I purchased this marvel a year ago, but the EC-1, after being extremely irritated by the excessive noise produced by the UA 710 Infinity during my voiceover gigs, even after replacing the tube with a four-ring damped Genalex Gold Lion, made a significant difference. But since I have the Lauten Eden, I can skip both amp and compressor to plug it directly into the line input of my audio interface, a trick recommended by the mic's designer Brian Laudenslager, and it works like a U47. No more mouth clics and no more sibilance!
I daily drive the Cranborne Camden EC1 and I absolutely love it! Fantastically clean sound in the neutral mode! But the Thump and Cream are genuinely useful for me! I tend to put Thump around 40% and Cream around 20%, just enough to notice without being too much :) Awesome to hear you go through it on the Lauten!
Thanks Dapper Dan! I remember you mentioning the EC1 a while back and it reminded me that I should demo the Camden for the channel. I think it's such a cool preamp. A little touch of cream on a 416 was the first time I used a 416 and actually liked it.
Thank you! Definitely shows the coloration in the MT-48 preamp, comparatively and you're right, it is a signal that would need to be massaged in post to tame that sibilance.
@@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff I've got an 88RLB, which I love. Was considering this, but I think it's too clean for me. I can see it getting harsh stacking 6 vocal tracks. Will probably pickup a 1073 next. Hard to go wrong with that preamp.
@@maxaeonmusic I think you're right. Stacking tracks with it may not be optimal. I can see putting one or two of the stacked tracks through the Camden to shake it up with some of that mojo, but overall, for music, you can't go wrong with a 1073-style pre in your collection.
This is reminiscent of the Rupert Neve Design "Silk" red/blue circuit. Nice options but I don't imagine going beyond 10-25% cream. 100% reminds me of overdriving the SoftTube Saturation plugin.
Yo Mark! Yes! They’re pretty much all the same, adding secondary and third harmonic saturation square wave simulated tubey grunge fizz in ways that remind you there’s nothing like the real thing. But I agree that sprinkled on with a dash of Cream, you can get something very usable for VO.
Hello, I am using Neumann mt 48. Do you think this preamp is worth adding to 500 ADAT? Is it better than Neumann MT 48's preamps or what is the difference? I am very curious about your thoughts since I know you use both. Thank you.
I don’t know if it’s “better” than the built in preamps, but it can be cleaner and you have mojo to dirty it up, so it’s a really nice tonal option to add. I’m all into seeing what other preamps I can plug into the mt-48 right now.
I bought one and sent it back. It was “ok” but just didn’t have the top tier feel. The build felt kinda low end. Very “Golden Age”. I hated the stepped gain. Steps were too big I wanted to love it but…meh.
@@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff John Hardy M1. Legend. I owned the M1 before buying the Camden. I was just “looking” and the cream/thump had me interested. And I’m nit picky. Camden is a nice unit. Just wasn’t going to force its way into rotation. Love the videos.
Wow. This was a pre on my list. I was thinking of picking it up maybe in the new year. Sounds great!
If you do, I would love to hear how it compares to the Grace.

No kidding? Thats pretty incredible you can just go direct line in with the Eden! Wow. The Lauten mics just keep continuing to impress.
I can't wait for your review of the Lauten Eden.

Great demo. Brings out more sibilance in that mic than the other pre. With the right mic and the cream it would be good for pop vocals.

Thanks! I really think these Camden 500 pres are pretty awesome for the price.
