with zenithal highlighting, the sunlight comes from one direction primarily (although there will be light bending around an object due to natural physics), but you don't want an even highlight around the subject - make the area you want the focus to be brightest, ie: around the chest and cockpit. spray your grey and white from a higher angle on less important points like the back. this will draw the eye of the viewer right to where you want the attention to be.
Yup good points! Gray followed by white zenithal can provide better results but requires finesse and controlled airbrush work. But yes that would be the extra mile approach.
Digging the hand-painted symbols. Waterslides/decals are cool and all, but freehanding seems like that little something extra that stands out. I've seen free-handed chapter symbols on Space Marines and it always puts a smile on my face. Nice work!
@@IntruziX yes I’ve been using AP for years. Their first formulations were serviceable, but very inconsistent and the first version of Speedpaints reactivated. But their 2.0 speedpaints and now the Fanatics line are just fantastic.
Gloss Varnish and Matte Varnish are overkill for plastic. When I painted metal Warmachine armies I used both. But since dealing mostly with plastic and resin now a days, I find the matte varnish is enough to protect for weekly tabletop use for BattleTech/MCP/GW Minis/Shatterpoint/Malifaux I have painted.
I wasn’t sure where the crab’s cockpit was and there was one article I found on the interwebz that said it was on top of of the mech so that’s what sent with. But yeah it was the one mech I wasn’t sure of!
@@no.6minis Depending on the model it's either on the front of the nose or by the radar thing. You can see examples of both on Sarna. I think the one you're painting has the intended cockpit at the front of the nose.
That is a great boxed set, with eight very good mechs in them. I would attempt to make two equal strength lances, and paint each lance in a different faction color. That would be a fun project!
Thanks for the video. I have already painted a copy of this box so it was interesting to see how you painted the same mechs. One questions: where is your accent from? When you pronounce ⟨sword⟩, you seem to pronounce it with a [w], I have only ever heard it with the w as a silent letter.
Very nice tutorial. Are you thinning the main colors too? You mention thinning the silver, but I don't recall anything about the blue or red. I haven't used speedpaints yet and don't know what to expect with them.
I only usually use speedpaint medium on colors that are too dark. Broadsword Silver in particular is really dark so I used medium in it. But the other colors were at the tint I wanted so I didn’t do anything with them.
I like that you hand paint the logos. Its a nice personalized touch you don't see often enough.
God, guns, and Battletech. Comments for Comstar's algorithm.
Pay your hyper pulse bills!
you make it look so easy, I'm going to be painting my first mechs today, I haven't painted in about 16 years! I'm excited. Star Adders ftw
Welcome back to the hobby! Mechs are a great way to break back in.
Yes! Love battletech! More mechs!
My favorite game system too!
Dude I'm digging that freehand!
Thank you! It’s fun to do 😊

Decals are definitely easier believe me! But at the same time you’re right, there’s a satisfaction to freehanding logos!
awesome simple jobs that look incredible! Well Done, Nice video too!😄
Thanks for sharing. Nice and simple.
nice vid 👍, a tipp for freehands, unload your brush more, that way your lines get smaller
Yes I agree. Less paint does help with finer details. It’s definitely a finesse activity!
Subscribed - great that you use AP paints

Yeah it’s more of a habit for me to double coat. Chipping paint isn’t fun so might as well iron-clad it. But I’m sure one coat for plastics is fine.
Great video man. Keep em coming..
Thank you!
Always thought the crabs window was at the front of the body, there is a spot that looks like it should be it.

Very informative. Thank you. 😁
very cool!!😃😊👏👏👍🤙🤞✌ but if i were painting standard armies id just go with the decals as many ppl print those!!😉
Yeah I can’t deny that decals are faster. Almost all my space marines have decals. But freehand is just fun to do!
but you have a guide to finding the cockpit. In a crab, the glass is in front of the body.
Are you sure? I thought it was by the radar dish thing. I’ll look it up again!

I’m thinking of doing something similar for the “game of armoured combat” box. Any specific tips for that?

Would handbrushing and dry brushing the black and white primers be effective as well?
I dont got a airbrush
Yes definitely. That would work very similarly.

Can i use speedpaint beowulf blue instead highlord blue?
@@kiithsomtaaw2433 yeah if that’s the tint you prefer definitely. It’s deeper colored and a little purple but should be fine.

could I ask about the channel name? is it related to Novi, MI?
@@Lysurgic you decoded it yes 😊
bro just used the same tip brush for every part
I used three different brushes.
