The soundtrack for City of Tears is one of the most gorgeous, moving pieces of music I've ever heard in a video game, and during my first, precious blind playthrough of the game, hearing it swell into its full splendour as you come down that first long elevator shaft and out into the rain sent shivers through me. God, what I wouldn't do to forget everything about the game and experience it all over again.
The music and art direction for the City of Tears was easily the highlight of the game for me. Larkin is onboard for the sequel so we have that to look forward to at least.
I cannot agree with this comment any more than I am right now. That exact moment everything hit once you get off that elevator, I felt at ease and filled with wonder at the same time.

It isn't really neccessery, even for the "Ascencion" achievement - " A total of 2400 is needed for all in-game rewards and Achievements, though up to 3208 essence is available from exploration and bosses." Even then, You can get that 1 precious essence every once in a while from regular enemies.
I regretted dream nailing her once I realized she was the reason behind the vocals and only did it to her in my first play through. I have one play through where I didnt dream nail any ghosts besides the ones you fight. Hell, my third playthrough is when I finally let Zote die to get the Neglect achievement.. even though he's a douche lol

It's funny... The music, the rain, the whole setting... And even with the occasional "BRAVAAA" thrown your way, the enemy presence here is relatively scarce through most of the place. The City of Tears is probably the most tranquil area in the whole game.

I feel nostalgic for very weird reason/ I dont feel nostalgic about the game while listening to this tune. It feels like I heard something like this in my very childhood days at a certain event (that i vaguely remembers) and it is trying to take me back there.
I have finished the game today and when I hear this music I get nostalgic of the time I knew nothing about the game, I had just arrived in the City of Tears and my journey had only began

Violas* Hollow knight uses violins in only a few parts of its ost, but uses violas A LOT. Silksong however will have a strong emphasis on violins and harps
i remember the first time i entered this area, was screensharing to a friend on discord and the first thing i said was "wow i really like this music" here i am 6 months later, never knew how important this song would become for me
I was hooked to this game before I even played it myself. I love insects.. that and many other reasons are why it is my favorite game. The music, the art, the characters, the themes of death, loss, betrayal, The Hollow Knight's anguish, hit very close to home in a way other games haven't quite managed. I still have never beat the game. I don't want it to end. I may be one of the few people who could wait forever for Silksong, because I don't want to move on...
This is such a powerful scene, to see the Knight, looking at the Hollow Knight, one flawed Vessel and it's successor, the one who will achieve what is written for the HK, making his sacrifice worthwile, and indeed, Hallownest eternal.
The City of Tears theme is without a doubt my favorite song, and this edit is my favorite version. There's just something about it that always puts me at ease, and sometimes if I'm feeling depressed or anxious I will turn this song on and it never fails to help calm me down. My first blind appearance in city of tears was from deepnest. I fell down from fungal wastes and couldn't find a way out. After few hours of several phobias kicking in and pushing through the gross deepnest, i killed the boss and got the tram pass. I got to the ancient basin and somehow got up to the city. Hearing this song and rain i felt relived. I overcame my fears of these nasty bugs and spiders and got to the famous city of tears. My dumass thought you couldn't get in from the fungal wastes so i got to the city really late. I got through crystal cave, ancient basin and deepnest with unupgraded nail. I think i'm in the minority of the players, because i dont think many people got through the majority of the game before the city :d. Still, this piece of art is too good. I love this song
