Original DJI Goggles (White and Black) - My Battery Replacement Gone Wrong Might Benefit You!

- There aren't many videos out there on how to change the batteries on the original DJI Goggles "The White Ones" and for the Racing Edition RE "The Black Ones".. so I thought I would give it a crack. What I discovered is that there are a number of tamper proof devices used to help to ensure you will damage your goggles permanently while attempting the repair. I still think that it is possible to achieve, but there is one section in particular where you will need to be extra careful to ensure the ribbon attachment doesn't break.
The dimensions of the individual cells, each with the unusual voltage of 3.8v, by my measurements are 30 x 64 x 4mm, not including the metallic protruding tails (just the cell dimensions).
I hope there are some useful tips in here and hopefully you will be able to avoid the major pitfall that I encountered and get to replace the batteries successfully.
Ty for the video. Looks.like I have a bad battery after having if for 6 years or so.
the white goggle i have sat for along time, when tried to charge it would not accept charge at all and was flashing orange for a day, left it on the charger overnight in a safe location. then next day it just powered up started charging and worked like new. saved me the need to heck it!
I have found that too. Even with this set, in retrospect, I should've just left it to charge. It probably would've come back to life.
thank you for posting this. It appears it is a one time use throw away goggle. mine is 6 y.o and will not charge.
You're welcome. Of course, I was hoping to fix them.. but even with the negative final result, it is still worth seeing how hard it is to replace the battery.
After opening, perhaps a good idea would be to install a battery externally and connect the electronics with a cable and connector.
The ribbon connector makes it tricky. Do you know how to do this?
@@pohaa try using the original charge plug. make an extension cord and connect an external battery. The Avata drone's DJI glasses are already like this.
@@pohaa You will probably have to disconnect the internal battery that is damaged to avoid heating or short circuiting.
@@ediralves9449 the broken ribbon on this one renders it useless, but it's a good idea for other sets with a failing battery 👍👍👍
hi.....nice video .....
Where did you get this battery please?
looking a the disassembled headband. it seems it would be better to go in from the back. Even if it means destructive way of cutting that outside rear part of the band and get to the battery that way. maybe then the ribbon cable can be saved of destruction. thought?
Nop
I don't know how you would do that? It's hard plastic, so would need some serious work to get in from the back.
Looks like battery cell is generic and 2200 or 2400 Mah. 2 cell s or 4 cells? Going in from back LOOKS LIKE a good idea (in hindsight). -SK
4 cells on each side. Either way, not damaging the ribbon is nigh on impossible.
Did you get the cells and flat cable...? The same thing happened to me when I opened it. I need the shopping link maybe Aliexpress.
I don't they are available. The whole thing is set up like a tamper-proof item. The ribbon is designed to break. DJI is usually pretty good to work on, I have found.. but they have made an exception for us with these goggles. It's a damn shame, because they are great goggles and deserve to be repairable.
which is the model name of this battery?
I'm not sure. They are 3.8v cells with dimensions: 30 x 64 x 4mm each.
Looks like they just built it for that one time to and bye bye product.
Yep, it's a bummer because it is some beautiful tech that deserves to be repairable. In my perfect world, it would be mandatory to allow for battery replacement in products.
Throw these shitty googles away and buy something new
They were well ahead of their time, with a high resolution digital image, head tracking and so on. There is nothing shitty about them.
@@pohaa Yes, but now their specs are very outdated.
