Raising Autism Awareness at the North Carolina Zoo

Nancy and her son Gray, a young adult on the spectrum, travel to the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro to raise awareness about autism. The zoo invited this mother and son team to meet with staff to talk about autism and the ways the zoo can welcome and support individuals with autism and their families. Nancy, an Autism Resource Specialist, knows that by making experiences in our wider community more accessible, “we are opening up the world and creating more opportunities for people with autism.”
