So Mike, you have the north farm that is getting bigger and bigger, and the west farm now. I know you've said you are not leaving the south farm cause that is home-base, but we almost never see you doing anything at the south farm anymore. Would you be willing to talk about your total situation, between the 3 farms and the costs involved with spreading out over that distance? that would be interesting to learn. thanks!
Mike doesn't usually go into to many details, most farmers don't. The north farm got started because his wife is from that area. Farmers like to spread out their acres if possible to take advantage of different weather, different soil and those types of things. He does a lot at the south farm still but with his brothers and dad there he can spend his time elsewhere. His older brother doesn't like to be on video and out of respect for that and the others around there he doesn't record as much when he's at the south farm
We usually just set the truck brakes and leave the trailer brakes off. By the time the truck air leaks off and the trailer brakes come on, the pads are already froze up and are too cold to freeze to the drum.
There’s 2 kinds of people-those who can barely drag themselves across the 5:00 finish line and then think they’ve put in a long day. Then there’s the other kind, who at 11:00pm are still hoping to get a start on the next day by getting their trucks loaded. I’ve been both of those guys.
Mike over here in the UK we have a blue button on the trailers used for shunting so when you push it in it releases the brakes on the trailers and they won’t come back on until you pull the button out again regardless of air pressure
I’ve been watching the weather Mike and it looks like you got some snow on the south farm too! I hoping that your winter wheat is going to be 60 bushels next summer 😮
Most definitely at the south farm & they really need some better yields than previous years. They are strong people to remain positive in those situations. 😀
Good to hear from ya Mike, I’d be curious as to how well a snowblower would work for the north farm? Might help out with getting the snow out as much as possible not to mention when it gets blown and lands it packs down quite a lot and might help to prevent as much snow drift. Cheers from Alberta
Brake pads and drums will be below freezing before the air goes off. They won't freeze up unless ambient is high enough to cause melting and often not even then.
I know it’s different but I drove school bus for twenty four years in northern utah. We a Ways heated the brakes up by riding them for a mile or less but that dried them off so they wouldn’t freeze. When I forgot boy they were frozen.
Back in the day, I had the 1st Gen SnowWing (HLA will remember this if they’re watching), brand new Fendt 724 and… I open the wings and they jam in my tires. Not good. The 2nd gen doesn’t do that.
Just a thought that might work. A Milwaukee battery powered air compressor hooked up to trucks air tanks. I think it would cycle on and off automatically when air pressure got low and would keep your emergency brakes from setting. Would probably help add a few more days of sit time or maybe a week or longer.
Leave your trailers aired up. I know they will slowly leak down but by the time they do your brake and wheel temps will be ice cold and shouldn’t freeze together
@@dirtdevil70 i’m guessing a lot of the people, including myself or not as faithful with him as we are with dirt perfect or equipment, C&C equipment out of Ohio. Some of us have really faithful people we follow closely. Regardless happy Thanksgiving belated God bless.
As iced up as they are I would be concerned about valve linkages and airlines. Have seen ice bust fitting off before and thats no fun in the snow either! Nice plow rig though!
Work smarter, not harder. That's a great idea, you can start the trucks & let them warm up, fill the cart quickly without all the shunting back & forth, know exactly how much weight you're loading. Infact, I can't think of any negatives to your idea, I hope Mike sees your comment & tries it out, make a good video too Mike.😃
Many leases have hours restrictions, limits & extra costs. Similar to a car lease, you get say 60k over 3 yrs & if you exceed that you incur extra costs for each additional mile. Sorry if I'm 'preaching to the choir' but not everyone is knowledgeable of these things. 😀
Ya just have to adjust & adapt/dress for the weather & use common sense here in Minnesota. It's the idiots that get themselves in trouble. Basically the same lessons they taught us in Marine Corps Boot Camp in 1979.
Easier said than done. Mike has family, land, housing & other business commitments down south, although I guess he could phase those out over time, but that's not how Mike rolls. Watch more videos & find out for yourself. 😀
@frankg5466 Use the blade in combination with the snow blower. Blade to clear the large area to piles of snow. Snow blower to remove the piles snow before they become too big and the source drifting.
Mike, why do you have moose guards on your trucks but not on yer tractors or combines? Or even grain carts. You never know when a big old hairy beast with a huge rack is gonna come along at full speed and run into the back of a piece of equipment. But I should probably stop talking about my wife that way.
Why plow and buildup piles of snow when you can buy a 2-stage Schulte blower, shoot the snow 200’ up to be blown in the wind to your neighbors. Honestly Mike you’re not working productively. 😂
Haha it's because blowers are great in certain situations but you re not gonna take a $30k blower out the fields to clear a path for trucks and grain bags and risk rocks. No, that's what blades are for... And since you already have the blade, use it. 🙂
@ I’ve got the blower and the blade, but once you go blower you blow only. Shulte knows how to build blowers, mine makes gravel into 100 mph projectiles 😜 and moves any snow from powder to slushy heavy wet. Maybe Schulte will loan you a blower in exchange for a video. Lord knows they need some new content!
@melindagreen3023 we live in flat saskatchewan lol, 95% of the time you don't need chains around here. The most I've done is put machine screws into the bobcat tires for traction. I've never put chains on our tractor or bobcat.

I would gladly push snow with that setup !!!
The snowmobilers will be grinning from ear to ear.👍🇨🇦
Yes we are. And the farther west you go from Mike's north farm the better the snow gets from that last storm.
Had 2of them blades on Massey tractors loved them

You're a beautiful strong lady. I wish I had your positive additude. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving. God bless you.
Good job Mike. If it was easy, everyone would be doing it.
Snow will give extra spring moisture. Tough to haul grain though.

The fendt could keep the air pressure up sitting idling beside the trailers if you had a t piece to run 2 lines or the 4 trailers at the same time

You should test if you're an apoe4 carrier. Sleep is important for brain health. Ask me how i know.
When ur brakes are stuck on with no load could u not fill the trailers with the chaser bin to get weight on them??

So what are the rules about Sleep/Rest and driving a Semi in Canada?
Is it more efficent to use the leased tractors for the augers instead of dedicated Motors?
Efficient? Maybe.. Cheaper? No!.. Enjoyable tho? Yes. 😆

Why don’t u build a shop up north to keep the trucks and the tractors in
Glad to see Canada is winning the battle against globe warming !
Its definitely a SK thing to exaggerate a snowfall/storm. lol 20" of snow but my differential isn't dragging.... Got to love the "we got 3ft drifts"
