    I run a very similar setup with the A300 and a RTX 3060 12GB connected through the same ADT-LINK dock.
    I have two tips:
    1. you can connect the dock to the NVMe port on the backside of the board. then the cable doesn't have to be bent and it goes through where the metal plate should be on the I/O port side if you take it off.
    2. for the power supply you can get a cheap Dell DA-2. they can supply up to 200-220W of power while being completely fanless. this is ideal for smaller graphics cards that don't go above that power limit.

    This review is next level!
    And definitely not surprised to see the ASUS STRIX GPUs coming out on top. You can see it just by looking at the PCB. The Asus STRIX GPUs have more components than those of any other vendors. They absolutely made no compromises when they designed them.
    I found out about ASRock by comparing specifications of several reliable GPU servers. I constantly saw EPYCD8 and ROMED8 motherboards popping up. Later bought one of each, and both systems have been running flawlessly 24/7 (crunching Asian chess games). The amount of PCI lanes on those are incredible. ASRock is just a great hardware vendor.
    Because of those good experiences, I finally had the guts to buy an X300, to build a computer for my 6-year-old son. But my hands are still itching. Assembling computers is so addictive. Great review!
    PS: I find it interesting to see the cutouts in the case for (what looks like) an RS232 connector. I wonder if it's possible to plug that on to the motherboard somewhere.
    Wondering, did yours get shipped with a CPU fan? It's strange but I didn't expect one, but my X300 got delivered with an additional box containing a free CPU fan. Then when I ordered my AMD CPU it got shipped with a 2nd fan. And in mean time had already ordered a 3rd CPU fan. -- I should open a fan-shop website.

    • @manongunboxing
      @manongunboxing  Год назад

      Yes it did come with a cpu fan. The amd stock fan will only fit if you deshroud it. Costs asrock less than $8 for it but saves them a ton of support inquiries, and for sure its cost was inclusive to the price anyway.

    Hello, currently there is R43SG 4.0 (supports PCIe4.0). M.2 PCIe4.0 x4 has double the bandwidth than m.2 PCIe3.0 x4 that you have on your deskmini X300. I would love to see if the performance difference for the RTX 3070 can be significantly reduced if a laptop/miniPC has a PCIe gen 4 slot to be connected with the eGPU adapter. O,O

    Excellent assessment! I myself will be putting together a similar build, though with the R43SF and a PowerColor RX 6400 LP. My plan is to use the R43SF's slot power (via included SATA power cable) to run the GPU, and mount it to the side of the DeskMini. I'm glad to see that this type of solution works without much trouble!

I got the same setup with a HP g2 mini with a i5 6500 and ASrock x300 seem like a good upgrade and it works with R3G 👍 awesome ..i think your setup would work better if you cut the case and have the ribbon cable run through the hole in the case. that's what i did with the g2 mini

    Your tutorial of this dock is the best. You describe all the connections in a very detailed manner.
    Thank you so much. It is really helping me out
    It's been a long time since i last saw a PSU though. Can you please tell me if the 4-pin i need to connect to the dock is always marked as "CPU" on the cables?

    • @manongunboxing
      @manongunboxing  9 месяцев назад

      I wouldn't confidently say "always", but more often than not yes. Also, the 4-pin power connector that can fit will _always_ be a CPU power connector. The other 4-pin connector that you'd see is a molex (won't fit), and the one that looks like a CPU connector is a PCIE connector, 6+2-pin (also won't fit). In other words, don't worry, it's somewhat fool-proof, even the cut-outs are designed to fit on certain connectors only (unless you mash the cables extensively, you won't be able to plug the PCIE connector).

  • @mdmali2
    @mdmali2 9 месяцев назад +1

    hello, did you have to connect the PSU to the eGPU or was the power supplied through the ADT Link? I was looking to do something similar but I didn't know how much power I would need with a RTX 3060TI

    • @manongunboxing
      @manongunboxing  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, I had to connect the PSU to the eGPU with the 24-pin. This will technically power up the PCIE connector + 2 8-pin power cables. 3060 Ti has 200W TBP, get good ATX PSU say 400W or more to account for transient spikes.
      My general rule for PSU is get the best one that can fit your budget as PSU can be transferred easily in the future.

    Is it necessary to connect a monitor? Or I can use the graphics directly from the laptop without needing a monitor (I don't have thundelbolt, it is through PCIe)

    • @manongunboxing
      @manongunboxing  5 месяцев назад

      Likely yes to utilize it. If you use your laptop monitor, you will not be able to utilize the external gpu as it will render with the igpu or your laptop’s dgpu (depending on load). Though some laptops can capture the external gpu back to the laptop monitor, but very rare.
