Critter pulls some of the best tone I've ever heard. Josh is one of the most precise and ripping players ever (on pretty much all the instruments!). This DVD is meant to be just some good friends picking and having a good time. Relax y'all! It's just music! -Andy
These guys are all absolutely amazing. I love it. Chris Eldride's second solo is so clever. Glad to see bluegrass is alive and well in a younger generation.
12 yrs later, still stands the test of time. Got to see Mr. Josh last week. He is worth the ticket. Save your money to go see a musician Andy, Chris, Josh
I saw Josh last weekend with a band he put together, also at the Station Inn. It was awesome. Still, it's clear in this video that Josh's playing is by far the cleanest of the three. I can't wait until he gets his full-time band put together.
All three of these gentlemen are incredible players. Such precision, emotion, and just downright fascinating interpretations of the melody. I've had the pleasure of seeing both Chris and Andy play live with the Infamous Stringdusters over the past 2 years and it was just awesome. Keep it up guys - you are an inspiration to guitar players everywhere (including myself!)
I just now watched this, don’t know how I missed it. What incredible playing and great variations. I always knew this tune as Salt Creek, but you can definitely hear the influences of Doc and Tony Rice. As a longtime flatpicker, (I’m now 73) I love seeing the younger generation carry the torch! Molly Tuttle and Billy Strings are great examples… I can pick out a pretty good tune but no where am I even close to these incredible players!
Magnifique morceau avec trois super guitaristes. Josh williams, le plus classique, Andy falco et ses délires incroyables quitte à en mettre un peu à côté, Chris eldridge plus sophistiqué et technique. Un grand moment !
I had the honor of singing with Rhonda Vincent's Rage, with Josh playing and doing harmony with me and he is indeed INCREDIBLE. Great singer and unbelievable guitarist.
Wow, I love how original Eldridge's phrasing is. Williams is great as always, of course, but Critter's got that awesome ability to steer clear of cliches. Great stuff.
i love to hear these boys play. they sure tear up the ole Cherokee Shuffle. bluegrass guitar picking has come a long way since the 50's when it was unusual for the bluegrass guitar player to take a break. the new picker had the advantage of standing on the shoulders of the likes of clarence white and tony rice and they just keep getting better. if you don't believe me just listen to bryan sutton. he is absolutely great. it seem to me that many 12 yr old guitar pickers today exceed the picking ability of many older guitar pickers who's job it was to keep rhythm and sing. there were some good pickers in hillbilly music who took breaks but nothing like bluegrass guitar today. i love it.
Guitarmageddon - priceless You guys are all great. Great video -- what it's all about, man, getting together and jammin' on a little of the old Cherokee Shuffle -- great job.
All of these guys are amazing. I just saw Andy in concert, and he made me want to give up on trying to play the guitar. Still, when Chris Eldridge is on, he's one of the best ever.
Awesome picking! Josh has the best control, precision, and inventiveness. Andy has a great bluesy feel for bluegrass picking. Critter wins on personality and old-timey-ness. All three are virtuosos!
Dude, how you can analyze everybodie's style and personality in one 6 minute song is totally amazing! My God, you should be teaching at Steve Kaufman's camp.
7000518... why would you bring animosity to a comment section on a bluegrass video. The other two comments were merely asking each other questions and getting answers. You've definitely wowed us with your incredible music theory knowledge, and desire to be tough on a youtube comment board. Proud of you.
@bgguitarli .... andy, i think you are the most amazing flat picker ive ever heard. in this vid the hammer-on pop off at :45 i had to listen to 10 times just to make sure i wasnt dreaming
@bgguitarli ... andy, i think you are the most amazing flat picker ive ever heard. in this vid the hammer-on pop off at :45 i had to listen to 10 times just to make sure i wasnt dreaming
The song is traditionally played in A as it's a fiddle tune and many fiddle tunes are in A. The advantage of the capo is being able to play in a key like A or B and still have an open, full sound especially when going from lead to rhythm which would often necessitate full or partial Barre chords. It's not a speed thing but you pretty much hit the nail on the head with the second part of your comment.
***** It doesn't sound like you're correcting me, it sounds like you are putting me down for not being as cultured as you... You have no idea where I've been, and to imagine that you do based on a single sentence in a RUclips comment section is cool but you've obviously never been to the real world. Not correcting you, just pointing out a broader fact, whatever the hell that means...
Chris Thile is great at that. He always knows how to make his solos unique. Maybe it'll start to catch on with guitar players. He's definitely changing a lot in Bluegrass. Cody Kilby Always has good rhythm, he usually tries to mix it up so it's not constantly straight 16ths and his phrasing ends up being very unique.
Long Island has produced some gtreat players. Andy is from Garden City while rock legends Steve Vai and Joe Satriani are from Carle Place which is 3 miles away. I play and enjoy listening to southern rock but this video blew me away. I'd love to see these 3 sit in with the Allman Brothers!!
Wow! Some strong wrists here! some great hand and pick carry over, amazing timing etc. No wonder they are champions. But remember I am sure they paid their dues and put in their time to get this way do you think?
Station Inn looks like a Bomb Shelter from the outside.. In Nashville, go North on Broadway from I-40 turn your first right on whatever street that is, look for the Bomb Shelter about 5 blocks on the left.
Wow! Great players. These guys and Kenny Smith, Bryan Sutton and Steve Kaufman are my fav pickers. Bluegrass musicians are the best in the world. Thile, Steffey, Alison, Jerry Douglas, Ron Block, Huber, and on and on- what genre has more incredible players?
Emerson, it's so funny you should say that grassers are among the best. I've been reading more and more comments from people from completely different genres saying that bluegrass players are among the most technically proficient players anywhere. I think that's super cool.
I'm not that kind of Jazz guy. I should also say that I started playing mandolin when I was 9 and banjo when I was 15, so I'm quite a bluegrass guy as well and I love all the same guys you do. I didn't mean to say any musician is better, I was just try to raise awareness of great musicians in today's no talent pop music world. Seeing that you like great musicians, I just thought I would point out some others you might like from other styles. Thats all. Sorry if it came across any other way.
I agree. I can play this old fiddle tune but at about 80% of this speed. If you want to see some other guys who'll make you feel self-conscious on guitar, look up Steve Kaufman, Roy Curry, Cody Kilby, and David Grier on RUclips.

