  • Meet Janet, greyhound owner and founder of 'Greyhound Walks' a charity set up to support and unite owners of rescue greyhounds in the UK.
Janet explains what makes Greyhounds special, what sort of home and owner they are looking for and the type of care they need.
Plus, we discover that Greyhounds can, and often do, live with cats and small dogs and also don't actually need a lot of exercise!
A great video to watch if you are thinking of getting a greyhound or considering adopting a rescue dog.

Great video. Hoping to get one of these soon. Had a a few dogs in the past including my first wife whippets. She was also a kennel hand. I was blown away by their beautiful nature, despite being in a racing kennel. Our only concern is our current cat. That we also got from a rescue home. Hopefully all will be well.

Love what you are doing for these beautiful racing greyhound’s. These beautiful animals worked very hard, and they deserve to belong to a wonderful, loving family. All greyhound’s are gorgeous, and will make great pets. You are amazing. ❤️🐕

It really breaks my heart to learn that the Black Males struggle to get rehomed. The first Greyhound I ever got to meet was a big black GH called Charlie, he was the absolute sweetest!

We just adopted our first black greyhound today. He was a champion racedog, now retired due to injury. His name is Charlie!!! :)

It is very sad but black dogs and black cats both have harder time getting adopted.

@bonniecarruth8429 I was about to mention that this is the case with black cats too.
I'm looking at adopting a retired greyhound and now I know that a black boy would be a good idea if his personality suits our home - and if our family suits his needs ❤

I would love a black greyhound! I know that’s a purely superficial thing, and we need to bond and 'click' with whatever dog 'selects' us… but I think that’s sad and strange that they’re the hardest to rehome.

They are actually prone to osteosarcoma (bone cancer) and that is far more prevalent in racing lines than showing lines. The former breeds for speed not longevity.

We're hopefully picking up our new ex-racer next week. He's completely black but with white toes and tip of his tail.
We're a bit apprehensive to be honest! IVe not owned a dog for 25 years so will be strange to have one in the house again,.

I have a thing for black dogs. I am concerning adopting one when we move to the country this year. They are so sweet.

You said people think greyhounds don’t have many brain cells - is that true? I thought they were considered to be quite intelligent?

Wow, I can’t believe people think black greyhounds are unattractive. That’s honestly one of the best coat colors. Clean, simple, and regal. Imagine a black dog, or any breed, with a diamond studded collar… they give such an ancient vibe tk me. Lighter coats can potentially show more imperfections, and so could black, I suppose, but I digress. 😂

Are you still meeting up? We have a black girl and she looks scary but so isn’t! We also have a whippet pup (pup-ish! 2 years) but our pup has almost taught her home life and has help her settle into our house.
    Where do you meet? ❤️
