Edinburgh, Scotland born James Connolly. Born Edinburgh 1868 and lived in Edinburgh until 1898 aged 30. James Connolly, made in Edinburgh, international universal hero for all creeds, nations and colours. Died for Ireland. Died for all. RIP James Connolly.
I had the privilege of singing this song in Galway in 1993 on the closure of the Digital factory and the loss of 780 jobs in a non-unionised factory. If possible all people should seek unionised employment and the support it entails or face sudden and arbitrary loss of their livelihoods. This lesson is stlii being learned today by many workers, especially those in the "gig" economy.
The chilling lyrics run "they carried him out from in the jail".....James Connolly had been injured in the rising and was unable to walk to his execution. The firing squad placed him in a chair and shot him while he was still badly injured. British soldiers shooting a cripple. The executions led to a seismic change in Irisih politics and huge enmity between British and irish people, reverberations which last even to this day.
@@paddymac5161 Tricky thing the Irish language. A couple of fadas missing as well......Tiocfaidh ár lá.....the "alt gr" button does the trick. Irish has a diacritical mark on every vowel unlike french which only has it on e.
Funny that you mention James Connolly. Amongst rampant ant- Jew sentiments in revolutionary Ireland He was one who defended the Jews... Even wrote about the Jews having Israelite “ state in Palestine.
I very much doubt that he would have been on the side of oppression and the powerful foreign force using cruelty to subdue the people of a nation, maybe he did sympathise with the jew people but as I said not like how it is

James Connolly the great Working Class Socialist. His vision was much greater than any narrow Nationalistic idea of how our Country could flourish.