13 years ago! You lot must be middle aged, or thereabouts!
Looked fun.
Bless Andy wheres David Grier when you need him
Josh Williams is just incredible. He plays every instrument in a Bluegrass band.
These guys are all absolutely amazing. I love it. Chris Eldride's second solo is so clever. Glad to see bluegrass is alive and well in a younger generation.
One of my favorite songs. It always gets me grinning. These guys really do it justice.
Chris' guitar tone is smooth and enjoyable.
I love Chris' soloing, he has such an interesting approach and lots of different things to say with the guitar.
12 yrs later, still stands the test of time.
Got to see Mr. Josh last week. He is worth the ticket.
Save your money to go see a musician
Andy, Chris, Josh
Yep. I saw him for the first time last week.
Three wonderful flatpickers. Love Chris' freedom in the improvisation.
I saw Josh last weekend with a band he put together, also at the Station Inn. It was awesome. Still, it's clear in this video that Josh's playing is by far the cleanest of the three. I can't wait until he gets his full-time band put together.
Love seeing my little brother on RUclips...Go Josh!!!!
when is Josh going to become a giant star? He deserves to be. What a voice this guy has.

Parfaitement raison ! Un mélange pur de virtuosité, c'est pas pour rien que je trouve que le bluegrass est la plus magnifique chose sur cette planète
I had the honor of singing with Rhonda Vincent's Rage, with Josh playing and doing harmony with me and he is indeed INCREDIBLE. Great singer and unbelievable guitarist.
I just got to mix FOH for a big show they did at The Lincoln Jamboree a while back! Amazing group.
@@LasleyMediaGroup they are incredible for sure.
My head just blew up! I saw it..I heard it..Thank you!
Wow, I love how original Eldridge's phrasing is. Williams is great as always, of course, but Critter's got that awesome ability to steer clear of cliches. Great stuff.

