- Alcácer do Sal was successively occupied since the 18th century. VI a.C. having been one of the most important urban and military centers of the peninsular Islamic territory. During the Roman occupation it minted coin with the inscription Imperatoria Salacia, dating from that time, according to some authors, the change of the name of the locality for Salacia.
The medieval castle dates from the 12th century, built on previous fortifications, and in the 8th century, under Islamic rule, Alcácer was an important urban and military center with a powerful and effective defensive system. Muslims here have developed shipbuilding.
Conquered in 1158 by D. Afonso Henriques, with the help of the Espatarios, it is again passed to Almohad hands in 1191 (of which the eighth tower remains) to be definitively conquered by D. Afonso II who donates it to the Order of Santiago.
In the thirteenth century there is a campaign of reconstruction of the castle and would have, at the time, a structure much larger and more imposing than today.
Throughout century XV the castle gradually lost the military functions. In 1573 was founded here, inside the castle the Convent of Our Lady of Aracaeli in place of the palace of the Order of Santiago. This one remained until the extinction of the religious orders.
In 1998 the former convent space was transformed into an inn, and ten years later opened the Archaeological Crypt of Alcácer do Sal Castle.
(1) Legend of Saint Ursula and the Eleven Thousand Virgins:
Eleven thousand virgins martyred together with St. Ursula by a pagan army in Cologne in a Catholic-based legend.
according to the Golden Legend, a young woman of exceptional beauty named Ursula, daughter of a Breton sovereign, secretly converted to Christianity promising to keep her virginity. When she was asked to marry by a heathen prince named Ereo, son of the King of England, her father acceded suspicious, imposing, among other conditions, that her daughter be accompanied by ten virgins, and another thousand for her and for each of the ten accompanied her, and that the marriage took place within three years. On a trip, an angel announces to Ursula that she will die martyred. Ursula decides to make a pilgrimage to Rome to obtain the consecration of his secret vows. In Rome she was received with many honors by Pope Cyril, who consecrated her vows of virginity. Receiving a revelation that he will die martyr with the virgins, the Pope renounces the papacy and, along with many bishops, leaves with them. They go to Germany, where they find Colony besieged by the Huns, who kill all the virgins. The Huns prince falls in love with Ursula and wants to take her for a wife, but she resists and he kills her with an arrow.

(2) António Rodrigues: António Rodrigues, architect, was master of royal works, and later also of fortifications, between 1564 and 1590. Having taught geometry and perspective in the royal class, it was in this context that presumably he wrote this anonymous treatise of architecture, whose first version is codex 3675 of the National Library of Portugal. The Church of Santa Maria da Graça or the sacristy and house of the chapter of the Monastery of Jesus, both in Setúbal, is recognized as a work of its own and is attributed to the renovation of the Chapel of the Eleven Thousand Virgins in Alcácer do Sal

Segundo a norma da Língua Portuguesa a cedilha só é necessária apenas nos casos em que, imediatamente a seguir à consoante , surjam as vogais , e .

O vídeo está espectacular, se as informações adicionais fossem relatadas, então ficaria quase perfeito. Muito bom trabalho. Também já passei por Alcácer do Sal, mas simplesmente de passagem. Na próxima vez vou visitar a vila. Quando vamos de férias seguimos directamente para o Algarve e nem nos damos conta que deixamos a para trás terras encantadoras. Mas nota-se que o turismo está a mudar e as linhas localidades até aqui um pouco esquecidas ainda vão renascer e receber a fatia do bolo a que têm direito.

Na época de D.João V, (diamantes e ouro do Brasil) quando se deveria ter investido na industria, o rei optou por investir em ostentação , e na importação de bens, que poderiamos produzir aqui.
Em parte poderá ser verdade mas não completamente. O aqueduto das águas livres em Lisboa ou a biblioteca Joanina em Coimbra não me parecem ser luxos
