I started my home gym because of lock downs. It's a eye opener at how expensive the equipment is. So I've been watching a lot of videos of tips and mistakes to avoid when starting out, those have helped alot.

Awesome! Our general advice is start with fitness goals, then find programming, then get the gear you need. You'll save more and can always add over time

Where do people live that there are "lockdowns"?

@@asvpab I'm in Sydney, Australia. We are currently in lock down. Going on our second month of this, sucks big time.

I started building my home gym before Covid - but it became significantly more valuable throughout 2020. Now I am 100% home gym, with a virtual coach and a virtual CrossFit community that helps keep me accountable and coaches me to meet my goals. Fringe has been my go-to for high quality and reasonably priced equipment. I don't think I'll ever go back to paying for a gym membership. Thank you Fringe for validating that decision!!

You can do bicep curl in your power rack in the garage gym and no one will give you the stink eye!😤😤😤

Summarized perfectly the reasons I’m proud of having a home gym! I have a couple more.
    1. It becomes your temple: like want to relax after a hard day of work, been having a bad day, or just want to empty your mind and relax? The gym becomes the perfect place
    2. You can listen to what you want and not worry about having headphones (or just workout in silence which is quite refreshing).
Now to be entirely fair, I personally wouldn’t seek to lift heavy on my home gym for safety reasons, I’m making sure to only use weights I can handle in the 8-15 rep range, that way I ensure even if I get to failure in a bad situation I can bail out safely enough. The moment I decide I want to lift really heavy I’ll for sure decide to go to a commercial gym just to get a spotter, but realistically speaking I barely get any real benefit from that, I’m someone in their mid 30s to works sitting all day in front of a computer, what do I win by benching idk over 120kg if I only want to stay healthy

I prefer commercial gyms because there is always someone who will call the EMT if I got injured, commercial grade gym equipment is usually of higher quality than home grade gym equipment, and there are other people to keep me motivated.

My local gym is a small gym, charity based. 1 squat rack 1 deadlift platform. Today a guy refused to leave the rack to perform sumo deadlifts (from the floor, safety pins removed - stated he requires the rack so he can push his feet against it in the sumo stance), calve raises, and curls. That's why a garage gym is worth it.

Hey Travon, keep those bumpers available (either colored or savage) as well as the wonder bar (I think you recommended bushings). I should be ready to buy in September 🙂. I’ll be in touch.

The reason I won’t go to the gym is the membership. Gyms did it to themselves. Their memberships are terrible. The last one made me go in person to cancel. It’s nuts. Let alone the ones that have contracts that look like they were written by congress.
