works based on load. It will work rotating gear until it gets enough resistance, then it turns off. Because of skipping gears it can't get enough force to trigger stopping that and it clicks for awhile until kind of timeout shuts it off. It's safety thing. That's why it works and is only annoying. It rotates properly but when it gets final position, it still rotates making clicking noise instead of stopping in place. It won't break anything (other than actuator itself) and does the job so no worries about driving with broken one.
The one making noise for me, and stopped working completely, is behind the driver's side. So I have to remove the whole dash, from what I've read before. You got the easy one here. Since there is 4, I was thinking of getting all 4 to change at once. But this video shows that if I need to change that one, I don't have to pull the whole dash apart. So I guess I will just change 2 on the driver's side for now. May only be one clicking, but I'll do 2, just to be sure. Thanks for the video. 👍
You have to pull the BCM fuse after install, keep it out for a couple minutes, then plug it back in so your blend doors recalibrate. That’s why they keep going bad.
Thank you so much for the direction. It took a while to ratchet (reach)😁 the back screw out of the glove box right side actuator. But it is fixed! Thanks again...
Damn dude, these mechanics want to charge 800-1200 for this quick fix. Wild! Thanks for the instructional vid, my ac has been cold on the driver and hot on the passengers. The clicking stopped a while ago, so definitely going to put some work in this weekend.
2015 charger rt... mine ain't clicking like that, but my driver side air is working and the passenger side is blowing hot as hell. I was leaning toward blend door actuator, so I'm hoping thats it. Thanks for the tutorial bro.
Did you find out what it was? Mines just started doing the same exact thing. Drivers side cold passenger side burning up. Never any clicking noise just started acting up today
4:50 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee uses same part and original was make in Korea. Hope the Chinese built you a good one. As of March 2020, MOPAR has a newer part number: 68079488AB I've read Dorman made units do not last. Genuine OEM part here: www.moparamerica.com/oem-parts/mopar-actuator-68079488ab 6:58 It appears you have removed the FRESH/RECIRCULATE Actuator. If you press the RECIRC button on dash repeatedly, I would expect that motor shaft to change directions. For people having symptom of no adjustment of HOT/COLD on passenger side, that actuator would have been to the left of the one removed in this video. The actuator mounted highest and in center, controls where the air comes out: FOOT/FACE/WINDSHIELD 9:38 Test for proper operations BEFORE you re-install the dash.
Yes sir only a v-6 I bought it after I had one as a rental a few years ago! I wanted something that looked sporty but still had 4 doors and a decent amount of room! It gets great fuel mileage and is close to idle at 75mph. I wish it was the AWD model. Thanks
I have a 2015 Challenger RT, right side vents go from blowing hot to cold then stay cold. Im thinking this is what the issue is? The left side is fine and responds to the digital controls.
i have 2015 dodge charger and one side is cold and the passenger side is hot. but the actuator isn't clicking????? does that mean its not the actuator or could that still be the issue?
I need your input. I have a 2014 Dodge Charger SE and my defrost was blowing out cold air in the driver side so I replaced the blend door actuator on the driver side and yet it’s still blowing out cold air when I cut on defrost but I do feel heat under the bottom by my feet. What do you suggest I need to do?
@@stunt610 well I don’t have that car anymore but when I took it to the dealership they told me the problem was my main blend door actuator. Still didn’t help😒I replaced both of the actuators and the problem came back again🤷🏽♂️
@@stunt610 it seemed that way & not to mentioned the dealership put in a bad actuator so they had to replace it. But after that it just came back. I’ve had the car going on 7-8yrs so my transmission started slipping so I just ended up trading the whole car overall.
Hey man mine has that problem it’s a 14 charger rt but it doesn’t make that tap noise instead it makes a buzzing noise what do you think it could be? Also it take long for it to change which vents blow the air if I have it on windshield air
@@WorldsOkayestFarmer okay so i found out where the noise is. It has another door actuator right in front on the one you showed us that’s probably the one that controls the vents idk if it’s the same part number but they look just like each other
Great video! Mine is making a weird noise, but not really a "clicking" noise, more of a soft whining noise.. that starts and stops continually. But if the culprit is the one you just removed, than that is not too difficult at all. (I had my middle one replaced by the dealer a couple of years ago)
Help I’ve replaced mine twice and it keeps breaking off the white gear piece. Could it a software/computer issue? I noticed it rotates in both directions multiple times after shutting down the car
I followed your directions but now it still makes louder noise than before. Do you know if the left passenger accuator needs to be put in a certain way with the back gear? I've tried all the way open and all the way closed without success.
Now that I replaced the blend doors, it was working normal for a while. One day I rrplaced the tires and now the heat comes on and off for a while after starting it. So irritating when it's hot outside. Sometimes I get clicking on the right side. That is only once in a while. But the driver's side heat gets hot, cold, hot, cold, hot, cold, hot, cold, then it works normal.
So just a question but does this apply the passenger side blend door actuator in a 2015 Dodge Charger? I turn my ac on and the driver side blows cold and the passenger side blows hot, had it diagnosed by dodge but they wanted $600 for the replacement if this is the problem then idk about the dealer services lol
So this is my personal experience that I just went through. I have a 2015 dodge charger, I replaced the blend door actuators myself twice, had the HVAC recalibrated and none of that worked. I had to have the distribution housing replaced in my car. Total cost was priced at $1,900. 8 hours of labor and the part costed around $250.
Hey brother, I have a 2017 charger. I’m assuming of the four actuators the same one you replaced will be my issue initially there was a clicking but now there is absolutely no clicking whatsoever and it takes turning on and off the AC in order for their AC to actually start blowing out of any of the vents the forward facing vents so hopefully it’s the same actuator you changed and not a combination of all of them, but that is my issue if that sounds familiar please let me know.
No i dont think so there are 4 of these in the dash. They blend air for temp. You need the mode door actuator under dash by steering wheel I believe it controls where air is going Its explained here www.chargerforumz.com/threads/air-only-coming-out-of-defrost-vent.194700/