There's some real picking right there. Fantastic.
Guitarmageddon - priceless
You guys are all great.
Great video -- what it's all about, man, getting together and jammin' on a little of the old Cherokee Shuffle -- great job.
Outstanding, just subbed
All of these guys are amazing. I just saw Andy in concert, and he made me want to give up on trying to play the guitar. Still, when Chris Eldridge is on, he's one of the best ever.
Chris is the man!
Peak performance.
This is seriously...just WOW!!!!
i dont think i will ever get tired of listening to this. awesome!
Yeah, it can all start to sound like a great big musical typewriter -- let some space in, pickers of the world. You guys are awesome.
Really appreciate😊
Awesome picking! Josh has the best control, precision, and inventiveness. Andy has a great bluesy feel for bluegrass picking. Critter wins on personality and old-timey-ness. All three are virtuosos!
They are all great. Josh is too darn cool.
Eldridge put put on the best show. Prove me wrong
I'm debating this Travis right now
Three of the best!! Without a doubt.
Great pickin, just love how different their styles are! All smooth and classy!
Outstanding!
Chris has the most soul even at this early stage. It’s soooo TR
I was thinking josh was more influenced by tony rice and traditional bluegrass, Andy more blues oriented
Doc and Clarence would have been proud!
guy sounds like nate herman, flat pickin his way to paradise, kentucky...w
Spettacolare! complimenti a tutti. Un saluto dall'Italia.
Great! Congratulations to all. Greetings from Italy.
Dude, how you can analyze everybodie's style and personality in one 6 minute song is totally amazing! My God, you should be teaching at Steve Kaufman's camp.
*If there is a Heaven this is the music I want to hear on arrival...................all things being equal.............*.
Absolute and plus beyond.
Amazing❤
How does anyone thumb this down? So good. Regardless of genre. Great talent.

A little of that goes a long way
He also stays the most in time and groove as well as preserving the melody
Master class.
The world was a dark place before bluegrass......
This tune is pre-bluegrass, so it must have been pretty alright.
Shane Brown And the world was a dark place before the internet. Now it's brightened by your corrections. :P

Woah baby!!!!! Oh yeah!!!
Great pickin'. Especially Critter.
incredible
all hail the forerunners of blugrass guitar (Clarence White, Doc, Tony, Jimmy Martin ext.) that started this style of playing
guitarmageddon is about right
Now I'm just gonna hang up my guitar back on the wall !
RAHAN G exactly!!
Exactly the opposite! All the more reason to play.
I threw mine on the burn pile
Wow! Inspiring
Insane!😃
Very Nice Indeed!

Josh Williams is one of the best guitar players In the bluegrass world.
That's some mighty fine pickin.
Omg! Chris eldridge is my name! :O
DAMN SONS GET R.DONE...THE BEST...
Tony Rice lives!!!
Wow, really 16 years ago....
Yeah--I believe in Florida:)
I am assuming there were 32 thumbs down by an accidental button press. This is music.
You can tell Williams like him some Tony Rice.
Love Chris Eldridge's creativity (his daddy is one hell of a banjo picker).
I'm not that kind of Jazz guy. I should also say that I started playing mandolin when I was 9 and banjo when I was 15, so I'm quite a bluegrass guy as well and I love all the same guys you do. Critters playing reminds me a bit of "DOCs" Is that a bone hes playing?
Great Stuff, GREAT PICKERS!
I'm confused, why is there 28 dislikes? These guys are fantastic. Not sure why 28 folk dislike this but.... lead on MacDuff
They play like machines...
@flatopguy in a rythem sence he was one of the best if not the best (pardon the spelling)
This doesn't sound like flat pickin', it sounds more like stickin' out pickin'! AAAAEEEEE!! t:)
I agree. I can play this old fiddle tune but at about 80% of this speed. If you want to see some other guys who'll make you feel self-conscious on guitar, look up Steve Kaufman, Roy Curry, Cody Kilby, and David Grier on RUclips.
1:52 He's been studying Tony Rice!
