    I remember taking off in this majestic aircraft - lifting off gently from the still waters then slamming brutally into a nearby forest along the shore. Good times.

    The biggest battle of the Felixstowe being on 4 June 1918 when three, circling over a fourth that had landed on sea after fuel failure, were set upon 14 German W.29 seaplanes, shooting down six without loss to themselves!

    Magz, I just love watching your videos. Funnily mostly about games I'd never play but it's still a pleasure watching you play them. The commentaries are just spot on with a mix of comments on the game itself, some history and explanation of what you're trying to do.
    Well done.

    Only one thing: The "Kriegsmarine" (Kreegsmarine sounds better than Craigsmarine btw ;-))existed from 1935 onwards, during WW1 the german Navy was called "kaiserliche Marine" (And I have no clue how to type out how you would pronounciate that) that would be the imperial Navy.

    • @MagzGTV
      @MagzGTV  7 лет назад +4

      When I was talking about the Kriegsmarine I was talking about WW2 U-boat operations.
      Just pointing out an often forgotten fact that It wasn't the first time German U-boats had hunted in the channel. There operation and tactics had been established, Tested and proven effective during the first World War.

    • @samsilibam
      @samsilibam 7 лет назад +4

      Well, you said that the the Kriegsmarine didn't do this for the 1st time, they have done it all the way through WW1... I'm obviously not a native english speaker but in german language that would mean that they (- >the Kriegsmarine) did it. Which implies they were existant. But that doesn't matter, I just tried to share some info in case you didn't know. :-)

    • @MagzGTV
      @MagzGTV  7 лет назад +16

      Yes I admit I worded that poorly, Should have been clearer. And no, Thank you for bringing it up, Hopefully people will read the comments and see the info as well. :)

      Well, while we're on it... the part of a sub you referred to as a "coning" tower is actually a "conning" tower. Other than these hiccups, and very well done narration, smooth enough to be professional!

    "mission orders are to sink it" well easy enough then, just ask them nicely, maybe give them some cookies, and im sure they'll be willing to dive. :P

    Love seaplanes too, but it always amazed me that no seaplane manufacturer incorporated a retractable rudder to assist in sea movements. However that is one beautiful plane.

      Exactly. Floatplanes didn't even have water rudders until the 1940s, to my knowledge.

    G'day Magz! If you're looking for a classification on that convoy cruiser, I would best estimate it's one of the Arethusa class of light cruisers- there were 8 of them built, oil-fired. I say this due to the three funnels (the earlier class, the Town, had four, and later classes had 2 save the C-class), and the lack of any significant aft mast.
    As for which ship out of the class she could be... any I believe. Arethusa herself had been sunk the year previous.
    The "cruiser" with the floodlight isn't a cruiser, at least if the silhouette is to be believed. It looks to be any ol' freighter.

    With the current SALE going on, and prices at 2/3 OFF now is the time to buy - at least until the next sale.
    If you start off with nothing but the free download and purchased everything = $134 instead of $391 (close enough).
    Instead of buying 3 A/C at regular price you can now grab 9 A/C - triple the FUN.
    Love the vid - MORE please!

    Such a beautiful plane.
    Regarding cockpit visibility: I'm not sure, but from the look of it, in addition to guidance from the forward gunner, the pilot may have been able to improve his forward visibility simply by standing up. It is after all a very stable platform, with an open cockpit...
    I wonder if that works in trackIR/VR...

    Hey Magz, I think I remember pilot's saying they use to quarter across the track of the submarine. so they could see it for longer, since it would be to the left or right of the nose of the plane. and since you aim where the sub "will be" not where it is. It made a lot of sense to me. just something I saw watching videos. I miss COD, and the young flying officer you did for a bit also. great videos as usual. keep up the fun

    • @MagzGTV
      @MagzGTV  7 лет назад +3

      No I meant the Royal Air Force,
      The RAF officially came into service in April 1918, The same time the Royal Flying Corps was dissolved.
      Prior to the RAF the Royal Flying Corps didn't operate Felixstowe F.2A's, They where solely operated by the Royal Naval Air Service.
      Edit: As to your second question, Honestly Grab what ever looks most interesting too you, All the campaigns are great as are the aircraft.

      Probably minimal at best - smallarms, possibly a MG - and remember that AA in ww1 tended to be very hit or miss anyhow. Most ww1 U-boats were comparitively tiny, and simply lacked the space to carry much up top.
